Take half a jin (approx. 500g) each of fresh ginger (Shengjiang, 生姜) and scallion (Congbai, 葱白), decoct them in one hu (approx. 10 liters) of water to make a soup, and use this soup for fumigation according to the following method.
In the severe cold regions of the north, or in individuals with dense couli (skin pores and interstitial spaces), sweating is difficult to induce, and even when it occurs, the amount is scanty. In such cases, this method may be employed intermittently. This is because ginger and scallion can unblock the couli; fumigating with the soup facilitates the dispersal of exterior pathogens. It is akin to external allied forces in warfare. If sweating becomes excessive and uncontrollable, quickly grind raw Longgu (Fossilized Bones, 龙骨) and Muli (Oyster Shell, 牡蛎) into powder, mix with buckwheat flour or glutinous rice flour, and dust it onto the body. These four substances possess sticky and astringent properties, which can secure the body and prevent collapse of Zheng Qi (Vital Energy, 正气).
Select twenty jin (approx. 10 kg) of lean meat from a fat, tender female cow (Niu Rou, 牛肉). Boil it in running water until it disintegrates completely. Filter the residue out using a new cloth. Slowly simmer the clear juice over low heat until it thickens slightly, achieving an amber color. The patient should abstain from meat and eat bland food for one day prior. Dinner should not be too heavy. The patient sits still in a bright, windless room. Drink one cup of the meat soup, wait a short while, then drink another cup. Prepare a waste bucket and earthenware basin to collect vomitus and feces, and a porcelain bottle to collect urine. For diseases located in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner, 上焦), rapid ingestion is required to induce more vomiting. For diseases in the Middle and Lower Jiao, slow ingestion is required to induce more purging. The approach must be flexible and carefully weighed, stopping only when the expelled matter is completely clean. After the procedure, thirst will inevitably arise; do not give tea or water. Instead, have the patient sip the collected urine. If fatigue or muscle weakness occurs, first provide thin congee, then vegetable broth, followed by chicken and mutton. After recuperation for one to two months, spirit will naturally revive, and chronic ailments will be eliminated.
This method is also applicable to Ji Ju (Accumulations and Masses, 积聚) and Xia (Abdominal Masses, 瘕).
"Ji" refers to tangible accumulations caused by rich, fatty foods (Gao Liang, 膏粱). "Ju" refers to qi stagnations caused by worry and overthinking. When accumulation is dense and stagnation persists, it obstructs the flow of Qi and Blood (气血), transforming formless pathological factors into tangible masses. These masses take shape and reside in the convoluted areas of the intestines and stomach. Just as clapping hands produces sound and striking stones creates fire, the interaction of these elements creates their manifestation. How could small doses of pills or powders possibly break through their defenses?
The nutrient-rich beef juice permeates and harmonizes everywhere. Wherever it reaches, it promotes smoothness and benefit. It is like melting snow bringing forth water, where floating sand sinks and drifting wood flows eastward. Although foul matter may not be entirely expelled, the potential for recurrence (re-establishing the nest) is effectively nullified. Zhu Danxi stated: "Yellow cattle belong to Kun Earth, possessing the virtue of compliance, yet demonstrating strength through regulation; this is the function of the female cow." He further said: "The subtlety lies in drinking urine; it not only quenches thirst but also washes away residual filth." Those who deeply comprehend the profound principles of this method... Regarding claims that this prescription was obtained from a foreigner from the Western Regions, and that practicing it once or twice after middle age can dispel disease and prolong life—where did such talk come from?
