红升丹 一切疮疡溃后，拔毒去腐，生新长肉，疮口坚硬，肉暗紫黑，用丹少
许，鸡翎扫上，立刻红活。外科若无升降二丹，焉能立刻奏效。
水银（一两） 火硝（四两） 白矾（二两） 皂矾（六钱） 雄黄 朱砂（各五钱）
先将白矾、皂矾、火硝研碎，入铜杓内加烧酒一杯炖化，候一干即起，研极细
末。另将水银、朱砂、雄黄，共研细末，以不见水银星为度，再将硝矾末，一共和入研匀。
取阳城罐一个，用盐卤练纸筋，或盐卤和罐子泥练极熟，将泥搪罐子上，约一
指浓，阴干不可有裂缝，如有缝，以罐子泥补之，务要极干，方可装药入罐内。罐
口用铁灯盏盖定，加铁梁于盏上，用铁丝扎紧，再用绵纸蘸蜜塞罐口缝间，外用
过石膏细末醋调，多刷盏上，加炭火二块，使盏热罐口封固易干。
再用大铁钉三根，钉地上，将罐子架钉上，罐底置炭火坚大者数块，外砌百眼
炉，升三炷香。第一炷香，用底火，如火大则汞先飞上。第二炷香，用大半罐火，以
笔蘸水，时刻刷擦铁盏。第三炷香，火平罐口，用扇 ，用笔蘸水，频频扫盏，勿
使盏干，如干则汞先飞上。三炷香尽去火，冷定开看，盏上约有六七钱，刮下研极细，瓷瓶密贮。
另用盐卤调罐子泥，如稀糊式，以铁线系笔头在竹管上。如阳城罐上有绿烟起，
即汞走也，急以笔蘸盐泥，多多刷在出烟
之处，封固为要。
升出研细，瓷瓶收贮，愈陈愈妙。
一法∶收贮瓶内，以蜡封口，埋土内以去燥性。
红升丹，小毒，用骨簪挑药上，如痈疽口面大者，用小筛罗挑药于内，以手轻
轻弹之，均匀俱要上到。如有管，可用烂饭和红升丹捻成细条阴干，量疮深浅取用，
插入疮管内，以膏贴之，其管自化。
阳城罐升炼红升丹，名曰大升，不比三仙丹、小升力单，只可施于疮疖，若痈
疽大证，非大升不能应手。
红升丹不独提脓，且能生肌，如疮毒淌水者用之，次日即转稠脓。此丹功效，用
之一面提脓，一面长肉；肌肉长平，仍以此丹上之，即可结疤收口，首尾并用，所以为神也。
一法∶毒已提尽，将收口时，用红升丹加珍珠散各等分，乳匀名曰半提丹，用之收功甚速。
拔萃丹 提脓生肌，化管如神。
生铅 水银 火硝 白矾 青盐（各一两）
同研至水银星不见为度，入阳城罐内，铁盏盖定，以铁梁铁线扎紧，盐泥固济，先
文后武，火升三炷香，冷定开看，盏内升药刮下，研细，加冰片乳匀收贮。（火候俱同红升丹法则。）
凡升药罐底药渣铲下，研细，搽癣疥颇神。
五虎粉 治发背疔疮，恶疮如神，起钉拔箭，喉疳并效。
白矾（飞过） 焰硝（用雄猪胆三个，取汁拌，晒干，同矾研合，各二两） 雄黄（八钱五分） 朱砂
（一两，同雄黄研细，合一处） 水银（一两五钱）
用小铁锅安定，先将硝矾末堆锅底中心，用手指捺一窝，再将朱雄末倾放硝矾
窝中，又以手指捺一窝，再将水银倾放朱雄窝中，上用瓷器平口碗一只盖定，外以
盐泥周遭封固，放炭火上，先文后武，升
三炷香火，则药上升矣。离火冷定，去泥开看，如沉香色为佳，研细，瓷瓶密贮，每
用时先将疮顶上以乳汁或米汤点湿，掺药于上，过一二时辰，再掺一次，即散。
小升丹（即三仙丹）
水银（一两） 明矾 火硝（各一两二钱）
用铁锅一只，将硝、矾、平汞研细入锅内，用平口宫碗一只，（先用生姜片擦碗内外，
则不炸。）盖定碗口，以潮皮纸捻挤定，盐泥封口，碗底俱泥固之。用炭二斤，炉内周
围砌紧，勿令火气出，如碗上泥裂缝，以盐泥补之，升三炷线香为度，冷定开看，碗
内药刮下，研细，瓷瓶收贮。用之提脓长肉，小毒俱有功效。
一法∶盐泥只封碗口，不封锅底，锅底上贴湿白纸一块，但看纸转黄，则药已
升上矣。锅底上，以铁称锤压之。
一法∶以潮皮纸捻挤定，碗口外以研细石膏末按紧，不用盐泥，只用铁锤压之。
万应灵丹（《济生》）一切痈疽发背诸毒，有脓怕开刀者，以针挑破浮皮，用丹
一厘，醋调点患处，即溃头出脓。或发背痈疽大毒，每用一厘，针挑破醋调，点患
处，一日上三次，药性内攻，深可寸余，毒瓦斯有门而泄，则毒易消。如根盘大者，用
丹五厘，川贝母末一钱，浓茶卤调敷周遭，必起黄泡，自有黄水流出，其毒自消。
水银 青盐（各五钱） 皂矾（一两） 生铅（二钱五分与水银同研碎） 生矾（一两五钱） 火硝
（一两二钱五分） 白砒 硼砂 明雄（各一钱五分）

围以砖围罐半截，下衬冷灰，然后砖上及罐底，俱架炭火，先从顶上着火，从上而
下，先文后武，三炷香为度，冷定开看，盆内丹药刮下，研细瓷瓶密贮。
白降丹 凡痈疽、无名大毒，每用少许，疮大者用六七厘，小者用一二厘，水
调敷疮头上。初起者，立刻起泡消散；成脓者，腐肉即脱，拔毒消肿，诚乃夺命金丹也。

则汞先飞走，如不干则药必倒塌无用，其难如此也。再用空阳城罐一个，两口合上，
