The frequent changes of warm-heat diseases (Wenbing, 温病) and the resulting confusion of their true nature stem from the deviation in the transmission of cold-injury diseases (Shanghan, 伤寒). For wind-cold diseases that enter the Yangming channel (Yangming Jing, 阳明经) from the Taiyang channel (Taiyang Jing, 太阳经), there is the *Treatise on Cold Damage* (*Shanghan Lun*, 《伤寒论》) which provides distinct explanations for each.
However, regarding warm-heat diseases, people casually assume that Zhang Zhongjing did not mention them, thereby feeling free to propose their own views. They often first transfer warm-heat diseases into other channels or reclassify them as different syndromes, much like a game of chess, where no two cases are exactly alike. For instance: Yu Jiayan transferred the disease to the Shaoyin Kidney channel; Zhou Yuzai transferred it to the Shaoyang Gallbladder channel; Shu Chiyuan transferred it to the Taiyin Spleen channel; Gu Jingwen transferred it to the Taiyin Lung channel; [someone] transferred it to the Jueyin Pericardium channel; Qin Huangshi transferred it to the Southern region; Wu Jutong transferred it to the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner); Chen Suzhong and Yang Lishan transferred it to "miscellaneous qi" (Zaqi, 杂气); Zhang Xugu and Wang Mengying transferred it to "external contraction" (Waigan, 外感); even more severely, Zhang Jiebin, Zhang Shiweng, and Dai Tianzhang all transferred it to "plague" (Wenyi, 瘟疫); and Zhang Shiweng further transferred it to "cold-clamping" (Jia Yin, 夹阴). These arguments are eloquent and seem to have their own logic, yet they fail to realize that the Yangming channel is the source of warm-heat formation, a view consistent throughout history, with treatment always relying on the Yangming formulas from the *Treatise on Cold Damage*. It is precisely because these individuals wish to abolish the use of Yangming formulas that they must first remove Yangming disease from the concept of the Yangming channel. This is not my intentional criticism; if this were not the case, why would those who pull arguments from left and right discard the established methods passed down through millennia? Yu Mo said, "Great faults committed unintentionally may be pardoned; small faults committed intentionally cannot be excused." Transferring the disease location out of ignorance is unintentional error, which is pardonable; transferring it knowingly is intentional misconduct, which is unforgivable. Peering into their hidden motives, it seems this goes beyond mere clarity or obscurity. Future authors may devise other methods of transference, ultimately aiming to make the world forget Zhang Zhongjing, so that people might prefer their convenient approaches and novel theories. These are all attempts to move warm-heat diseases away from Yangming. Furthermore, there are those who know the disease is in Yangming but insist that *Shanghan* formulas cannot be used, instead creating new prescriptions with only one or two herbs, claiming these were unknown to Zhang Zhongjing. In reality, apart from these one or two herbs, they still rely on Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), and Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) from the *Treatise on Cold Damage*. One need only ask what herbs Huang Kunzai and Yang Lishan used besides Qing Ping (likely referring to a specific herb or typo in original context, kept as Qingping), Can (Silkworm), and Chan (Cicada) to see this. This constitutes secretly appropriating *Shanghan* formulas while openly denouncing the *Treatise on Cold Damage*, a method of "transferring by not transferring." I hope scholars dedicated to this path do not be misled by this "method of transference," nor believe that Zhang Zhongjing's works apply only to cold syndromes, leading them to doubt that *Shanghan* formulas can truly treat warm-heat diseases. Such an outcome would be a blessing for our medical tradition and for patients alike.
