After the acute convulsion syndrome (Ji Jing Feng), the condition transmits to resemble malaria; this is due to external contraction of wind pathogen and deficiency of Qi. A mild release of the exterior should be performed first, followed by harmonizing the Spleen and Stomach, so that the alternating chills and fever will naturally resolve.
When Yin is excessive and Yang is deficient, the disease has progressed deeply. After vomiting and diarrhea, the child sleeps with eyes rolling upward. With unconsciousness, slow convulsions, and profuse salivation, this syndrome is clearly identified as chronic convulsion syndrome (Man Jing Feng).
Although convulsive disorders are divided into acute and chronic convulsions, they also arise from Qi stagnation leading to lethargy. To treat effectively, a skilled physician should soothe and regulate the Qi; when the Qi flows smoothly, the convulsions will cease spontaneously.
Various wind pathogens combined with heat hide in the skin, coagulating and resisting sudden removal. If the neck and cheeks swell, the throat and tongue must be protected. Internally, wind-heat should be purged, and externally, topical applications are suitable.
Falls or blows cause skin damage, allowing external wind to invade the wounds. Swelling occurs readily with slight pain; promoting blood circulation and dispersing wind are the key therapeutic principles.
Headache, body heat, slight abdominal distension, cold feet, unconsciousness, and a preference for sleep indicate injury from food retention weakening the Spleen Qi. The purgative method should be applied cautiously and slowly, while releasing the exterior should be prioritized.
Unscheduled passage of green stool, whimpering upon seeing people as if angry, requires formulas to relieve convulsions and eliminate accumulation. This can immediately restore vitality and ensure peaceful rest.
Various febrile conditions have different initial causes. Fevers occurring at specific times are termed tidal fever (Chao Re). Fevers that come and go abruptly indicate deficiency syndromes. Evening-onset fever without chills belongs to bone-steaming consumption (Gu Zheng).
Spleen deficiency and Stomach weakness are the root of the disease; how can water and grain be transported and transformed? Interference between clear and turbid Qi leads to vomiting and diarrhea. Prolonged transmission results in deficiency-thirst and internal wind (Bian Feng).
The manifestations of Cold Damage (Shang Han) are manifold, making comprehensive analysis difficult. Redness of the face and eyes, frequent sneezing, coarse breathing, and body heat characterize Cold Damage.
Aversion to wind, fever, headache, slightly red cheeks, and abundant nasal discharge, accompanied by generalized sweating and coughing, constitute Wind Injury (Shang Feng), which is easy to harmonize.
Slight body heat with irritability, restless sleep, and unclear spirit indicate Cold Damage complicated by Convulsion (Jia Jing Gan Han). Treatment must first release the exterior, then calm the Heart.
Nasal discharge, headache, frequent regurgitation, and variable facial coloration (yellow, red, white) indicate Cold Damage complicated by Food Retention. Only after the efficacy of releasing the exterior is achieved should accumulation be purged.
If the exterior is not fully released and one hastily promotes unblocking, subsequent wheezing and Qi attack may occur. This indicates weak Yang and deficient Yin, with the Lung Meridian suffering secondary invasion by wind pathogen.
Children suffering from Cold Damage complicated by Wind often present with excessive eye discharge and tearing, reddened cheeks, cold sweat on the Taiyang region, slight wheezing, and saliva dripping onto the chest.
When both Wind and Cold strike simultaneously, sweating is difficult to achieve. Heavy use of Xionghuang San (Realgar Powder) is effective. Once sweating occurs, treatment remains viable; do not allow the absence of sweat to progress to opisthotonos (Zhang Gong).