以好棉纸截寸许阔，用罐子泥、草鞋灰、光粉三样研细，以盐卤汁和练极熟，两罐口
合紧，一层泥，一层纸，糊五六层候干。将地挖一小坑，用宣法碗盛水放坑内，将空
阳城罐放水碗内，用瓦紧靠坑口，铺满四围，用炭盖齐地面，将有药阳城罐露地上，
围以炭火 之，不可使炭火有空处，计燃三炷香完去火，冷定开看，空阳城罐内约
有丹药一两，刮下研细，瓷瓶密贮。临 时，如有绿烟起处，急用罐子泥固之。降
药之神，不假刀砭，一伏时便见功效，胜于刀针之险多矣。
上降药法∶痈疽初起坚硬，未成脓者，用水调一二厘，涂于疮顶上，不可贴膏药，
少顷即起一泡，挑破出水，自消。已成而内脓急胀，按之随手而起者，此脓已熟矣，
用水调一二厘，点正顶上，以膏贴之，一伏时，大脓自泄，不假刀针。
如阴疽根脚走散，疮头平陷，即用降丹七八厘，或分许，水调扫于疮头坚硬处，
次日即转红活，便是吉兆。如疮毒内脓已成，久不穿溃者，只要出一小头，怕头出
大了，可用棉纸一块，量疮大小，剪一孔，以水润贴疮上，然后调降药点纸孔内，揭
去纸，以膏贴之，则所降之头，不致过大。若疮小药大，反令痛伤胃口， 及良肉，不可不知。
鼻塞耳挺，点之自落。点痣亦落。
初生小儿及妇女头面，皮肉娇嫩，不可多用，如用之不善，不无漫肿，反招怨尤。
杨梅疮，将初现之疮，用白降丹点三五个，毒俱拔出。
白降丹点在疮毒上，即追蚀毒瓦斯，有几分深必追至病根方止，所以点后疼痛非
常。若内脓已胀，皮壳不浓，点之便不十分痛楚，有用蟾酥化汁调白降丹用，其痛稍减。
凡痈疽，以红升丹提脓，兼用珍珠散收口，每见升提过甚，疮口四边起埂，亦
有疮口新肉高凸者，不如用陈白降丹（火气退尽）少许，同珍珠散用之，不但四边疮口平
坦，更且不留余毒，此又外科不知之妙诀也。
水炼降药法∶新炼出白降丹，研细，用元色缎五寸，将降药筛匀缎上，卷紧，以
麻线捆扎极紧，放瓦铫内，清水煮约一伏时，内换水三次，将缎卷取起，挂风处阴
干，然后打开，以鸡翎扫下，瓷瓶收贮。凡治痈疽用之，并无痛楚。
紫阳丹 提脓拔毒。
水银 银朱 生铅 百草霜 轻粉 杭粉 雄黄（各等分） 麝香（宜少用）
共研极细末。每用少许搽之，以膏贴之。如治下疽加儿茶。
提毒丹（一名七星丹，又名八仙丹。）
乳香（去油） 没药（去油，各二钱） 元参（瓦上焙脆） 前胡（瓦上焙脆） 血竭 麝香（各四分） 生
斑蝥（八钱，去净头、足、翅，阴阳瓦焙）
上各乳极细末。于端午正午时和匀，瓷瓶密贮。凡初起肿毒，每用二三厘，先看
疮势大小，即以膏药照疮大小，周遭用大蒜捣如泥，敷膏药上，中留一孔，入药于
内，次日即起小泡，挑去水泡即消。如已溃者，掺药于疮孔内，亦能拔毒生肌，神验。
一方乳香、没药各一钱二分，血竭六分，多冰片四分，余者分两俱同，端午虔
心焚香修合，每用一分，用大蒜捣如泥，敷毒四围，将疮头挑破，听疮口流水，外用
膏药，中剪一孔贴之，以备疮毒出其毒瓦斯，此神速痈疽疔疮圣药也。
阴阳至圣丹（岐天师）
人参 广三七 儿茶（水飞去砂） 川倍子（各一两） 血竭（透明者五钱） 藤黄 乳香（去油，
各三钱） 轻粉（一钱） 冰片（一钱） 川贝母（去心，二钱）
共研至无声为度。阳疮每用二钱，阴疮每用五钱，掺于疮上，其余疮毒不消二
次，阴疽不消三次，全愈。
冯氏援生膏 治诸般恶疮，及瘰 鼠 才起者，点破即愈。
雄黄（五钱） 乳香（去油） 没药（去油） 血竭（各一钱） 蟾酥 轻粉（各三钱） 麝香（五分）
上研细末。用真炭灰一斗三升，淋灰汤八九碗，用桑柴文武火煎作三碗，取一
碗，收留二碗，盛瓷器内，候温将药入灰汤内，用桑柳枝搅，再以好风化锻石一饭
碗，入药汤内搅匀，过宿候冷，盛瓷罐内。凡遇恶疮，贴在当头，一日一次，次日又
一次，疮头自然蚀破，血水流去即愈，如药干，将前收留灰汤润之。
海浮散（《十法》） 搽痈疽疮毒，腐去新生，乃回生保命之宝丹也。
乳香 没药（各等分）
安箬叶上，火炙去油，乳细搽上，以膏贴之，此药未尽则提脓外出，如毒已尽，
则收口，其神妙处，难以言喻。
乌金膏（《十法》） 去腐肉，不伤新肉，最为平善，先用降香煎汤洗疮。
巴豆（去壳，新瓦上炒黑色）
研烂，瓷瓶收贮，多寡看疮势大小，酌量用之。
灵宝如意丹 发背疔疽大毒。
人参 乳香（去油） 没药（去油） 辰砂 甘草 儿茶（各一钱） 琥珀 珍珠（各二分） 阿
胶白芷 冰片（各一分） 犀牛黄 当门子（各五分）
上乳细，瓷瓶密贮，勿泄药味。如用，先将疮用金银花甘草煎汤洗净，每日掺药
四五次，用膏盖之，脓水自然拔尽，忌口味，戒烦恼，慎劳碌。
发背对口溃烂不收口。
三仙丹（一料，方详前） 珍珠（一钱，豆腐煮透） 乳香（去油） 没药（去油） 血竭（各二钱）
