Infants should not be overfed during breastfeeding, as excessive feeding leads to fullness and overflow, resulting in vomiting. If the infant is overfed, allowing them to suckle an empty breast can resolve the issue. For initial breastfeeding, residual old milk must first be squeezed out and discarded before offering the breast. In summer, failing to remove hot milk may cause the infant to vomit; in winter, failing to remove cold milk may induce coughing. When breastfeeding at night, one must use an arm to support the infant's head, keeping the breast level with the infant's head, so that the infant does not choke. When the mother feels sleepy, she should stop breastfeeding, lest the infant fall into a deep sleep unaware of satiety, leading to vomiting. If the mother is pregnant, breastfeeding may cause the infant to suffer from *Taihuang* (Neonatal Jaundice); if the mother is heavily intoxicated, it may cause *Jingre* (Febrile Convulsions); if the mother has overeaten, it may cause *Chuanji* (Rapid Breathing/Asthma); if the mother has engaged in sexual intercourse, it may cause *Ganshou* (Malnutrition/Emaciation); if the mother is extremely angry, it may cause *Diankuang* (Mania/Psychosis); if the mother has just vomited, it may cause *Xulei* (Weakness/Emaciation). Furthermore, in extreme summer heat, if the mother breastfeeds immediately after bathing, the infant may develop dysentery due to heat-toxin; in such cases, the milk must be rubbed and warmed for a long time before breastfeeding. Additionally, food should not be given immediately after breastfeeding, nor should breastfeeding occur immediately after eating; simultaneous intake makes digestion difficult, causing stagnation in the chest and pain, often leading to *Piji* (Masses), *Gan* syndrome, or *Jizhi* (Accumulations). If parents engage in intercourse while the infant is nearby and wakes up crying, breastfeeding should not be administered immediately, as the "Qi-milk" (milk influenced by physiological and emotional states) is unsettled, which may harm the infant. One must wait until calm has been restored before breastfeeding. Moreover, when an infant cries normally, one should not immediately pick them up to feed upon hearing the cry; allowing the infant to cry occasionally helps dissipate heat-toxins from the fetal period and resolves fetal fright. Within the first month, this practice can prevent conditions such as *Chongshe* (Double Tongue), *Mushe* (Wooden Tongue), *Koujin* (Trismus), *Taifeng* (Fetal Wind), and *Tai re* (Fetal Heat).
For newborns whose lanugo has not yet been shaved, avoiding hats allows them to avoid wind-cold invasion from childhood onwards, preventing chronic nasal congestion and rhinorrhea. One must not wrap the infant with oily hands. In spring, covering the head and wrapping the feet is contraindicated; in summer, drinking cold water and eating raw/cold foods are contraindicated; in winter, heating clothes with fire is contraindicated. Regarding diet, infants have vigorous Qi and Blood, and food digests easily, so there is no fixed schedule for feeding. However, their gastrointestinal tract is still fragile and narrow, so milk should be the primary sustenance. Solid foods like cakes and pastries should only be introduced after age three, and meat/fish after age five, ensuring lifelong health free from Spleen and Stomach disorders. Thick, sticky, dry, hard foods, including all fish, meat, fruits, wet dough, roasted, stewed, fried, or pan-fried items that generate heat and are hard to digest, should be strictly prohibited. Ignorant mothers, fearing the infant's crying, give everything they eat, accumulating stubborn diseases, regretting too late. As the saying goes: "To cherish the child, cherish their diet; eat warm, not cold; eat soft, not hard; eat little, not much." This is truly a wonderful method. At night, do not let the infant sleep on an adult's arm; instead, use a small pillow filled with mung beans, *Tongcao* (Akebiae Caulis), *Dengxincao* (Junci Medulla), or chrysanthemum flowers. Place it near the mother's side. Strictly avoid letting the mother's breath blow on the infant's fontanelle, which may induce wind diseases. Coverings should leave the infant's head and face exposed; constant supine positioning may lead to惊疾 (Palpitations/Fright disorders), so the position must be changed frequently. Infant clothing should be made from old pants and jackets of elderly people (70-80 years old), transformed into infant garments. The "True Qi" nourishes mutually, promoting longevity and health. Wealthy families should avoid using new silk, satin, or new cotton-padded coats for infants. Excessive warmth weakens bones and muscles, making the infant prone to illness and diminishing fortune. Holding the infant should involve exposure to ground Qi to strengthen the skin. On warm days, holding the infant outdoors exposes them to wind and sunlight, strengthening Qi and Blood to resist wind and cold. Vertical holding of the head during sleep or carrying is contraindicated, as it may induce *Jingfeng* (Convulsive Disorders). Ten methods for nurturing children are essential: 1. Keep the back warm; 2. Keep the abdomen warm; 3. Keep the feet warm; 4. Keep the head cool; 5. Keep the chest and heart cool; 6. Avoid exposing the infant to strange objects; 7. Keep the Spleen and Stomach warm; 8. Do not breastfeed while the infant is still crying; 9. Do not administer *Qingfen* (Calomel) or *Zhusha* (Cinnabar); 10. Limit bathing. By practicing these, one need not worry about the infant failing to reach the gate of benevolence and longevity.
