Shen Douyuan stated: It is named so because the sores appear below the lower lip and on the chin bone. This condition arises from damp-heat accumulation in the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) meridian, located near the Chengjiang acupoint at the angle of the mandible. It should be treated primarily with herbs that drain dampness and clear heat. (From *Qixuan*)
Yanghu San (Decoction for Goat Beard Sores) (Formula by Shen Douyuan). Yanjiao (Tobacco Resin, 5 qian) Qingfen (Calomel, 1 qian) Yanghuxu (Goat beard hairs, a pinch, calcined to ash)
Grind together into fine powder. If the lesion is moist, apply dry powder; if dry, mix with oil and apply externally.
Chen Shigong stated: Few cases of Feichuang (Greasy Scabs/Tinea Capitis) are caused by fetal toxins; most result from touching the head with oily hands after eating or using unclean pillows. (From *Zhengzong*)
Shen Douyuan stated: For this type of sore, it is suitable to wash clean with a decoction made from locust tree branches, then grind Yanjiao (Tobacco Resin), Kufan (Calcined Alum), and Qingfen (Calomel) into fine powder, mix with cooked oil, and apply externally. (From *Qixuan*)
Feng Luzhan stated: This sore is caused by disharmonious Qi of the Zang-Fu organs rushing upward and toxic heat-blood pouring upwards. Children have insufficient Yin Qi and excess Yang fire, making them most susceptible. Internal administration of Lqiao (Forsythia Fruit), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root), Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb), Yuan Shen (Scrophularia Root), Chishao (Red Peony Root), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), and Niubangzi (Arctium Fruit) — agents that clear heat, detoxify, cool blood, and harmonize blood — is appropriate. Only after the toxic pathogen has slightly subsided should external medications be applied. One must not abruptly use cold/cold-natured topical applications to suppress the heat, as this may cause the heat-toxin to penetrate inward, leading to untreatable conditions. This is because children's Zang-Fu organs are delicate, and pathogens enter easily but exit with difficulty. (From *Jinnang*)