共乳极细，先将温汤洗疮，棉花揩干，将药掺上，用竹纸蘸湿粘贴，一日一换。
治背疽大溃仅存膈膜临危者。（《锦囊》）
鲫鱼去肠，实以羯羊粪烘焦为末，干掺之，疮口自收，神效方也。
抵金散（《启玄》） 治痈疽发背，溃后烂开作痛。
屎蜣螂（五月五日收采，不拘多少，装入竹筒内阴干）
研细，瓷瓶收贮，凡用将末掺上。
神功紫霞丹（太医院）
大蜈蚣（一条，去头、足，放瓦上焙脆） 麝香（二分）
研细。瓷瓶收贮，每用少许掺疮顶上，以膏盖之，其头即溃，并不疼痛。
拔毒生肌。
红升丹 轻粉 萆麻仁（去油，各三钱） 乳香（去油） 黄丹（各二钱） 石膏（ ，一两） 琥珀
（乳细一钱）
共乳细末，掺上膏贴。
诸疮毒四边紫黑不消，疮口不敛。
红升丹 轻粉 雄黄 龙骨（各五钱） 白蔹 密陀僧 海螵蛸（各一两） 麝香（一分）
共乳极细，掺上。
金蟾化管丸（《刘秘》）治一切诸漏有管者，虽弯曲之处，皆能行到，化管如神。
水银（三钱） 明雄黄（一两，以二斤火酒，渐煮渐添，以酒尽为度）
共乳细。用纸包好，取大蛤蟆（一个，剖去肠，只留肝肺。）将药包入于肚内，以线缝好，听用。
又方
银硝 白矾（各一两）
研匀。入阳城罐内，加水半茶盅，放火上熬令枯于罐底，取放地上，再纳蛤蟆
于内，铁盏盖好，盐泥固济，升文火三炷香，中火一炷香，武火一炷香，冷定开看，
盏上灵药刮下研细，用蟾酥乳化为丸如芥子大，阴干。凡一切管，用一丸放膏药上，
对管口，自入到底方回，嫩管自化，老管自褪，七日见效，如未全褪，再用一丸，无不除根。
红升丹：适用于一切疮疡溃破之后，用于拔除毒邪、去除腐肉、促进新肉生长。若疮口坚硬，肌肉呈暗紫黑色，取少量丹药，用鸡毛掸扫在患处，立刻能使患处红润鲜活。外科治疗如果没有升降二丹，怎能立刻见效？
配方：水银（一两）、火硝（四两）、白矾（二两）、皂矾（六钱）、雄黄、朱砂（各五钱）。
制法：先将白矾、皂矾、火硝研碎，放入铜勺中，加一杯烧酒炖化，待水分完全蒸发后立即取出，研磨成极细粉末。另外将水银、朱砂、雄黄共同研磨成细末，直到看不见水银颗粒为止。然后将硝矾末与之混合，一起研磨均匀。
准备容器：取一个阳城罐，用盐卤调和纸筋，或者用盐卤和罐子泥反复揉练至熟透，将泥涂抹在罐子上，厚度约一指，阴干，确保没有裂缝。如果有裂缝，用罐子泥修补，务必使其极度干燥，然后才能装入药物。罐口用铁灯盏盖住，在灯盏上加铁梁，用铁丝扎紧。再用绵纸蘸蜂蜜塞满罐口缝隙，外部用经过煅烧的石膏细末调醋，多刷在灯盏上，加两块炭火，使灯盏发热，让罐口封固处容易干燥。
再取三根大铁钉钉在地上，将罐子架在钉子上，罐底放置几块坚实的大炭火，外部砌成百眼炉，燃烧三炷香的时间。第一炷香，使用底火，如果火势太大，水银会先升华飞散。第二炷香，使用大半罐的火，用笔蘸水，时刻擦拭铁盏。第三炷香，火势平齐罐口，用扇子扇风，用笔蘸水，频繁清扫灯盏，不要让灯盏变干，如果干了，水银会先升华飞散。三炷香燃尽后去掉火源，冷却后打开查看，灯盏上约有六七钱丹药，刮下来研磨极细，存入瓷瓶中密封保存。
另用盐卤调和罐子泥，像稀糊一样，用铁线系住笔头固定在竹管上。如果阳城罐上有绿烟冒出，说明水银泄漏了，急忙用笔蘸盐泥，大量刷在冒烟之处，必须封固好。
用法：红升丹有小毒，用骨簪挑药敷上。如果痈疽疮口较大，用小筛罗将药筛入内，用手轻轻弹动，使药物均匀覆盖。如果有窦道（疮管），可用烂饭和红升丹捻成细条，阴干，根据疮的深度选用，插入疮管内，贴上膏药，窦道自然化解。
阳城罐升华炼制的红升丹，称为“大升”，不同于三仙丹、小升丹力量单薄，只可用于疖肿。如果是痈疽重症，非大升丹不能应手奏效。
红升丹不仅能提脓，还能生肌。如疮毒流水者使用它，第二天脓液就会变得浓稠。此丹的功效在于，一面提脓，一面长肉；当肌肉长平后，仍以此丹敷上，即可结痂收口，首尾并用，所以被称为神药。
另一种方法：毒已提尽，即将收口时，用红升丹加珍珠散各等分，研磨均匀，称为“半提丹”，用它收功非常迅速。
制法：共同研磨至看不见水银颗粒为止，放入阳城罐内，用铁盏盖定，以铁梁铁线扎紧，用盐泥密封固定。先文火后武火，用火升华三炷香的时间，冷却后打开查看，将盏内的升药刮下，研磨细，加冰片研磨均匀收存。（火候与红升丹法则相同。）
配方：白矾（飞过）、焰硝（用三个雄猪胆取汁拌，晒干，同矾研合，各二两）、雄黄（八钱五分）、朱砂（一两，同雄黄研细，合一处）、水银（一两五钱）。

制法：以上各药研磨极细末。于端午正午时和匀，瓷瓶密封保存。凡初起肿毒，每次用二三厘，先看疮势大小，即以膏药照疮大小，周遭用大蒜捣如泥，敷膏药上，中留一孔，入药于内，次日即起小泡，挑去水泡即消。如已溃者，掺药于疮孔内，亦能拔毒生肌，神验。
