Haima Bengdu Method: For conditions such as San Yang Fa Bei (Back Carbuncle involving the Three Yang Meridians), Duikou Sore, Hand-Da-Jian (Shoulder Abscess), Mei Ju (Eyebrow Carbuncle), and Ru Fa (Breast Cellulitis) in their initial stages, use hot water to wash from behind the elbow up to the starting points of the six hand meridians. Wash dozens of times daily to vent heat and toxicity. It is essential to wash until the skin and flesh under the fingernails are affected, without stopping, continuing until the severity of the sore subsides before ceasing. This is because the three yang meridians are all governed by the Du Mai (Governing Vessel). Washing to the nail bed ensures that heat is resolved from its root. This is a secret transmission; do not neglect it lightly.
Wang Kentang stated: Meixin Ju (Carbuncle between the eyebrows), also known as Mian Feng Du (Facial Wind Toxicity), belongs to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian, caused by wind-heat accumulation and stagnation of yin and yang qi. If the color is black with severe pain, or numbness/itching occurs accompanied by alternating chills and fever, it is a Ding (Hard Carbuncle/Furuncle). (From *Zhun Sheng*)
Chen Shigong stated: Feng Mei Ju (Phoenix Eyebrow Carbuncle) erupts between the two eyes, appearing long and red-skinned, with pain radiating to Naohu (GV17), causing the eyes to close tightly, accompanied by eyelid swelling, heat, and fever. (From *Zheng Zong*)
*Yi Zong Xin Fa* (Essential Methods) states: Meixin Ju, also known as Yintang Ju (Carbuncle at the Glabella), is formed by wind-heat accumulation in the Du Mai meridian leading to qi stagnation. In the early stage, the color is dark, the base is flat, and there is hard swelling and pain. If it ulcerates and discharges thick pus around the 21st day, it is a favorable prognosis (Shun); if there is no pus and it sinks into blackness, it is an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). If the early stage presents with red color, edema, and pain, it is named Mian Feng Du Yang (Facial Wind Toxicity Ulcer); if pus forms within seven days, it is easy to treat. If the color is black, painless, with excessive numbness and itching, and the base is hard like an iron nail, accompanied by chills and fever, it is Meixin Ding (Eyebrow Hard Carbuncle).
Shen Douyuan stated: When a fetus is in the womb, if the mother consumes Wu Xin (Five Pungent Spices: garlic, onion, leek, Chinese chives, and asafoetida) and the father consumes roasted/grilled foods, heat pathogenic factors are transmitted to the child. After birth, the area between the eyebrows resembles tinea, oozing serum in patches, with incessant itching. This is called Lian Mei Chuang (Lingering Eyebrow Sore), also known as Lian Mei Chuang (Refining Eyebrow Sore). (From *Qi Xuan*)
Lian Mei Chuang Prescription (From *Jing Yi*):
Bai Yao Jian (Myrobalan Decoction Pill) (5 qian)
Sheng Bai Fan (Raw Alum) (2 qian)
Grind into fine powder, mix with Sesame Oil (Zhu Ma You) as needed, and rub onto the lesion.
Another Prescription (From *Qi Xuan*):
Yan Jiao (Tobacco Gum)
Qing Fen (Calomel) (each 1 qian)
Chuan Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (0.5 fen)
Rub with pig marrow boiled until cooked.
Gu Shicheng stated: Mei Feng Xuan (Eyebrow Tinea/Wind Scurf) is caused by dryness of Liver Blood and external invasion of Wind-Dampness. It initially itches; scratching causes it to ooze serum in clusters, spreading to the forehead and eyelids. Treatment should nourish blood and moisten the Liver. One must not recklessly apply harsh, drying, and toxic herbs such as Ban Mao (Mylabris) or Pi Shuang (Arsenic Trioxide) for rubbing. Only Zi Rong Gao (Purple Velvet Ointment) should be applied, and it will heal spontaneously.
