A man suffered from bitter taste in the mouth and tinnitus in winter, with dampness and itching of the scrotum. In spring, purple patches appeared on his face, slightly swollen and numb. By winter, his whole body turned purple, losing sensation of pain and itch. Initially, two doses of Zaizao San (Reconstruction Powder) were administered to expel toxic filth. Subsequently, Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) combined with Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction), plus Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), and Zao Jiao Ci (Gleditsiae Spina), gradually improved the condition. Later, Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) was used, but the whole body remained slightly red, indicating Blood deficiency with Fire. Due to poverty, proper regulation was not possible. Fever occurred in autumn, and by spring, facial patches recurred. Using the previous formula along with Blood-nourishing herbs, he recovered, fortunately being young and careful with his health.
Another patient, accustomed to rich food, suffered from nasal destruction, loss of eyebrows, finger detachment, and body ulcers. Heat and thirst were severe at dusk (Bushi). Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) was added with wine-fried black Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), and Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix). However, loose stools indicated Qi deficiency with prevailing seasonal heat; Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) brought rapid relief. He then took Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) concurrently for two months, and Sheng Mai San (Generate the Pulse Powder) as tea substitute, leading to slight regression of sores. In mid-autumn, dizziness, poor appetite, spontaneous sweating, heavy body, and frequent loose stools appeared, attributed to seasonal dampness. Qing Zao Tang (Clear Dryness Decoction) regulated the condition successfully. Afterwards, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with small amounts of wine-fried black Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Zao Jiao Ci (Gleditsiae Spina), and Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) cured him after over two months. Later, due to fatigue, he experienced deafness, heat, and thirst. Mistakenly taking wind-dispelling herbs aggravated the disease, causing red rashes all over. Yi Qi Cong Ming Tang (Augment Qi and Brighten the Eyes Decoction) cured him in about a month.
A man presented with red, painful, hot, and thirsty sores with dripping pus, vexation, palm heat, blurred vision, slurred speech, and palpitations. This was a Heart Meridian syndrome. An Shen Wan (Calming the Spirit Pill) combined with Hu Ma Yin (Sesame Drink) and Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) cured him, followed by Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) for complete recovery.
Another man had visible blue veins on the abdomen, purple blisters on the face, fever, thirst worsening during Yin-Mao hours (3-7 AM), wiry and rapid pulse, leg cramps, and astringent urination. This was a Liver Meridian Fire syndrome. Long Dan Xie Gan Tang (Gentian Decoction to Drain the Liver) cleared Liver fire, nourished Qi and Blood, followed by Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) to remove internal toxins. Over a year later, due to labor and improper diet, chills, fever, headache, and widespread red rashes occurred. He died after self-administering Zui Xian San (Intoxicating Immortal Powder).
A man had purple nodules on the face with dripping pus, convulsions during sleep, generalized numbness, and gradually appearing red patches that itched upon fatigue or anger. The Liver pulse was surging and large. Scarification (Bian) was used, along with previous pills, yielding slight improvement. Then, Bao Jian Huanji San (Mirror-like Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder, approx. one jin) was taken, along with Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) combined with Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) plus Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), and Jiao Ci (Spina Gleditsiae) for over a hundred doses, plus Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), curing him in half a year. Later, fatigue caused generalized numbness and itching with a faint, slow pulse, indicating Qi and Blood deficiency failing to nourish the Cou Li (skin and interstices). Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Great Tonifying Decoction) with Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) and Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) regulated the condition for over a year until stable.
A man had a red face with purple blisters, lower body itching and pain, afternoon fever, and dry, dark stool. This was excessive Fire with Blood deficiency. Zaizao San (Reconstruction Powder) and Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) plus Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), and Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus) were used. Subsequently, Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) without Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix) and Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), with small amounts of Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), plus Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) and Bi Xie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma) for over fifty doses, reduced the sores. Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) gradually replenished Qi and Blood. During mid-autumn rains, generalized soreness and pain occurred, treated with Qing Zao Tang (Clear Dryness Decoction). Finally, Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder), Hu Ma San (Sesame Powder), and Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) taken concurrently cured him.
A student (Shang She) had facial swelling, skin like tinea, later turning into purple nodules that wept when scratched. This was a Spleen and Lung syndrome. Qing Wei Tang (Clear Stomach Decoction) was first used to clear Stomach heat. Scarification at wrists, ankles, finger webs, and lesions expelled toxic blood and unblocked meridians. Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) plus Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Zao Jiao Ci (Gleditsiae Spina), Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Quan Xie (Scorpio), and Er Sheng San (Two Sages Powder) were taken concurrently for over a month to nourish Yin Blood and treat toxin sores. Bu Qi Xie Rong Tang (Augment Qi and Reduce Ying Decoction) provided slight improvement. Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) led to full recovery. Later, fatigue caused red halos, worse at dusk. Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) plus Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), and Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus), along with Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), prevented recurrence despite labor for over a year.
A man had generalized tinea-like itching turning into sores, purple and numb, painful when pinched, with frequent scanty urination. This was a Spleen and Stomach syndrome with pathogenic factors mostly on the exterior and deficiency. Large doses of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Ji Li (Tribuli Fructus), and Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) for several doses instantly restored Yuan Qi (Original Qi). Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) plus Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Ji Li (Tribuli Fructus), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Ruan Chai Hu (Soft Bupleuri Radix), and Er Sheng San (Two Sages Powder) gradually healed the sores. Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) and Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) regulated the condition for half a year until cure. Relapse occurred later; mistaken use of purgative and detoxifying herbs led to death from Liang Gan Shang Han (Double-Contracted Cold Damage).
A man had generalized nodules, itchy when scratched, painful when pinched, with constipation and thirst. This indicated internal pathogens. Zaizao San (Reconstruction Powder) for two doses and mild purgation three times, followed by Er Sheng San (Two Sages Powder), instantly healed the sores. Major tonification for over a year restored health. Later, copious phlegm-saliva, stiff tongue, and slurred speech occurred. Er Chen Tang (Two Aged Decoction) plus Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) for four doses cured him, followed by Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) for regulation.
A man, living ascetically, lost all eyebrows. The disease was in the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Scarification at arms, legs, wrists, and lesions expelled black blood. Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) plus [missing text] was taken on an empty stomach.
A scholar had itchy/painful or numb/swollen soles. After two years, generalized itching developed into nodules, fever, and tinnitus, worsening at dusk. [Missing text] to tonify Kidney. Huanji San (Muscle-Rejuvenating Powder) and Qu Feng Wan (Wind-Dispelling Pill), each one jin, gradually healed sores. Recovery was achieved through tonification and adherence to dietary/lifestyle restrictions.
A student suffered generalized disease with emaciation. I advised tonification to restore Yuan Qi (Original Qi) before treating sores. Disbelieving, he strictly drank Snake Wine to attack pathogens internally. [Missing text] resulting from poison damaging the Spleen. Taking detoxifying agents instead caused incessant vomiting and diarrhea, leading to death.
A man underwent herbal fumigation and washing, resulting in profuse sweating, panting, coughing, anorexia, borborygmus, cold feet, and limb convulsions. I reasoned this was Heat damaging Yuan Qi (Original Qi), insecure Cou Li (skin and interstices), and sweating leading to Yang collapse. He died that day.