一方：乳香、没药各一钱二分，血竭六分，多冰片四分，余者分量俱同，端午虔心焚香修合，每次用一分，用大蒜捣如泥，敷毒四围，将疮头挑破，听疮口流水，外用膏药，中剪一孔贴之，以备疮毒出其毒瓦斯，此神速痈疽疔疮圣药也。
配方：人参、广三七、儿茶（水飞去砂）、川倍子（各一两）、血竭（透明者五钱）、藤黄、乳香（去油，各三钱）、轻粉（一钱）、冰片（一钱）、川贝母（去心，二钱）。
制法：共同研磨至无声为止。阳疮每次用二钱，阴疮每次用五钱，掺于疮上，其余疮毒不消二次，阴疽不消三次，全愈。
配方：雄黄（五钱）、乳香（去油）、没药（去油）、血竭（各一钱）、蟾酥、轻粉（各三钱）、麝香（五分）。
制法：以上研细末。用真炭灰一斗三升，淋灰汤八九碗，用桑柴文武火煎作三碗，取一碗，收留二碗，盛瓷器内，候温将药入灰汤内，用桑柳枝搅，再以好风化锻石一饭碗，入药汤内搅匀，过宿候冷，盛瓷罐内。凡遇恶疮，贴在当头，一日一次，次日又一次，疮头自然蚀破，血水流去即愈，如药干，将前收留灰汤润之。
海浮散（《十法》）：搽痈疽疮毒，腐去新生，乃回生保命之宝丹也。
制法：安箬叶上，火炙去油，乳细搽上，以膏贴之，此药未尽则提脓外出，如毒已尽，则收口，其神妙处，难以言喻。
乌金膏（《十法》）：去腐肉，不伤新肉，最为平善，先用降香煎汤洗疮。
配方：巴豆（去壳，新瓦上炒黑色）。
配方：人参、乳香（去油）、没药（去油）、辰砂、甘草、儿茶（各一钱）、琥珀、珍珠（各二分）、阿胶、白芷、冰片（各一分）、犀牛黄、当门子（各五分）。
制法：以上研磨细，瓷瓶密封保存，勿泄药味。如用，先将疮用金银花甘草煎汤洗净，每日掺药四五次，用膏盖之，脓水自然拔尽，忌口味，戒烦恼，慎劳碌。
配方：三仙丹（一料，方详前）、珍珠（一钱，豆腐煮透）、乳香（去油）、没药（去油）、血竭（各二钱）。
制法：共研磨极细，先将温汤洗疮，棉花揩干，将药掺上，用竹纸蘸湿粘贴，一日一换。
配方：鲫鱼去肠，实以羯羊粪烘焦为末，干掺之，疮口自收，神效方也。
神功紫霞丹（太医院）：
配方：大蜈蚣（一条，去头、足，放瓦上焙脆）、麝香（二分）。
制法：研细。瓷瓶收存，每次用少许掺疮顶上，以膏盖之，其头即溃，并不疼痛。
配方：红升丹、轻粉、萆麻仁（去油，各三钱）、乳香（去油）、黄丹（各二钱）、石膏（煅，一两）、琥珀（乳细一钱）。
制法：共研磨细末，掺上膏贴。
配方：红升丹、轻粉、雄黄、龙骨（各五钱）、白蔹、密陀僧、海螵蛸（各一两）、麝香（一分）。
制法：共同研磨极细，掺上。
金蟾化管丸（《刘秘》）：治一切诸漏有管者，虽弯曲之处，皆能行到，化管如神。
配方：水银（三钱）、明雄黄（一两，以二斤火酒，渐煮渐添，以酒尽为度）。
制法：共同研磨细。用纸包好，取大蛤蟆（一个，剖去肠，只留肝肺。）将药包入于肚内，以线缝好，听用。
又方：
配方：银硝、白矾（各一两）。
制法：研匀。入阳城罐内，加水半茶盅，放火上熬令枯于罐底，取放地上，再纳蛤蟆于内，铁盏盖好，盐泥固济，升文火三炷香，中火一炷香，武火一炷香，冷却后打开查看，盏上灵药刮下研细，用蟾酥乳化为丸如芥子大，阴干。凡一切管，用一丸放膏药上，对管口，自入到底方回，嫩管自化，老管自褪，七日见效，如未全褪，再用一丸，无不除根。
Hongsheng Dan (Red Ascending Powder): Applicable after the ulceration of all sores and carbuncles, used to extract toxins, remove necrotic tissue, and promote the growth of new flesh. If the wound edge is hard and the muscle appears dark purple or black, take a small amount of the powder, apply it with a chicken feather, and the area will immediately become red and vibrant. Without the use of Shengjiang Erdan (Ascending and Descending Two Powders) in external surgery, how can immediate effects be achieved?
