(Note: Vitiligo)
The *Neijing* states: Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) enters together with the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel, circulates through the Shu points of various meridians, and disperses between the muscle layers. If its pathway is obstructed, it causes muscles to ulcerate and form sores; if Wei Qi stagnates and fails to circulate, it results in insensitivity of the flesh. Li Feng (a fierce, terrifying malignant disease, commonly known as Leprosy or Elephantiasis), arises from contracting killing qi from heaven and earth.
Nevertheless, such diseases invariably stem from excessive desires and overwork, leading to Qi and Blood stagnation transforming into heat; or from sweating while failing to avoid wind pathogens and cold-dampness, causing dampness to accumulate and heat to steam. Externally, this manifests as rotting and ulceration of the skin; internally, it generates parasites/worms. If the pathogen attacks the Liver, eyebrows fall out; if it attacks the Lungs, the nose collapses; if it attacks the Spleen, the voice changes; if it attacks the Kidneys, deafness occurs; if it attacks the Heart, perforation of the soles of the feet leads to death. Occasionally, transmission causes the disease, but there must be internal accumulation of wind-dampness and stagnant heat for infection to occur. The *Qianjin Fang* attributes this to karmic retribution. The pulse is often floating and large. Treatment should initially involve taking Fangfeng Tongsheng San (see Stroke section), added with Kushen (Sophora Root), Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome), and Chantui (Cicada Slough), taken for one hundred doses, aiming to induce frequent foul-smelling sweat and mild laxation. Subsequently, Gouti San (see Stroke section) should be used to induce vomiting to expel fishy saliva and filth. Externally, wash with Qizhen Tang, followed by long-term administration of the main prescription pills. It is crucial to abstain from rich flavors, Five Pungent Spices (Allium species), salt, and soy sauce, maintain a clear mind, and cut off desires. Only one or two out of ten may recover.
Main Prescription: Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 1 jin), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Canxizi (Xanthii Fructus), Humaizi (Sesami Fructum, half raw, half roasted), Zaojiaoci (Gleditsiae Spina, each 10 liang); Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus), Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix, each 3 liang); Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 1.5 liang); Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Huangjingzi (Vitex Negundo Fructus, each 1 liang, powdered). Powder the above herbs. Prepare a paste by crushing Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) and decocting (see preparation method). Mix with the powder to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 50 pills per dose, with tea or wine as desired, three times daily.
Zuixian San: For Wind Disease where the pathogen is located superiorly, manifesting as generalized urticaria, itching, and numbness.
Formula: Humaizi (Sesami Fructum), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus, each 1 liang); Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Baijili (Tribuli Fructus), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix, each 5 qian).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Add 7 fen of Qingfen (Calomelas) to every 1 liang of the mixture. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with tea water, once at morning, noon, and evening. After five to seven days, foul yellow saliva will first emerge from the teeth gaps, accompanied by whole-body pain and a dizzy, drunken sensation. Subsequently, pus, blood, and foul gas will be discharged via stool, eliminating the root of the disease. (During this period, only consume plain congee and boiled vegetables.)
Tongtian Zaizao San: For Wind Disease where the pathogen is located inferiorly, characterized by internal excess heat obstruction.
Formula: Yujin (Curcumae Radix, 1.5 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, steamed with wine), Zaojiaoci (Gleditsiae Spina, 1 liang, stir-fried), BaiChou (Strychni Semen, head powder only, 6.5 qian, raw).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Take 5 qian per dose. Before sunrise, face east, and take with non-ash wine, drinking as much as possible. At night, black-headed small worms will be discharged; in mild cases, the discharge resembles fish intestines and filth. Avoid meat, seafood, and rich flavors. Even if the disease recurs after six months due to violation of dietary restrictions, it becomes incurable.
Qizhen Tang: For bathing in Wind Disease.
Formula: Qiai (Artemisia Argyi Herba), Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, vine), Canxizi (Xanthii Fructus), Sangtiao (Mori Ramulus), Taotiao (Persicae Ramulus), Liutiao (Salicis Ramulus, three strips, crushed).
Usage: Decoct the herbs. Use one bucket of water, add 0.5 jin of stir-fried salt. Bathe every other day (in a sealed room surrounded by mats to retain warmth and induce sweating; exit only after the body dries).
Shenxiao Diyifang: For treating Li Feng malignant disease. Take Sangzhihui (Ash of Mulberry Twig, 1 dou), pour hot water over it to extract the juice, and wash the head and face once daily. Then, use Black Bean and Mung Bean slurry with hot water for bathing every three days. Internally, take Bianbaiye (Platycladi Cacumen, steamed and sun-dried) and Gan Baijiaoxiang (Dry White Resin, i.e., Maple Resin, equal parts), powder them finely, mix with water to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 7 pills per dose with warm water, three times daily.
Simple Prescription: For Elephas (Leprosy).
Soak Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 5 jin, fresh and white) in 3 dou of good wine for thirty days, and drink frequently.
Alternatively, dry the Kushen, powder it, or make water pills, or decoct it sequentially for oral administration.
Another Formula: Process Bianbaiye (Platycladi Cacumen) through nine steaming and nine sun-drying cycles, powder it, mix with honey to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 30 pills per dose with plain water, three times daily.
Another Formula: Remove the heart of Tiantandong (Asparagi Radix), mix with wine, steam, and pound into a paste. Take 2–3 qian per dose with wine. Long-term use promotes longevity.
Another Method: To kill Li Feng worms. Grind Mingliuhuang (Sublimated Sulphur) finely, soak in wine overnight, and drink the clear juice on an empty stomach. Add more sulphur to the wine the next day and drink the juice again. Soaking Dafengzi (Chaulmoogra Seed) together is particularly effective.
Another Method: For various wind-induced urticaria and vitiligo. Use processed Canxizi (Xanthii Fructus) pills.
Another Method: To induce sweating for all types of wind. Use two methods involving Zi Bei Fu Ping (Heterosiphonella Herba) (see Simple Prescriptions for Stroke).
