Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shengdihuang), Radix Rehmanniae Concocta (Shudihuang) [each 2 qian], Radix Astragali (Huangqi, 黄芪) [4 qian], Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian, 黄连) [5 fen], Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin, 黄芩), Cortex Phellodendri (Huangbai, 黄柏) [each 1 qian].
Yin deficiency with fire, failure of the "Ghost Gate" (sweat pores) to close, and night sweats are primarily treated by this formula.
Sweat pores are referred to as the "Ghost Gate." Night sweats refer to spontaneous sweating during sleep, attributed to Yin deficiency. The reason for this is that in individuals with Yin deficiency, when they fall asleep, the Yang Qi defending the exterior penetrates into the Yin aspect due to a gap, disturbing body fluids and causing loss of exterior consolidation, thus leading to sweat secretion. Upon waking, Yang Qi takes charge, and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) returns to the exterior; with the exterior consolidated, sweating stops. Therefore, if the Ghost Gate remains open, it will gradually cause loss of Po (Corporeal Soul). Treatment should simultaneously tonify True Yang, not merely discuss Yin deficiency. Currently, describing it as Yin deficiency with fire also includes symptoms such as red eyes, flushed face, dry mouth, dark urine, and rapid pulse. It is appropriate to use Danggui and the two types of Dihuang to nourish Yin, Huangqin, Huanglian, and Huangbai to drain fire, and to double the dosage of Huangqi to consolidate the exterior. However, for night sweats occurring after severe illness, blood loss, or postpartum, this constitutes a collapse of deficiency. Urgent treatment requires large doses of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (Fuzi, 附子), Danggui, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum (Lurong, 鹿茸), Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 白术), Fructus Schisandrae (Wuweizi, 五味子), Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (Suanzaoren, 酸枣仁), and Fructus Lycii (Gouqi, 枸杞) taken warm. If the Liu Huang Tang (Six Yellow Decoction) is used, death will follow immediately upon ingestion.
Poem: Danggui and six Huangs, Shengdi and Shudi, Lian, Bai, Qin, and Qi. Who formulated this? It must exist, yet cannot be duplicated.
(Combined with Ganlu Yin II)
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参), Poria (Fushen, 茯神), Radix Polygalae (Yuanzhi, 远志), Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (Bairen, 柏仁), Danggui, Succinum (Hupo, 琥珀), Resina Olibani (Ruxiang, 乳香), Suanzaoren, Huangqi, Dihuang, Wuweizi [each equal parts], Cinnabaris (Zhusha, 朱砂) [halved for coating].
Loss of Zhi (Will/Spirit) due to fright, palpitations and restlessness, chaotic dreams and insomnia, seminal emission and night sweats are primarily treated by this formula.
Being indifferent to fame clarifies one's aspirations; maintaining tranquility enables far-reaching goals. This is an effective method for treating heart conditions. Loss of Zhi due to fright leaves the inner mind unable to find peace. Thus, palpitations and insomnia occur, with chaotic dreams during sleep, night sweats, and seminal emission. For seminal emission, Wuweizi and Dihuang moisten and consolidate; for night sweats, Huangqi and Renshen tonify and astringe; for chaotic dreams and restless sleep, caused by unsettled Spirit and moving Fire, Bairen, Yuanzhi, and Fushen harmonize; for fright-induced palpitations and loss of Zhi, where Spirit is timid and Hun (Ethereal Soul) has departed, Ruxiang, Zhusha, and Hupo calm and anchor. In addition to taking these pills, one should sleep early and rise late, focus on internal visualization, simplify external affairs, occasionally burn incense and brew tea, play the lute, and view swords to dispel mental agitation. After several months of this practice, not only will the illness recede, but one will feel the vitality of Tianji (Heavenly Mechanism) active, desiring to debate minutiae with Creation itself. For sudden violent heart pain, irritability, fever, hematemesis, or hematochezia, this formula can be modified accordingly.
Poem: Ningzhi contains Renshen, Hupo, and Shen (Fushen); Yuan, Dangui, Zaoren, and Di are administered to those within the boudoir. Do not say the vermilion hue of Zhusha is merely cosmetic; the fragrance of Ruxiang surpasses that of Baizi Ren.
In cases of Spleen and Kidney deficiency failing to secure essence, including leukorrhea turbidity, menstrual dysuria, and vacuous sliding without consolidation, Tu Si Zi (Cuscutae Semen, 菟丝子), Shi Zao, Fructus Myristicae (Roukou, 肉蔻), Gubuzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, 故纸), Danggui, and Dihuang should regulate the Kidneys; Renshen, Fuzi, Baizhu, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Lotus Seed (Lianzi, 莲子), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao, 山药), and Wuweizi should benefit the Spleen; Fushen, Zhusha, and Yuanzhi should communicate between the Ministerial and Imperial fires; Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 沉香), Fuzi, and Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂) should ascend and descend Water and Fire. Then, sliding will become sealed and consolidated will flow freely, and essence will be cured. This is a modification of Zhang Jingyue's Guyin Jian (Solidify Yin Decoction) and Lingzhu Tusisi Wan (Poria, Atractylodes, and Cuscuta Pill). Having proven effective repeatedly, it is named Ganlu Yin (Sweet Dew Drink).
Poem: Rougui, Chenxiang, Lianzi, and Kouzhao possess heavenly fragrance; Baizhu, Gancao, Yuzhu, and Zhusha offer good medicinal taste. Dangui, Daohu, Guren, Fuzi, Dihuang, and Xian serve as old friends; Fa (hair-like fine details) and Shen (Spirit) transcend the elderly.