Formula: Hydrargyrum (Shuiyin, 水银, 1 liang), Saltpeter Huoxiao, 火硝 (4 liang), Alum BaiFan, 白矾 (2 liang), Green Vitriol ZaoFan, 皂矾 (6 qian), Realgar Xionghuang, 雄黄, Cinnabar Zhusha, 朱砂 (5 qian each).
Preparation: First, grind BaiFan (Alum), ZaoFan (Green Vitriol), and Huoxiao (Saltpeter) into powder. Place them in a copper spoon, add one cup of distilled spirits, and heat until dissolved. Once the liquid has completely evaporated, remove from heat and grind into an extremely fine powder. Separately, grind Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum), Zhusha (Cinnabar), and Xionghuang (Realgar) together into a fine powder until no visible particles of mercury remain. Then, mix this with the nitre-alum powder and grind thoroughly until uniform.
Container Preparation: Take one Yangcheng jar. Coat the exterior with paper筋 (paper fibers) mixed with brine, or with jar mud prepared by kneading clay with brine until smooth. Apply a layer of mud about one finger thick to the jar. Air-dry until crack-free; repair any cracks with jar mud. Ensure the jar is completely dry before loading the medicine. Cover the jar mouth with an iron lamp saucer. Secure the saucer with an iron bar and wire. Seal the gap between the jar mouth and saucer with cotton paper dipped in honey. Brush the outside of the saucer multiple times with a paste made of calcined gypsum powder and vinegar. Add two pieces of charcoal to heat the saucer, helping the seal dry quickly.
Firing Process: Drive three large iron nails into the ground and place the jar on top. Place several large charcoal pieces under the jar bottom. Build a "Hundred-Eye Furnace" around it. Burn for three incense sticks' duration.
1. First incense stick: Use bottom fire. If the fire is too strong, mercury may sublime prematurely.
2. Second incense stick: Use fire filling half the jar. Moisten a brush with water and constantly wipe the iron saucer.
3. Third incense stick: Fire should reach the level of the jar mouth. Fan the fire. Frequently sweep the saucer with a water-moistened brush to prevent it from drying out; if it dries, mercury may sublime prematurely.
After three incense sticks, extinguish the fire. Allow to cool completely before opening. Approximately 6-7 qian of powder should be collected on the saucer. Scrape it off, grind finely, and store in a sealed porcelain bottle.
Emergency Repair: Prepare a mud paste using brine and jar mud. Attach a brush to a bamboo tube using wire. If green smoke appears from the Yangcheng jar, it indicates mercury leakage. Immediately brush the leaking area generously with the salt-mud paste to seal it.
Storage: Grind the sublimated powder finely and store in a porcelain bottle. The older, the better.
Alternative Storage Method: Seal the bottle with wax and bury it in the earth to reduce its caustic nature.
Usage: Hongsheng Dan has slight toxicity. Use a bone needle to apply the powder. For large carbuncle openings, use a small sieve to dust the powder evenly over the wound by gently tapping. If there is a sinus tract (tube), mix rotten rice with Hongsheng Dan to form thin strips, air-dry them, and insert them into the tract according to depth. Apply a plaster over it; the tract will naturally dissolve.
The Hongsheng Dan sublimated in a Yangcheng jar is called "Da Sheng" (Great Ascending). It is more potent than Sanxian Dan (Three Immortals Powder) or Xiao Sheng Dan (Small Ascending Powder), which are only suitable for boils. For severe carbuncles and ulcers, only Da Sheng is effective.
Hongsheng Dan not only extracts pus but also generates flesh. For weeping toxic sores, application results in thicker pus the next day. Its efficacy lies in simultaneously extracting pus and promoting tissue regeneration. Once the tissue is level, continued application promotes scabbing and wound closure. This comprehensive action makes it miraculous.
Alternative Usage: When toxins are fully extracted and the wound is closing, mix equal parts Hongsheng Dan and Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder), grind uniformly, and call it "Banti Dan" (Half-Extracting Powder). It accelerates wound closure significantly.
Bacui Dan (Extraction Extracting Powder): Extracts pus, generates flesh, and dissolves sinus tracts miraculously.
Formula: Raw Lead (Shengqian, 生铅), Hydrargyrum (Shuiyin, 水银), Saltpeter (Huoxiao, 火硝), Alum (Baifan, 白矾), Green Salt (Qingyan, 青盐) (1 liang each).
Preparation: Grind together until no mercury particles are visible. Place in a Yangcheng jar, cover with an iron saucer, secure with iron bars and wire, and seal with mud. Heat with gentle fire then strong fire for three incense sticks. Cool, open, scrape the sublimated powder, grind finely, add Borneol (Bingpian, 冰片), grind uniformly, and store. (Firing rules are same as Hongsheng Dan.)
Residue at the bottom of the jar after sublimation can be scraped, ground fine, and applied to tinea and scabies for miraculous effect.
Wuhu Fen (Five Tigers Powder): Treats back carbuncles, malignant sores, removes splinters/arrows, and treats throat gangrene.
