王肯堂曰∶手指节间，结肿 赤，又名病茧，又名蛇节疔，又名钉节天蛇，又
名病 节，治与天蛇头同。（《准绳》）

李东垣曰∶蛇节疔生手指中节骨节，又名蛀节疔，绕指俱肿，其色或黄或紫，由
火毒凝结而成。
朱丹溪曰∶蛇眼疔生于指甲旁，夹角间，形似豆粒，色紫，半含半露，硬似铁
钉，乃火毒凝结而成。
王肯堂曰∶蛇背疔生指甲根后，形如半枣，色赤胖肿，乃火毒凝结而成。
陈实功曰∶体弱之人，手指节中，不红不热，肿如蝉腹，日久方痛，痛久方腐，
肿仍不消，此乃手少阴痰气凝滞而成。用蟾酥饼膏贴，渐作稀脓，近者一载，远者
三年，内服补剂，免变痨瘵之证。（《正宗》）
王肯堂曰∶鳅肚疔即中节疔。生中指节绝骨之处，由辛热风湿之毒，上干心经，
故发此毒，乃心经受证也。但中指通连五指，疔色紫黑者，其毒必恶，易于攻心，指
节里面色青黄，心一受毒，其人昏迷必死，其指必落，务用护心丹，时时呷之，以护
其心，再服蜡矾丸护膜，追疔夺命丹追疔为主。（《准绳》）
李东垣曰∶泥鳅疽生在手指，一指通肿，色紫形如泥鳅， 热痛连肘臂，由火毒凝结而成。
又曰∶蛇腹疔生十指中节里面，形如鱼肚，色赤疼痛，乃火毒凝结而成。
王肯堂说：手指关节之间，出现结块肿胀、发红，又叫做“病茧”，又叫做“蛇节疔”，又叫做“钉节天蛇”，又叫做“病节”，治疗方法与“天蛇头”相同。（出自《准绳》）

陈实功说：体质虚弱的人，手指关节中，不红也不热，肿胀像蝉的腹部，过了很久才疼痛，疼痛久了才溃烂，但肿胀仍然不消退，这是由手少阴心经的痰气凝滞而形成的。使用蟾酥饼膏贴敷，逐渐化为稀薄的脓液，近的需一年，远的需三年，同时内服补益剂，以免转变为虚劳（痨瘵）的病证。（出自《正宗》）
王肯堂说：鳅肚疔就是中节疔。生于中指关节处绝骨的位置，由辛热风湿之毒，上犯心经，所以发生这种毒疮，属于心经受邪的证候。但是中指连通五指，如果疔疮颜色紫黑，说明毒势凶恶，容易攻心，指节内部颜色青黄，一旦心脏受毒，人就会昏迷死亡，手指必然脱落，务必使用护心丹，时时含服，以保护心脏，再服用蜡矾丸保护心包膜，以追疔夺命丹为主来驱逐疔毒。（出自《准绳》）
李东垣说：泥鳅疽生在手指，一根手指整体肿胀，颜色紫暗，形状像泥鳅，发热疼痛牵连到肘部和手臂，是由火毒凝结而成的。
他又说：蛇腹疔生于十指中间关节的内侧，形状像鱼肚子，颜色红赤且疼痛，是由火毒凝结而成的。
Weng Kentang stated: Between the joints of the fingers, nodular swelling and redness occur. It is also known as "Bing Jian" (Disease Cocoon), "She Jie Ding" (Snake Joint Carbuncle), "Ding Jie Tian She" (Nail Joint Heavenly Snake), or "Bing Jie" (Disease Joint). Its treatment is the same as that for "Tian She Tou" (Heavenly Snake Head). (From *Zhun Sheng*)
Li Dongyuan stated: She Jie Ding (Snake Joint Carbuncle) arises at the middle joint of the fingers. It is also called "Zhu Jie Ding" (Moth-eaten Joint Carbuncle). The entire finger swells, with a color that may be yellow or purple, caused by the coagulation of Fire Toxin.
Zhu Danxi stated: She Yan Ding (Snake Eye Carbuncle) occurs beside the nail, in the angle between the nail and the skin. It resembles a bean, appears purplish, is half-contained and half-exposed, and feels hard like an iron nail. It is formed by the coagulation of Fire Toxin.
Weng Kentang stated: She Bei Ding (Snake Back Carbuncle) arises behind the root of the nail. It resembles half a jujube, with red and swollen flesh. It is caused by the coagulation of Fire Toxin.
Chen Shigong stated: In individuals with weak constitutions, the finger joints may not appear red or hot, but swell like the abdomen of a cicada. Pain develops only after a long time, and ulceration occurs only after prolonged pain, yet the swelling persists. This is caused by the stagnation of Phlegm-Qi in the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. Apply Chansu Bing Gao (Toad Venom Cake Paste) locally; pus will gradually become thin. Recovery may take one year for mild cases or up to three years for severe ones. Internally administer tonic formulas to prevent transformation into Lao Zhai (Consumption/Tuberculosis). (From *Zheng Zong*)
Weng Kentang stated: Qiu Du Ding (Loach Belly Carbuncle) is synonymous with Zhong Jie Ding (Middle Joint Carbuncle). It arises at the Jue Gu (absolute bone) location of the middle finger's joint. It is caused by the toxicity of acrid-heat and wind-dampness attacking the Heart Meridian upwards, thus manifesting as a syndrome of the Heart Meridian. Since the middle finger connects to all five fingers, if the carbuncle turns purple-black, the toxin is malignant and likely to attack the Heart. If the tissue inside the finger joint appears cyan-yellow, once the Heart receives the toxin, the patient will fall into coma and die, and the finger will inevitably fall off. One must use Hu Xin Dan (Heart-Protecting Pill), sipping it frequently to protect the Heart. Additionally, administer La Fan Wan (Beeswax and Alum Pill) to protect the pericardium membrane, focusing on Zhui Ding Duo Ming Dan (Carbuncle-Chasing Life-Snatching Pill) to expel the carbuncle toxin. Li Dongyuan stated: Ni Qiu Ju (Loach Abscess) occurs on the fingers, causing the entire finger to swell. It is purple in color and shaped like a loach. Heat and pain radiate to the elbow and arm. It is caused by the coagulation of Fire Toxin.
He further stated: She Fu Ding (Snake Belly Carbuncle) arises on the inner aspect of the middle joints of the ten fingers. It resembles a fish belly, is red in color and painful. It is caused by the coagulation of Fire Toxin.
