Facial Early Appearance of Smallpox: Explanation of the Bagua Orientation Diagram
The verse states: To observe smallpox, one must first distinguish the location. Eruptions in the Qian Palace indicate a definitely mild condition; eruptions in the Kan Palace are unfavorable; those in the Gen Palace carry three parts of severity; eruptions in the Zhen Palace, though potentially severe, have a fixed prognosis; early eruptions in the Xun Palace are necessarily severe; eruptions in the Li Palace carry ten parts of severity (maximum danger); those in the Kun Palace correspond to seven parts, and those in the Dui Palace to four parts. This secret method should be urgently communicated to others.
Eruptions appearing first in the Qian Palace will certainly present as mild cases; those in the Kan Palace are extremely dangerous and ominous; eruptions reported from the Gen Palace carry three parts of severity; eruptions from the Zhen Palace need not cause alarm. Eruptions in the Xun Palace involve nine parts separation [note: text ambiguity], while those in the Li Palace involve ten parts of severity; early reports from the Kun Palace indicate changes within a day or night; eruptions from the Dui Palace are auspicious yet harbor inauspicious elements. Thus, the favorable or unfavorable nature of smallpox is distinguished among the Eight Trigrams.
If the color in the Qian Palace (corresponding to the Large Intestine) is purple-red, it indicates solid excrement in the bowels, which is a favorable sign. (Note: Stool is not thin but obstructed.) If the color turns grayish-white with diarrhea flowing like water, it is definitely an ominous sign.
If the color in the Kan Palace (corresponding to Kidney Water) is bright purple, the lower back and spine will feel as if scalded by boiling oil. If the color is grayish-white without pus or blood, accompanied by teeth chattering and shivering, death is imminent.
The Gen Palace corresponds to the Stomach and should not appear red. A yellowish-white color is highly auspicious. If the color becomes purple, black, cyan, or red, it indicates rotting of the stomach and foul breath, leading to death.
The Zhen Palace corresponds to the Liver Meridian and should ideally show a greenish hue. A white color indicates Metal overcoming Wood (an inauspicious pattern). A purple-red color suggests frequent anger and irritability. Only when the color of the Life Palace is correct can medication be administered.
If the Xun Palace (corresponding to the Small Intestine) appears white, there may be urinary leakage or sinking sensation occurring three to five times in one night. (Note: "Ta" means sinking/collapsing.) If the eruption resembles red plum blossoms or characters, with dribbling urine, this indicates heat accumulation.
The Li Palace corresponds to Heart Fire, and the color should be red. If it turns purple-black, it indicates Water attacking Fire. If accompanied by swelling and ulceration of the feet (where the pustule base opens and fails to consolidate), even a divine physician would fail.
The secret of the Kun Palace belongs to the Gate of Vitality (Mingmen); life and death are revealed therein. Purple-black and dull colors are both unfavorable. This is a profound secret passed down orally and through heart-to-heart transmission.
The Dui Palace corresponds to Metal, whose natural color is white. If it appears red, it indicates excessive Fire. Regarding how to treat this condition, one must clearly understand impending throat choking and phlegm-wheezing.
The Central Wu-Ji Earth element presents a pale yellow color, indicating ease of treatment. If a cyan or black color appears, it indicates Wood insulting Earth (Wood overacting on Earth).
The inscription on the right reads: The subtleties of Yuanwei Bagua enter the realm of the divine, transmitted to upright persons and harmonious voices. When the time comes to encounter these immortal secrets, glory and wealth shall be endless.