Formula: Alum Baifan, 白矾 (calcined), Saltpeter Yanxiao, 焰硝 (mixed with juice of three male pig gallbladders, dried, and ground with alum, 2 liang each), Realgar Xionghuang, 雄黄 (8.5 qian), Cinnabar Zhusha, 朱砂 (1 liang, ground fine with Realgar), Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银 (1.5 liang).
Preparation: Place a small iron pot securely. Pile nitre-alum powder in the center of the pot bottom. Press a depression with a finger. Pour Cinnabar-Realgar mixture into the depression. Press another depression. Pour Hydrargyrum into this depression. Cover with a flat-bottomed porcelain bowl. Seal the exterior with mud. Place on charcoal fire. Heat with gentle fire then strong fire for three incense sticks. The medicine will sublime. Cool, remove mud, check for沉香色 (agarwood color) which is ideal. Grind fine, store in sealed porcelain bottle.
Usage: Moisten the sore top with milk or rice water. Dust powder on. After 1-2 hours, apply again. Toxin dissipates.
Xiao Sheng Dan (Small Ascending Powder / Sanxian Dan):
Formula: Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银 (1 liang), Alum Mingfan, 明矾, Saltpeter Huoxiao, 火硝 (1.2 liang each).
Preparation: Use an iron pot. Grind nitre, alum, and mercury fine, place in pot. Cover with a flat palace bowl (wipe inside/outside with ginger slice first to prevent cracking). Seal with damp leather paper twisted tight, and mud. Seal bowl bottom with mud. Use 2 jin of charcoal, pack furnace tightly to contain heat. Repair mud cracks with salt mud. Sublime for three incense sticks. Cool, open, scrape powder, grind fine, store in porcelain bottle. Used to extract pus and generate flesh; mild toxicity but effective.
Alternative Method 1: Seal only the bowl mouth with mud, not the bottom. Place a wet white paper on the bottom. When paper turns yellow, sublimation is complete. Press bottom with an iron weight.
Alternative Method 2: Seal with damp leather paper. Press fine gypsum powder tightly around the mouth. Do not use mud; press with iron weight.
Wanying Ling Dan (Ten Thousand Response Spiritual Pill) (from *Jisheng*): Treats all carbuncles, back sores, and various toxins. For those afraid of surgical incision due to pus: puncture the superficial skin with a needle, apply 1 li of pill mixed with vinegar to the site. Pus will immediately drain. For severe back carbuncles/toxins: use 1 li per application, puncture, mix with vinegar, apply to site. Apply 3 times daily. Medicine penetrates deeply (over 1 cun), providing an exit for toxin gas, facilitating resolution. For wide base sores: use 5 li of pill + 1 qian of Chuanbeimu (Fritillaria Bulb) powder, mix with strong tea decoction, apply around the perimeter. Yellow blisters will rise, draining yellow fluid, resolving toxin.
Formula: Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银, Green Salt Qingyan, 青盐 (5 qian each), Green Vitriol Zaofan, 皂矾 (1 liang), Raw Lead Shengqian, 生铅 (2.5 qian, ground with mercury), Raw Alum Shengfan, 生矾 (1.5 liang), Saltpeter Huoxiao, 火硝 (1.25 liang), White Arsenic Baipi, 白砒, Borax Pengsha, 硼砂, Bright Realgar Mingxiong, 明雄 (1.5 qian each).
Preparation: Grind all to extreme fineness. Place in small earthenware jar. Melt on charcoal fire until residue settles at bottom. Invert this jar into the center of a larger earthenware basin. Seal jar mouth with mud. Place the inverted jar assembly into a large basin filled with water. Surround the jar mouth halfway with bricks. Place cold ash underneath. Place charcoal fires on bricks and under the jar bottom. Ignite from top down. Gentle fire then strong fire for three incense sticks. Cool, open, scrape pills from basin, grind fine, store in sealed porcelain bottle.
Baijiang Dan (White Descending Powder): For carbuncles, ulcers, and nameless great toxins. Use small amount: 6-7 li for large sores, 1-2 li for small. Mix with water and apply to sore head. Early stage: causes blistering and dissolution. Suppurative stage: necrotic tissue detaches, extracts toxin, reduces swelling. A life-saving golden pill.
Formula: Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银, Table Salt Yanshi, 食盐, Green Vitriol Zaofan, 皂矾, Saltpeter Huoxiao, 火硝, Alum Baifan, 白矾 (2.5 liang each), Cinnabar Zhusha, 朱砂, Realgar Xionghuang, 雄黄 (water-washed, 3 qian each), Borax Pengsha, 硼砂 (5 qian, sometimes replaced with Naocha, 硇砂).
Preparation: Grind Cinnabar, Realgar, Borax fine. Add Green Vitriol, Salt, Nitre, Alum, Mercury. Grind until no mercury particles visible. Place Yangcheng jar on low heat. Slowly add medicine to melt. Dry thoroughly with low heat ("Yin Sheng" method). Critical step: high fire causes mercury loss; incomplete drying causes collapse/uselessness. Take a second empty Yangcheng jar. Join mouths. Seal with layers of cotton paper (1 cun wide) and mud (jar mud, straw shoe ash, kaolin) mixed with brine. Apply 5-6 layers. Dry. Dig a small pit. Place a bowl of water in pit. Put empty jar in water bowl. Brick up pit edges. Cover ground with charcoal. Place medicine-filled jar exposed above ground. Surround with charcoal fire. Burn for three incense sticks. Cool, open. Collect approx. 1 liang of pill from empty jar. Grind fine, store in sealed porcelain bottle. If green smoke appears during process, seal immediately with jar mud. Descending powder works without knives/needles, showing effects in one watch (2 hours), safer than surgical incision.
