Prescription (from *Zhongfu Tang*)
*Prunus armeniaca* Seed (30 grains, skin and tip removed) *Realgar* (1.5 qian) *Calomelas* (1 qian)
Grind into powder. Clean the affected area, mix with *Porcine Bile*, apply topically. It will heal in two to three days. Highly effective.
*Danggui Jili Decoction* (created by Zhang Jingyue). Treats carbuncles, sores, and rashes caused by deficiency of blood and qi, where pathogenic toxins cannot be resolved, and although there is no excess heat internally, pain is profuse and unceasing. This formula is suitable for such cases and works in conjunction with *Shaoyao Jili Decoction* as complementary strategies. Detailed usage should be considered carefully.
*Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (*Danggui*), *Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata* (*Shudi*), *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (*Shaoyao*, wine-fried), *Polygoni Multiflori Radix* (*Heshouwu*) (each 2 qian); *Schizonepetae Spica* (*Jingjie Sui*), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum cum Melle* (*Zhi Gancao*), *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (*Fangfeng*), *Rhizoma Chuanxiong* (*Chuanxiong*), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (*Baizhi*) (each 1 qian); *Tribuli Fructus* (*Baijili*, fried, crushed, 5 qian)
Decoct with either wine or water and take orally. However, decocting with wine is superior as it promotes the action of the herbs. For cases of Yang deficiency failing to resolve toxins, add *Ramulus Cinnamomi* (*Guizhi*), along with *Zingiberis Rhizoma* (*Ganjiang*) and *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata* (*Fuzi*); for Qi deficiency failing to resolve toxins, add *Ginseng Radix* (*Renshen*) and *Astragali Radix* (*Huangqi*); for toxins sinking inward failing to reach the exterior, add *Manis Squama* (*Shanjia*) and *Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina* (*Zaoren*).
*Shaoyao Jili Decoction*. Treats damp-heat rashes all over the body, and various sores characterized by redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the lower body.
*Scutellariae Radix* (*Huangqin*), *Gentianae Radix* (*Longdancao*), *Akebiae Caulis* (*Mutong*), *Gardeniae Fructus* (*Shanzhi*), *Alismatis Rhizoma* (*Zexie*) (each 1.5 qian); *Rehmanniae Radix* (*Shengdi*), *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (*Shaoyao*) (each 2 qian); *Tribuli Fructus* (*Baijili*, with spines, crushed, 5 qian; severe cases use 1 liang)
Decoct with plain water and take orally. If the fire-heat is not severe, remove *Gentianae Radix* (*Longdancao*) and *Gardeniae Fructus* (*Shanzhi*).
For all malignant sores that do not heal, apply white honey. It will surely be effective.
For various swollen toxic sores causing pain and discomfort, which are unrecognized by people: Take 3-4 bulbs of *Allium cepa* (single-clove garlic), crush them, mix with sesame oil until uniform, and apply thickly to the swollen area. Replace when dry.
Another prescription: At the initial stage, apply *Phaseoli Semen Rubrum* (*Chixiaodou*) mixed well-water. It dissipates immediately.
Erysipelas and malignant sores: Apply crushed *Portulacae Herba* (*Machixian*).
Chen Yuan Gong said: When a person suffers from malignant sores for a long time, on the limbs, head, face, chest, or back, lasting for years without healing, becoming foul and rotting, and resisting all medicines, this is called "stubborn sore" (Wanchuang). It implies its obstinacy, making medical efforts seem futile. However, this is merely due to improper treatment methods. When the body's Qi and Blood are harmonious, sores do not arise; if they do appear occasionally, they heal quickly within ten days. Thus, sores arise from disharmony of Qi and Blood. This disharmony may be caused by dampness infiltration, excessive heat, or an interplay of damp-heat and cold pathogens, leading to Qi stagnation and failure to circulate, and Blood stasis failing to disperse. When these bind in the skin, skin sores form; when they bind in the flesh, flesh sores form. Over time, pus and blood remain impure, leading to the generation of parasites. People then use parasiticidal drugs that damage the skin and flesh further, causing Qi and Blood to become even more deficient. Unable to sustain the tissues, the body neglects the skin and flesh, resulting in chronic ulcers. Therefore, treating sores must focus primarily on promoting Qi circulation and activating Blood, while disregarding parasites and toxins; however, promoting Qi and activating Blood is difficult without first tonifying Qi and Blood. Tonified Qi circulates freely throughout the body, and tonified Blood flows actively everywhere.
*Jiuwan Tang*: *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (*Danggui*), *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (*Baizhu*), *Astragali Radix* (*Huangqi*), *Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata* (*Shudi*), *Ophiopogonis Radix* (*Maidong*) (each 1 liang); *Corni Fructus* (*Shanyu*), *Poria* (*Fuling*) (each 5 qian); *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (*Sheng Gancao*) (3 qian); *Bupleuri Radix* (*Chaihu*), *Saposhnikoviae Radix* (*Fangfeng*), *forsythiae Fructus* (*Lianqiao*) (each 1 qian); one slice of *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata* (*Shu Fuzi*), *Pinelliae Rhizoma* (*Banxia*) (2 qian). Decoct with water and take orally. After two doses, the sore opening will swell; this indicates the medicine is assisting Qi and Blood to battle the sore, a sign of rapid healing. After another two doses, pain will cease and itching will begin. After another two doses, recurrence will stop. (From *Bingjian*) This formula relies on the power of tonification to facilitate Qi movement and Blood activation. Once Qi moves and Blood activates, where can parasites reside? Thus, parasiticides are unnecessary, and stubborn sores heal naturally.
He also said: There are cases of sores on the inner thigh, contracting to the size of a bean, but protruding a piece of flesh resembling a mushroom. People assume it is flesh turned outward due to parasite erosion. Who would know it is actually due to Wind-Heat and Blood Dryness in the Liver Meridian! Liver Heat generates Wind; this is internal Wind, not external Wind. External Wind is cleared with cooling and dispersing methods, while internal Wind harbors heat and requires clearing. However, clearing Wind without nourishing Blood means Heat cannot be resolved and Wind cannot be dispersed. One must add heat-clearing ingredients to blood-nourishing formulas. Then dryness resolves, Heat retreats, and Wind calms naturally.
*Qingfeng Tang*: *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (*Baishao*) (1 liang); *Ginseng Radix* (*Renshen*), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (*Danggui*) (each 5 qian); *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* (*Baizhu*), *Gardeniae Fructus* (*Heizhi*), *Moutan Cortex* (*Danpi*), *Glehniae Radix* (*Shashen*), *Trichosanthis Radix* (*Huafen*) (each 3 qian); *Rhizoma Chuanxiong* (*Chuanxiong*) (2 qian); *Bupleuri Radix* (*Chaihu*), *Forsythiae Fructus* (*Lianqiao*), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (*Gancao*) (each 1 qian). Decoct with water and take orally. After several doses, the sore will naturally contract and heal. This formula nourishes Blood to support the Liver, rather than eliminating flesh to detoxify. How else could it heal the sore? Sores arise from hyperactive Liver Wood. Calming the Liver prevents Blood from becoming overly dry; naturally, Wind disperses and Heat does not cause burning inflammation. If one fails to calm the Liver and instead uses internal fire-descending agents and external corrosive/cauterizing methods, the tissue will erode and protrude repeatedly. The flesh grows larger, Qi becomes weaker, and unusual complications may arise, making rescue difficult.
