Shenxiong Wan (Divine Xiong Pill) treats severe internal damp-heat causing red and swollen eyes, or yellowing of the sclera.
The formula is recorded in the "Fire Gate" chapter.
Note: This consists of herbs for the Foot-Yangming and Foot-Jueyin meridians.
Dongyuan Longdan Yinzi (East Slope Gentian Decoction) treats liver eye conditions with pus discharge and generation of pannus (gan yi), caused by damp-heat.
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, stir-fried), Qinggefen (Concha Meretricis et Cyclinae), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Caolongdan (Gentianae Radix, each 3 qian); Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 1.5 qian); Shetui (Ophioglossi Exuvies); Gujingcao (Evodiae Fructus? *Note: Standard is usually Jingtiancai or similar, but text says Gujingcao*); Chuan Yujin (Curcumae Radix); Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, each 0.5 qian); Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 2 qian).
Grind all into fine powder. Take 2 qian after meals, mixed with tea.
Note: This consists of herbs for the Foot-Taiyang, Foot-Yangming, Hand-Taiyin, and Foot-Taiyin meridians. The above six formulas should be adjusted in dosage according to the severity of exterior or interior patterns; they should not be used indiscriminately.
Jufang Mingmu Dihuang Wan (Standard Formulary Brightening Eye Rehmannia Pill) treats men and women with deficiency of both Liver and Kidney, where wind-pathogens take advantage of the weakness, and heat qi attacks upward, causing cataracts/pannus obscuring vision, dry eyes, and excessive tearing.
Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, wine-soaked, 3 liang); Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis); Zhike (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, stir-fried); Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, peeled and stir-fried); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, each 4 liang); Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, each 1 jin).
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of wu zi (wu berry). Take 30 pills before meals, washed down with salt water.
Note: This follows the Taiyang example and also involves qi-regulating herbs.
Jianyi Jiajian Zhujing Wan (Simple Modified Staying Scenery Pill) treats dimness of both eyes and unclear vision due to Qi deficiency of the Liver and Kidney.
Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, stir-fried, 2 liang); Shu Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, each 5 liang); Chushizi (Broussonetiae Fructus); Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, stir-fried, each 1 liang); Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus); Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus, each 2 liang); Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen, wine-processed, half jin).
Grind into powder, mix with honey to make pills the size of wu zi. Take 30 pills before meals, washed down with warm wine.
Careful Note: The Liver contains Ministerial Fire which is drained rather than supplemented. Moreover, when Yin-water is deficient and Yang-fire is excess, many suffer from eye diseases. Therefore, these two formulas are likely intended to tonify Liver Yin deficiency, which is quite reasonable, so they are included.
Dizhi Wan (Dizhi Pill) treats inability to see far while being able to see near, or even difficulty seeing near.
Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, baked dry); Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix, heart removed, each 4 liang); Zhike (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, stir-fried, 2 liang); Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos, 2 liang).

Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix); Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex); Zhike (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, stir-fried); Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma); Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, stir-fried); Xuanjinhua (Inulae Flos); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra); Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix); Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos); Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried); Tiantingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii Semen, stir-fried, each 1 liang).
Cut into pieces. For every half liang, add 3 slices of ginger and decoct.
Note: This is also a formula for treating wind-heat, following the Taiyang example.