Usage Instructions for Jiang Yao (Descending Medicine):
1. Early stage, hard, un-suppurated: Mix 1-2 li with water, apply to sore top. Do NOT apply plaster. Blister forms shortly. Puncture to release fluid; resolves spontaneously.
2. Mature suppuration, tense, rebounds on pressure: Mix 1-2 li with water, apply to center top. Cover with plaster. Large pus drains in one watch without knife/needle.
3. Yin carbuncle spreading roots, flat/depressed head: Apply 7-8 li or 1 fen of Jiang Dan mixed with water to hard areas. Turns red/vibrant next day (auspicious).
4. Internal pus formed, long-standing non-draining: Create a small opening. To prevent large opening, cut a hole in wetted cotton paper sized to sore. Apply paper to sore. Drop Jiang Dan mixture into hole. Remove paper, apply plaster. Limits size of opened area. Caution: Too much medicine on small sore causes pain, damages healthy tissue.
Other uses: Nasal blockage, ear polyps, moles – drop application causes falling.
Contraindications: Newborns, women's faces (delicate skin). Improper use causes diffuse swelling and resentment.
Syphilis (Yangmei Chuang): Apply Baijiang Dan to 3-5 early lesions to extract toxin.
Pain: Baijiang Dan traces toxin to root, causing severe pain. If internal pus is full and skin thin, pain is less. Mixing with Chan Su (Toad Venom) juice reduces pain.
Surgical Tip: Using Hongsheng Dan to extract pus and Zhenzhu San to close wounds often leads to raised edges or hypertrophic granulation if extraction is excessive. Better to use aged Baijiang Dan (fire qi exhausted) mixed with Zhenzhu San. This flattens edges and prevents residual toxin. A secret known only to some surgeons.
Water-Refining Jiang Yao Method: Fresh Baijiang Dan, ground fine. Spread evenly on 5 cun of raw silk. Roll tight, bind with hemp thread. Boil in earthenware pot with clear water for one watch, changing water 3 times. Remove roll, air-dry in shade. Unroll, sweep powder with chicken feather, store in porcelain bottle. Painless when treating carbuncles.
Ziyang Dan: Extracts pus, removes toxin.
Formula: Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银, Silver Cinnabar Yinzhu, 银朱, Raw Lead Shengqian, 生铅, Grass Soot Baicaoshuang, 百草霜, Calomel Qingfen, 轻粉, Hangzhou Starch Hangfen, 杭粉, Realgar Xionghuang, 雄黄 (equal parts), Musk Shexiang, 麝香 (small amount).
Preparation: Grind fine. Apply small amount, cover with plaster. Add Ercha (Catechu) for lower body sores.
Tidu Dan (Toxin Extraction Pill) (aka Qixing Dan, Baxian Dan):
Formula: Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled), Myrrh Moyao, 没药 (de-oiled, 2 qian each), Scrophularia Yuanshen, 元参 (baked crisp on tile), Peucedanum Qianhu, 前胡 (baked crisp on tile), Dragon's Blood Xuexie, 血竭, Musk Shexiang, 麝香 (4 fen each), Live Blister Beetle Sheng Banmao, 生斑蝥 (8 qian, remove head/legs/wings, bake on yin-yang tile).
Preparation: Grind each separately to fine powder. Mix uniformly at noon on Dragon Boat Festival. Store in sealed porcelain bottle.
Usage: For early swelling, use 2-3 li. Apply plaster sized to sore. Surround with garlic paste. Leave center hole. Insert medicine. Next day, small blister forms. Puncture to resolve. For open sores, sprinkle in hole. Extracts toxin, generates flesh. Miraculous.
Alternative Formula: Ruxiang/Moyao 1.2 qian each, Xuexie 6 fen, Bingpian (Borneol) 4 fen. Rest same quantities. Prepare with prayer on Dragon Boat Festival. Use 1 fen. Garlic paste around sore. Puncture head. Let drain. Cover with perforated plaster. Allows toxin gas exit. Holy medicine for rapid resolution of carbuncles/sores.
Yinyang Zhisheng Dan (Heavenly Master Qi):
Formula: Ginseng Renshen, 人参, Panax Notoginseng Guangsanqi, 广三七, Catechu Ercha, 儿茶 (water-washed), Fritillaria Thunbergii Chuanbeizi, 川倍子 (1 liang each), Transparent Dragon's Blood Xuexie, 血竭 (5 qian), Para Rubber Tenghuang, 藤黄, Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled, 3 qian each), Calomel Qingfen, 轻粉 (1 qian), Borneol Bingpian, 冰片 (1 qian), Fritillaria Chuanbeimu, 川贝母 (core removed, 2 qian).
Preparation: Grind until silent sound.
Usage: Yang sores: 2 qian. Yin sores: 5 qian. Sprinkle on sore. Other toxins resolve in <2 applications; Yin carbuncles in <3 applications. Complete cure.
Fengshi Yuansheng Gao (Feng's Life-Supporting Plaster): Treats various malignant sores, early-stage scrofula/lumps. Puncture and apply for cure.
Formula: Realgar Xionghuang, 雄黄 (5 qian), Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled), Myrrh Moyao, 没药 (de-oiled), Dragon's Blood Xuexie, 血竭 (1 qian each), Toad Venom Chan Su, 蟾酥, Calomel Qingfen, 轻粉 (3 qian each), Musk Shexiang, 麝香 (5 fen).
Preparation: Grind fine. Use 1.3 dou 3 sheng of real charcoal ash. Leach with 8-9 bowls of water. Decoct with mulberry wood fire to 3 bowls. Reserve 2 bowls. Add medicine to 1 bowl of warm ash water. Stir with mulberry/willow branch. Add 1 rice bowl of weathered lime (Duan Shi, 锻石). Stir well. Cool overnight. Store in ceramic jar.
