[On Sudden Collapse, Sudden Death from Heart Injury, Agonizing Abdominal Pain, Evil Invasion, Phlegm Obstruction, and Heartache]
The Heavenly Master said: The so-called "Near Treatment Method" refers to the immediate treatment of sudden acute conditions. For example: sudden dizziness leading to collapse and loss of consciousness; sudden severe heart pain leading to sudden death; or sudden agonizing abdominal pain with cyanosis of the hands and feet, causing extreme suffering. These symptoms arrive as suddenly as wind and rain, and move swiftly like a galloping horse. They cannot be restrained for even a moment, nor can there be any delay; they must be treated immediately.
Sudden dizziness and collapse are caused either by evil invasion (Zhong E) or phlegm obstruction (Zhong Tan). However, these two conditions can actually be treated together. This is because only when the righteous Qi (Vital Energy) is deficient can one be invaded by evil; only when the Middle Qi (Central Vital Energy) is weak can one be confused by phlegm. Therefore, both conditions stem from Qi deficiency. Thus, by tonifying Qi, the righteous Qi will naturally return. One may also add herbs that resolve phlegm and drugs that expel pathogens, and all such prescriptions will yield results instantly. The prescription consists of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 5 qian, Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 qian, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber) 1 qian, Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) 1 qian, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 1 qian, and Bai Wei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix) 1 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Annotation: Named Xiao E Tang [Evil-Dispersing Decoction].) Recovery occurs upon ingestion. The brilliance of this formula lies in using more Qi-tonifying herbs than phlegm-resolving or pathogen-expelling ones. When the Middle Qi is strengthened within, the pathogenic factors dissipate without, making it unnecessary to worry about the rapid resolution of phlegm.
Sudden heart pain leading to death is either due to Cold or Fire. The method for treating Fire involves only two ingredients: Chao Zhi Zi (Fried Gardenia Fruit) 5 qian and Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 5 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Annotation: Named Zi Fen Ji Jiu Tang [Self-Burning Emergency Rescue Decoction].) Recovery occurs upon ingestion. For treating Cold, the dosage of medicinal materials must be increased significantly. The prescription consists of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 5 qian, Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1 qian, Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 qian, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 3 qian, Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) 1 liang, Shan Zhu Yu (Corni Fructus) 4 qian, and Liang Jiang (Galangal Rhizome) 1 qian, decocted in water and taken orally. (Annotation: Named Xiao Bing San [Ice-Melting Powder].) Both formulas have profound implications. The former treats excessive Fire by draining the Liver Wood, while the latter tonifies Kidney Qi to address severe Cold. Although the dosages differ, their miraculous efficacy is identical.
In cases of abdominal pain, if the pain becomes extreme at once, even turning the hands and feet blue, any delay in rescue will inevitably lead to immediate death. This is caused by direct invasion of Cold pathogens into the Kidney Meridian. The treatment method should urgently warm the Fire of the Ming Men (Gate of Life), and assist in warming the coldness of the Xin Bao (Pericardium), so that the pain is eliminated immediately and the cyanosis of the hands and feet resolves. The prescription consists of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 5 qian, Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) 5 qian, Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 qian, Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 1 qian, Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus) 5 fen, and Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 5 fen, decocted in water and taken orally for recovery. (Annotation: Named Jiu Teng Zhi Sheng Dan [Supreme Holy Pill for Saving from Pain].) The brilliance of this formula lies in tonifying Fire within True Yin and dispelling Cold within True Yin. Naturally, the pathogens are expelled and the pain stops, preventing the condition from attacking the Heart upwards or the Liver centrally. This Near Treatment Method should be kept in mind during daily practice to avoid panic during emergencies, which could otherwise cost lives.
Master Hua said: I also have transmitted prescriptions, but they differ. For treating Evil Invasion and Phlegm Obstruction: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 3 qian, Fu Ling (Poria) 5 qian, Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) 3 qian, Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 qian. For patients with deficiency, increase Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) to 1 liang. Decoct in water and take orally for revival. (Annotation: Named Jie E Xian Dan [Evil-Resolving Immortal Pill].)
For treating Heartache: Highly effective for cases with Fire. Use Guan Zhong (Dryopteridis Crassirhizoma Rhizoma) 3 qian, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 3 qian, Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) 3 qian, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 2 qian. Decoct in water and take orally. (Annotation: Named Zhi Tong Xian Dan [Pain-Relieving Immortal Pill].) Pain is relieved after one dose.
