During the first childbirth, it is most taboo to ask whether the baby is male or female. This is to avoid the leakage of Qi due to words, or the stirring of anger (emotional disturbance) due to love or hatred [regarding gender], as both are prone to causing disease. Even if daughters are born consecutively, this is a common human circumstance.
Those who are fathers-in-law, mothers-in-law, and husbands should only use comforting words to soothe the woman. They must absolutely not sigh or lament, so as not to cause the woman to harbor resentment, leading to illness or even death. If one abandons or drowns a child because she is female, one will surely receive retribution in the form of extinction of one's lineage. One must cultivate virtue and await destiny.