Usage: Apply to center of malignant sore once daily. Sore head erodes naturally. Blood/fluid drains, curing sore. If dry, moisten with reserved ash water.
Haifu San (Sea Float Powder) (from *Shifa*): For carbuncles/ulcers. Removes necrosis, generates new tissue. Treasure for restoring life.
Formula: Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香, Myrrh Moyao, 没药 (equal parts).
Preparation: Place on bamboo leaf, roast over fire to remove oil. Grind fine. Apply, cover with plaster. As long as medicine remains, it extracts pus. When toxin is gone, it closes wound. Miraculous.
Wujin Gao (Black Gold Ointment) (from *Shifa*): Removes necrotic tissue without harming new flesh. Very safe. Wash sore with Xiangjie (Aquilaria) decoction first.
Formula: Croton Seed Badou, 巴豆 (shell removed, stir-fried black on new tile).
Preparation: Grind to paste. Store in porcelain bottle. Dosage depends on sore size.
Lingbao Ruyi Dan: Back carbuncles, malignant sores.
Formula: Ginseng Renshen, 人参, Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled), Myrrh Moyao, 没药 (de-oiled), Cinnabar Chen Sha, 辰砂, Licorice Gancao, 甘草, Catechu Ercha, 儿茶 (1 qian each), Amber Hupo, 琥珀, Pearl Zhenzhu, 珍珠 (2 fen each), Donkey-hide Gelatin Ejiao, 阿胶, Angelica Baizhi, 白芷, Borneol Bingpian, 冰片 (1 fen each), Rhinoceros Horn Xiuniu Huang, 犀牛黄, Muskmusk Dangmenzi, 当门子 (5 fen each).
Preparation: Grind fine, store in sealed bottle.
Usage: Wash sore with Honeysuckle/Licorice decoction. Sprinkle medicine 4-5 times daily. Cover with plaster. Pus drains naturally. Avoid spicy food, worry, fatigue.
Back Carbuncle/Face-to-Face Ulcer failing to heal:
Formula: Sanxian Dan (1 dose, see previous formula), Pearl Zhenzhu, 珍珠 (1 qian, boiled in tofu), Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled), Myrrh Moyao, 没药 (de-oiled), Dragon's Blood Xuexie, 血竭 (2 qian each).
Preparation: Grind ultra-fine. Wash sore with warm water, dry with cotton. Sprinkle medicine. Paste with wet bamboo paper. Change daily.
Treating critical back carbuncle with large ulceration leaving only diaphragm (*Jinnang*):
Formula: Crucian carp, gutted, stuffed with sheep dung, baked charred, ground to powder. Dry sprinkle. Wound closes. Miraculous.
Dijin San (Gold-Resisting Powder) (from *Qixuan*): Treating carbuncles/back sores, painful after ulceration.
Formula: Dung Beetle Shiqianglang, 屎蜣螂 (collected May 5th, air-dry in bamboo tube).
Preparation: Grind fine, store in porcelain bottle. Sprinkle powder on use.
Shengong Zixia Dan (Imperial Hospital):
Formula: Large Centipede Dawugong, 大蜈蚣 (1, remove head/legs, bake crisp on tile), Musk Shexiang, 麝香 (2 fen).
Preparation: Grind fine, store in porcelain bottle. Sprinkle small amount on sore top, cover with plaster. Head suppurates without pain.
Action: Extracts toxin, generates flesh.
Formula for extracting toxin/generating flesh:
Hongsheng Dan, Calomel Qingfen, Castor Seed Bimaren, 萆麻仁 (de-oiled, 3 qian each), Frankincense Ruxiang, 乳香 (de-oiled), Lead Oxide Huangdan, 黄丹 (2 qian each), Calcined Gypsum Shigao, 石膏 (1 liang), Amber Hupo, 琥珀 (ground fine, 1 qian).
Preparation: Grind fine, sprinkle, cover with plaster.
For sores with dark/purple edges failing to heal:
Formula: Hongsheng Dan, Calomel Qingfen, Realgar Xionghuang, Dragon Bone Longgu, 龙骨 (5 qian each), White Peony Root Bailian, 白蔹, Litharge Mituosen, 密陀僧, Cuttlebone Haipiaoxiao, 海螵蛸 (1 liang each), Musk Shexiang, 麝香 (1 fen).
Preparation: Grind ultra-fine, sprinkle.
Jinchan Huaguan Wan (Golden Toad Sinus-Dissolving Pill) (from *Liu Mi*): Treats all fistulas with tracts, even curved ones. Dissolves tracts miraculously.
Formula: Hydrargyrum Shuiyin, 水银 (3 qian), Bright Realgar Mingxionghuang, 明雄黄 (1 liang, boiled in 2 jin liquor until dry).
Preparation: Grind fine. Wrap in paper. Take large toad (1, eviscerate, keep liver/lungs). Insert medicine packet into stomach. Sew shut.
Alternative Formula: Silver Nitrate Yiniao, 银硝, Alum Baifan, 白矾 (1 liang each).
Preparation: Grind uniform. Place in Yangcheng jar with half teacup water. Boil until dry at bottom. Remove, place on ground. Insert toad. Cover with iron saucer, seal with mud. Sublime: 3 incense sticks gentle fire, 1 medium, 1 strong. Cool, scrape powder from saucer, grind fine. Mix with Toad Venom Chan Su, 蟾酥 to make mustard-seed pills. Air-dry.
Usage: Place one pill on plaster against sinus opening. Enters to bottom. Young tracts dissolve, old tracts shed. Effect in 7 days. Repeat if necessary for radical cure.
