(The original childbirth diagram is not recorded here; this also belongs to the method of Zhuyou [incantation therapy].)
*Daquan* states: Whenever pregnancy reaches the month of delivery, one should calm the mind and stabilize thoughts, walk frequently, and avoid excessive sleep, overeating, drinking too much wine, or taking miscellaneous medicines. One should first paste the childbirth diagram, arrange the bed curtains strictly according to the position, and beforehand invite an experienced midwife, preparing decoctions, medicines, and utensils. When labor is imminent, there must be no noise from many people causing panic; instead, two elderly women should support her walking and help her stand leaning on objects. If amniotic fluid appears and waist/abdominal pain is severe, this indicates the fetus is shifting its meridian position. Let the mother lie supine to facilitate fetal turning. Only when the fetal head faces the birth canal can medication for induction be used (induction medicine must never be administered too early; if the fetus has not yet turned, the primary approach should be nourishing blood, assisted by regulating Qi). If there is mental restlessness, mix one spoonful of white honey with water and take it. If hungry, eat a small amount of millet porridge. Do not let the mother suffer from hunger or thirst, as this may deplete strength. Do not forcibly administer induction medicine or rush into the birthing posture; caution is essential.
Xue states: When labor is about to begin, upon feeling movement inside the abdomen, one should straighten the body and lie supine. Wait until the fetus turns downward and pain begins. Test by pinching the middle phalanx of the mother's middle finger (the middle finger belongs to the Pericardium Meridian); if there is throbbing at this joint, it signifies impending delivery. If one does not lie supine initially to wait for fetal rotation, or if amniotic fluid flows frequently before delivery, this indicates the membranes have ruptured and blood/fluid have dried up first, inevitably leading to malpresentation and difficult labor. If the membranes rupture but delivery does not occur, use *Baosheng Wuyou San* [Guaranteed Safety and Peace Powder] to consolidate the blood (the concept of consolidating blood warrants careful study), which will naturally lead to safe delivery. If blood has already been depleted, use one jin [approx. 500g] of *Bazhen Tang* [Eight Treasures Decoction] ingredients and half a jin of *Yimucao* [Leonurus japonicus Herb], decoct in dozens of bowls of water until ready, and drink intermittently; some cases have resulted in survival. Generally, if a pregnant woman only experiences abdominal pain, she has not yet delivered; if severe lower back pain accompanies it, delivery is imminent. This is because the Kidney manifests in the waist, and the uterus is connected to the Kidney. Pregnant families should beforehand invite a midwife who is benevolent and knowledgeable. One should win her heart with kindness and inform her in advance: if delivery is complicated, claim it is not yet time; if twins are present, claim the placenta has not yet descended. Fear causes Qi to scatter, making delivery more difficult. My family has verified this personally. Generally, difficult labors often occur in wealthy households characterized by depression and comfort. Although treatment principles state "clear heat/Qi during pregnancy and tonify blood postpartum," one must not rigidly adhere to this. If Spleen/Stomach deficiency leads to insufficient Qi and Blood, preventive regulation and tonification are necessary; otherwise, difficulties will inevitably arise during delivery.
