[Symptoms of Vertigo due to Summerheat-Dampness] During the hot season, with spontaneous sweating, feverish body, dirty complexion, coldness in the back, irritability, thirst with desire to drink, scanty and painful urination, and dizziness or vertigo of the head and eyes, this is vertigo caused by damp-heat. If during rainy and damp seasons, there is aversion to cold without fever, heavy and painful body, inability to turn over, absence of sweating with stiffness, spinning vertigo, and blurred vision, this is cold-damp [vertigo].
[Etiology of Vertigo due to Summerheat-Dampness] In midsummer when the climate prevails, the heat of heaven descends, and the dampness of earth ascends; if a person contracts these pathogens, it results in vertigo due to damp-heat. If there is excessive rain and dampness, and a person contracts it, as noted in the commentary on the *Classic*, internal reversal of dampness and stagnation of cold qi remaining in the Taiyang channel also cause vertigo. [Regarding pulse]: Excess and large pulses are rare. Deficient and slow pulses indicate cold; deficient and rapid pulses indicate heat.
[Treatment of Vertigo due to Summerheat-Dampness] For irritability, thirst with desire to drink, and a deficient yet rapid pulse, use Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction). For spontaneous sweating, irritability, and scanty, painful urination, use Huanglian Xiangru Yin (Coptis and Elsholtzia Decoction), mixed with Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder) and taken warm. If there is aversion to cold without fever, body pain with inability to turn over, and a slow pulse, use Qianghuo Shengshi Tang (Notopterygium Decoction for Overcoming Dampness) combined with Zhufu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction).

[Symptoms of Vertigo due to Dryness-Fire] Feverish body, irritability, thirst with desire to drink, restlessness at night, spinning vertigo, blacking out of vision, and scanty, painful urination constitute vertigo due to dryness-fire.
[Etiology of Vertigo due to Dryness-Fire] The *Classic* states that when Jueyin governs the year, if pathogenic factors prevail, tinnitus and tremulous vertigo occur. It also says that excessive Liver and Lung qi leads to forgetfulness and mental confusion... These are all cases of vertigo caused by the influence of Six Qi transformations. Additionally, seasonal heat invading the intestines and stomach, transmitting to the Zang-Fu organs, and rushing upward to the head and eyes causes spinning vertigo; this is...
[Pulse Diagnosis of Vertigo due to Dryness-Fire] A rapid and restless pulse on the left indicates Jueyin pathogenic excess; a rapid and restless pulse on the right indicates Lung heat vertigo; rapid pulses on both sides indicate excessive Liver and Lung qi.
A rapid and restless pulse on the right indicates dryness-fire damaging Qi; a rapid and restless pulse on the left indicates dryness-fire damaging Blood.
[Treatment of Vertigo due to Dryness-Fire] For a rapid and restless left pulse with Jueyang tremulous vertigo, use Chaihu Qinggan Yin (Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Decoction). For a rapid and restless right pulse with Lung heat rushing upward, use Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Decoction).
For a rapid and restless right pulse indicating excessive Liver and Lung qi, use Xieqing Banban Tang (Half-and-Half Decoction for Draining Green). For a rapid pulse on the right hand indicating dryness-fire damaging Qi, use Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction). For a rapid pulse on the left hand indicating dryness-fire damaging Blood, use Guishao Dahuang Tang (Angelica Sinensis, White Peony, and Rhubarb Decoction).

Qingfei Yin: See under Cough section.
