Shuihonghuazi (Polygoni Orientalis Fructus), bitter in taste, neutral in nature, cold in property. It breaks blood stasis. It treats pediatric abdominal masses and accumulations, resolves all long-standing hard accumulations, and treats uterine fibroids (stone leiomyoma) in women.
Hongcao (Polygonum Hydropiper Herb), salty in taste, neutral in nature. Non-toxic. It primarily treats polydipsia, clears heat, disperses qi stagnation, resolves accumulations, and relieves pain; it is most effective for resolving abdominal masses (Note: Hongcao is Polygonum hydropiper).
── Volume 8
Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix), commonly known as Dayao. Pungent and slightly bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature. Slightly toxic. It promotes urination, reduces edema, and attacks carbuncles and sores. There are red and white varieties; the white one can be used medicinally, while the red one is not used internally; however, it can be ground into powder, mixed with hot wine, and rubbed on bruised areas from falls or injuries, yielding miraculous effects, especially when combined with plaster application.
── Volume 3
Hongcaitou (Beta vulgaris var. cicla), also known as Niupicai. Sweet in taste, neutral in nature. Enters the Yangming channel. It treats cold phlegm in the middle jiao and food stagnation in the chest. It should not be consumed in excess, as it may induce stomach disorders, generate phlegm, and move through the meridians. Patients suffering from certain conditions should avoid it as it may trigger disease.
Huitiao Yinfencai (Chenopodium album?), also known as Huitiao Ye or Huigeng Cao. Grows in watery places, with green leaves and fine seeds, covered with a silvery frost on the leaves. Pungent in taste. Harvested to treat various hemorrhoids, fistulas, and ulcers. Decoction for external washing yields miraculous results. It is also good for treating leprosy-like skin diseases. Consumed as a vegetable, it prevents dysphagia and regurgitation. Decoction taken internally treats red eyes with swelling and pain; washing the eyes removes wind-heat.
Bocai (Spinacia oleracea), also known as Honggencai. Sweet and slightly pungent in taste, warm in nature. Enters the Spleen and Lung channels. Dispels wind, brightens the eyes, opens orifices, but damages the intestines and stomach, resolves alcohol intoxication, and promotes blood circulation.
── Lower Volume
Tuniuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), sour in taste. Treats carbuncles and sores; crush and apply to the affected area. It can also induce abortion. Simmered with pork, it brightens the eyes.
── Volume 1
Hongniuxi (Cyathulae Radix), also known as Xiangniuxi, Duniuuxi, Jituncao, or Jitunxi. Sour and pungent in taste, slightly cold in nature. Yin in attribute, descending in action. Enters the Liver and Spleen channels, circulates through the twelve meridians, moves blood, breaks blood stasis and blood masses, and cools blood heat. It treats menstrual irregularities in women. For symptoms of aversion to cold, fear of cold, fever, abdominal pain, and distension in the chest and hypochondrium; abnormal uterine bleeding, hematemesis, epistaxis, and hemoptysis caused by yin deficiency with hyperactive fire forcing blood to move recklessly, treatment should focus on nourishing yin and descending fire.

Formula: Hongniuxi, any amount. Decoct in water, take with water wine.
(Note) Hongniuxi is an effective formula for consumptive fever syndrome. Use a heavy dose of Hongniuxi to clear deficient heat. After taking it, the body becomes cool. If fever returns after one or two days, or seven or eight days later, these are critical and difficult-to-treat conditions.
Pain, slight fever, dry mouth with thirst, dry tongue, slight abdominal pain, passing one or two drops of fresh blood during urination. Seeking medical treatment, one was treated for metrorrhagia, another for leukorrhea with blood, both ineffective. Then Hongniuxi formula was used. After three doses, fever subsided, a small piece of dried purple blood was passed, and recovery ensued.
Foot symptoms. Women who have "burned menstrual blood" suffer from irregular menstruation. Qi moves blood, blood moistens. When qi moves, blood moves; when qi rebels, blood rebels. During menstruation, anger and jealousy cause qi rebellion, leading to blood rebellion. Long-term rebellion burns menstrual blood. Anger injures the Liver, which is the sea of blood and governs storing blood. The Chong and Ren vessels are linked to the Kidney and Liver. Injury to Chong and Ren causes Liver blood to lose control, qi becomes excessive and rebels, drying up the sea of blood and causing stagnation. Symptoms appear before menstruation, three or five days prior, resembling wind-cold: headache, body fatigue, aversion to cold, fever, irritability and thirst, intermittent pain in lower back, legs, chest, and diaphragm, breast swelling, urgency and distension in waist, hypochondrium, and lower abdomen, fever lasting three to four days. Then menstruation arrives, pale yellow or purple-black in color, flow is very sluggish or scattered, lasting eight to nine days. After stopping, dizziness, palpitations, tinnitus, spontaneous sweating, five-palm heat, limb soreness, low spirit, loss of appetite, recovering only after seven to eight days. Next stage: menstruation delayed, occurring every thirty-five or forty days, intervals gradually increasing, condition worsening. Another case: amenorrhea, afternoon aversion to cold, resembling malaria, night-time irritability and fever, reduced appetite, consumption cough, abdominal masses left or right, attacking heart region causing pain, hand numbness, foot swelling, gradually becoming critical. Another case: amenorrhea at age thirty or forty, becoming fatal. Women rely on blood as their essence; if blood is blocked, there is no generation and transformation; without smooth blood circulation, it cannot nourish the whole body.
