Cui Shi Si Hua Liu Xue (Cui’s Four Flowers Six Points): Treats various conditions such as Five Labors and Seven Injuries, Qi and Blood deficiency, bone-steaming tidal fever, cough with phlegm and wheezing, five-palm heat, fatigue and weakness of the four limbs, etc.
First session, take two points: Have the patient stand upright. Take a waxed rope about 3-4 chi long to prevent stretching. Align the rope end with the big toe of the male's left foot or female's right foot. Follow the sole to the heel, press down, then pull the rope backward along the calf muscle up to the knee crease, and cut. Have the patient sit upright, untie hair to expose the midline of the head. Take one end of the cut rope, align with the tip of the nose, press firmly, and draw the rope upward along the head, neck, and back muscle line until the end. Mark with ink. This is not a moxa point. Take another small rope, have the patient close their mouth, fold the rope in half, align with the root of the nasal bridge, split left and right to the corners of the mouth forming a 'Ren' (人) character shape, and cut. Straighten this rope, find its midpoint, place it vertically on the previously marked spinal point. Mark the ends of the rope on both sides. These are the two points to be moxaed in the first session, named "Huan Men" (Patient Gate).
If the woman's foot is too small for this method, use the right arm: mark the Jianyu (LI15) point, extend the arm, align the rope downward to the middle finger tip, and cut, using this to substitute for measuring the foot, which is more appropriate.
Second session, take two points: Have the patient sit upright, slightly retract arms. Take a waxed rope, wrap around the back of the neck forward to hang double, aligning the head with the tip of Jiwei (CV15). Cut both ends together. Flip the rope ends backward, place the midpoint of the rope exactly on the Adam's apple (Jiehou). Let the rope ends hang down between the vertebrae and mark with ink. This is not a moxa point. Take a small rope, have the patient close their mouth, measure horizontally across the lips, cut, and place horizontally on the spinal mark as before. Mark the ends with ink. These are the second moxa points, i.e., the left and right points of the Four Flowers. The previous four points are moxaed simultaneously. Start with 7 Zhuang (moxa cones), or 14, 21, up to 100 Zhuang is excellent. Wait until the moxa sore is about to heal or blisters appear, then moxa the next two points according to the following method.
Third session, take two points: Use the shorter rope from the second session (measuring the mouth). Place it vertically centered on the second session's spinal mark, ensuring alignment. Mark the ends with ink. These are the moxa points, i.e., the upper and lower points of the Four Flowers.
The above six points should be moxaed on Wu days (noon/fire days). For the next 100 days, avoid sexual activity and excessive thinking, eat regularly, adapt to cold and heat, and care for the body properly. If still not healed after the sores heal, repeat the previous method; there will be no failure. Hence it is said to accumulate moxibustion up to 100 Zhuang. However, the two points on the spine should not be moxaed excessively; only 3-5 Zhuang per session is advisable, otherwise, it may cause fatigue. When moxaing these six points, it is also beneficial to moxa Zusanli (ST36) to drain fire.
Commentary: The previous method moxaes four points beside the spine; the upper two are near Xinshu (BL15) at the 5th thoracic vertebra, and the lower two are near Ganshu (BL18) at the 9th thoracic vertebra. Cui did not know the acupoint names but established this measurement method to make it easy to understand. However, consulting the spinal acupoint rules, the Bladder Meridian lines should be 2 cun lateral to the spine to hit the correct channel and achieve efficacy. One should examine this carefully.
Another method: Find the fleshy area slightly anterior to the base of the thumb on the palm, near the inner crease, half a cun outward, opposite to Hegu (LI4) of the Large Intestine Meridian. Press to find extreme soreness; this is the point. Moxa this point and Changqiang (GV1) with 7 Zhuang each; it is very effective.
Chuan Shi Lao (Transmitted Corpse Tuberculosis/Consumption)
First generation: Worm damages the Heart. Moxa Xinshu (BL15) and points above and below like the Four Flower pattern. Second generation: Moxa Feishu (BL13) four points as before. Third generation: Moxa Ganshu (BL18) four points as before. Fourth generation: Moxa Yinsu (BL32? *Text says Yinshu, likely referring to a specific point for kidney/liver or typo for Ganshu/Shenshu context, kept as Yinshu*) four points as before. Fifth generation: Moxa Shenshu (BL23) four points as before. Sixth generation: Moxa Sanjiaoshu (BL22) four points as before.
This condition alternates mild and severe symptoms every five days. Moxa when the "worm" is drunk during the mild phase. Also recite the Lotus Sutra and Pu'an Mantra to suppress it.
One method: Moxa Yaoyan (Waist Eye) points. Have the patient lie flat, mark two points in the depression of both waist eyes with a pen, moxa 7 Zhuang each. This point is not in standard texts but is essential for home use; it has been tested repeatedly and treats deep-seated difficult tuberculosis. On Guihai day, between the second and third watch, have the patient lie flat and moxa 3 Zhuang.
There are cases of Chuan Shi Lao leading to family extinction. This disease arises from alternating chills and fever, causing blood stasis and Qi stagnation transforming into worms that consume internal organs, leading to transmission. It is hard to treat with herbs alone; only moxibustion can attack it. On Guihai day, late at night when spirits gather, do not let others know. Have the patient remove lower garments, raise arms slightly backward. There will be slight depressions on both sides of the waist, called Guiyan (Ghost Eye) points, commonly known as Waist Eyes. Stand upright, mark with ink, then lie face down on the bed. Moxa with small cones, 7, 9, or 11 Zhuang is best. The worm will be expelled through vomiting or diarrhea; burn and discard it far away to avoid infection. This is easier and more effective than the Four Flowers points. (Point is 3 cun below Shenshu, 1.5 cun lateral to the spine, press to feel depression).
One method: To expel tuberculosis worms, moxa 7 Zhuang each on the point above the 3rd thoracic vertebra and Gaohuang (BL43). Then regulate diet before administering drugs to expel worms.
