Scorpio (Quingqie, Scorpion) (remove venomous powder, stir-fry, 1 fen) Arisaema Cum Bile (Tian Nan Xing, Rhizoma Arisaematis Preparatum) (1 liang, grind into powder, mix with water to make a paste, wrap the scorpion, bake until reddish-brown; the scorpion need not be stir-fried again) Gastrodia Elata (Tian Ma, Rhizoma Gastrodiae) (1 fen) Cinnabar (Zhu Sha, Cinabris) (1 fen, must be ground) Calomelas (Qing Fen, Hydrargyri Chloridum Mite) (0.5 fen weight) Borneol (Nao Zi, Borneolum Syntheticum) (1 zi) Moschus (She, Moschus) (1 zi)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder and mix evenly. Take 0.5 fen per dose, mixed with decoction of Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, Flos Lonicerae Japonicae) and Mint (Bohe, Herba Menthae), administered until bowel movement is unobstructed.
Treating infantile acute convulsion (Ji Jing Feng, Acute Convulsive Disorder) with excessive phlegm-saliva, aiming to remove phlegm and reduce fever via purgation:
Crotonis Fructus Extract (Ba Shuang, Semen Crotonis Extractum) (0.5 liang) Indigo Naturalis (Qing Dai, Indigo Naturalis) (1 fen) Arisaema Cum Bile (Tian Nan Xing, Rhizoma Arisaematis Preparatum) (0.5 liang, processed) Calomelas (Qing Fen, Hydrargyri Chloridum Mite) (1 liang weight) Talcum (Hua Shi, Talcum) (2 liang weight) Scorpio (Quingqie, Scorpion) (or for external use, remove venom and stir-fry)
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, boil wheat flour paste in water to form pills, size similar to sesame seeds. Five pills per year of age, seven pills for two years old, ten pills for three years old, adjusted according to age. Administer with clear tea brewed from Mint (Bohe, Herba Menthae), until bowel movement is unobstructed.
Discussion states: When observing pediatric symptoms, regardless of age, one must observe visually, palpate with fingers, investigate mentally, and ensure intent is precise, weighing medicines like a scale and diagnosing disease severity like a mirror. This is termed "careful consideration for appropriate treatment," which adheres to proper methods.
When medicine enters the stomach and intestles, fitting perfectly like tally tokens, this is superior. After diagnosis, pondering methods, thinking and managing for a long time before reaching the source, using doctors to administer medicine, this is secondary. Not comprehending the overall efficacy, why is treatment considered difficult? It is not an anomaly among the four diseases, but rather that the ultimate outcome is not as described. Currently discussing convulsive disorders, there are acute and chronic types. Vulgar opinion considers rapid convulsions as acute and slow convulsions as chronic, which is inappropriate. Ancient discussions on Yin-Yang epilepsy are correct. Yang epilepsy is called acute convulsion (Ji Jing Feng, Acute Convulsive Disorder); Yin epilepsy is called chronic convulsion (Man Jing Feng, Chronic Convulsive Disorder). Symptoms of Yang epilepsy include red cheeks, hot body, red lips, rapid pulse, locked jaw, and drooling. Symptoms of Yin epilepsy include vomiting, diarrhea, fever generating wind, absence of Yang symptoms, only convulsions and spasms, ultimately with a scattered and slow pulse, indicating a Yin condition, beyond doubt.
If Yang syndrome transmits to Yin, with Yin excess and Yang deficiency, when Yin syndrome manifests, rapidly support the interior. In cases of acute convulsion where Yang is excess and Yin is deficient, with robust Yin qi, purgation should be used.
To balance Yin and Yang Qi, harmonize Ying and Wei pulses, it is appropriate to use the aforementioned formulas. For mild cases, use Jie Feng Tang (Revealing Wind Decoction); for severe cases, use Jie Feng Fang (Seizing Wind Formula); for heavy cases, use Qing Jin Wan (Blue Gold Pill) or Zhen Zhu Wan (Pearl Pill). Please review carefully, inspect severity precisely, determine decoction dosage appropriately, surpassing excellent prescriptions, do not deviate. If negligent or delayed, harm increases, disaster arises. The physician's primary duty is observation, do not cause fault.
