Discussion states: Water may be shallow and dried up, yet it can be managed; mountains may collapse and lie barren, yet they can be reclaimed; land may tilt and sink, yet it can be reinforced; objects may have additions or subtractions, yet they can be cherished; medicines have their high and low prices, and people have their noble and humble statuses. One must hold the supreme principle in mind, investigate thoroughly without losing one's way. However, because infants and children suffer from different diseases, with transmission manifesting as atypical symptoms, and because their innate Qi endowment and physical constitution vary in thickness and thinness, their roots are not solid, their bodies are not fully formed, their Qi is not abundant, and their spirit is not tranquil. The noble tend to be arrogant and indulgent, which is acquired during the embryonic stage; the laborious tend to be overworked, which is invited during gestation. Generally, children receive Qi that is not substantial; some are overly sheltered, exceeding the full term of pregnancy, while others are neglected in care. Influenced by the interplay of rigid and soft energies, they resemble a state of holding emptiness and fullness. From the perspective of generation, there should be distinctions; even if artificial, there is no violation of principles. Examining the noble and the humble, each understands their root; observing the old and the young, all follow their respective logic. In treating pediatric patients, one cannot apply a single uniform approach, nor use the common view for adults to explain the administration of medicine. "Administration of medicine" refers to methods such as using simple preparations (simple), long-refined preparations (purely hot natured), deeply researched preparations (essence), post-administration benefits, or pre-administration superiority. A skilled physician applies utmost care, which is called the specialization of medicine administration. If heavy doses are given to weaned infants, or harsh medicines are given to the noble (harsh refers to strict regulatory drugs), it is absolutely inadmissible to confuse these categories and act hastily. For conditions requiring unblocking and promoting flow, one must carefully inquire and support before administering; for conditions requiring tonification, one must examine and adjust meticulously. Who would say there is arbitrary recklessness? The conditions where attack is contraindicated include deficiency, infancy, delicacy, and severe illness, which should not be冒犯 (offended/violated) causing harm. Conditions unsuitable for冒犯 include chronic illness, indeterminate causes (not clearly stated), polypharmacy (numerous medications used), and competitive aggression. Additionally, consider the mother's biased emotions (stubbornness), the father's impatient temperament (foolishness), the child's stubborn will (refusal to take medicine), the difficult prognosis of the disease (transmission to adverse syndromes), the mother's superstition, and the father's exorcism rituals. Under such human circumstances, how can one force treatment and waste effort in vain investigation? Not only will it be unhelpful, but it also lacks reflection. Observe whether the patient's family is compliant in attitude and respectful in etiquette; attribute success to one's own actions, acting upon prior experience. Thus, trust in the physician leads to recovery; heavy medicines lead to cure. Using decoctions effectively becomes a good prescription, truly relying on mutual non-negligence between doctor and patient.
