The classic texts state that excessive Yin leads to Dian disease (epilepsy-like disorder characterized by mental dullness), where patients often exhibit excessive laughter, appearing dazed or stupid, sometimes laughing and sometimes weeping. This is caused by unfulfilled desires or plans. One should moxa the Shenzhu (DU12) acupoint once.
Shenzhu (DU12) (See Cough).
Xian syndrome (epileptic seizure) is characterized by sudden collapse with loss of consciousness, clouded spirit, locked jaw, opisthotonos (arching of the back), convulsions, and salivation. The ancients divided Xian into five types, described as horse neighing, sheep bleating, cow bellowing, dog barking, and pig squealing. Ultimately, these belong to phlegm-saliva accumulating in the meridians. Moxa practitioners need not distinguish them in detail; at the onset of an attack, first moxa the Baihui (DU20) acupoint, and concurrently moxa the Shangwan (CV13) acupoint. Moxa at every attack, and it will gradually heal on its own.
Baihui (DU20) (See Stroke).
Shangwan (CV13) (See Labor Injury).
Lai disease (leprosy), also known as Li Feng (leprosy), is commonly called "Big Leprosy." It arises primarily because excess dampness generates wind, and excess wind generates parasites/vermin, causing skin shedding, muscles becoming swollen and purplish, whole-body itching, and sensations resembling insects crawling under the skin. It is suitable to moxa the Quchi (LI11) acupoint for a cure.
Quchi (LI11) (See Hemiplegia).
Red spots appearing on the muscle, resembling mosquito bites, are classified as Re Zhen (heat rash); fine granules that penetrate and appear are Feng Zhen (wind rash); those that do not emerge are Yin Zhen (hidden rash). Yin Zhen is suitable for moxing Quchi (LI11); Feng Zhen and Re Zhen are suitable for Hegu (LI4) and Huantiao (GB30).
Quchi (LI11) (See Hemiplegia).
Hegu (LI4) (See Hemiplegia).
Huantiao (GB30) (See Stroke).
Tan (phlegm) belongs to dampness and is transformed from Jin Ye (body fluids). When flowing, it is Jin; when moving, it is Ye; when gathering, it is Tan; when rising, it is Xian (saliva). In fact, most diseases involve Tan. Moxa the Shangwan (CV13) acupoint, and the Tan will naturally transform.
Shangwan (CV13) (See Labor Injury).
The Stomach governs reception, and the Spleen governs digestion and transportation. One receives, one transforms, and the operation continues without ceasing. If the Spleen and Stomach are weak, they lose the power of digestion and reception. If there is no desire to eat, moxa the Shangwan (CV13) acupoint. If food intake decreases, moxa the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint. If food is not digested, moxa the Xiawan (CV10) acupoint, or moxa the Tianshu (ST25) acupoint. If food cannot go down and there is a desire to retch, it is suitable to moxa the Danshu (BL19) acupoint.
Shangwan (CV13) (See Labor Injury).
Zhongwan (CV12) (See Asthma).
Xiawan (CV10) (See Distension).
Tianshu (ST25) (See Labor Injury).
Danshu (BL19) (See Labor Injury).
