All injuries caused by knives, axes, or other sharp tools.
Main Formula (for making an ointment): Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishaoyao), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), [Note: Original text has "Huang", likely referring to Huangqin or Huangqi; context suggests heat-clearing herbs], Moutan Cortex (Mudanpi), Lycii Cortex (Digupi), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), Mori Cortex Sangbaipi (each 1.5 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Bupleuri Radix Ma Li Shao (use leaves, charred, each 1 qian), Momordicae Semen Mumuzi (3 seeds, shell removed). If tendons are severed, add Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong) and Dipsaci Radix (Xuduan), each 2 qian.
Take the above herbs and two liang of Tung Oil (Tongyou), decoct until the herbs are scorched, strain to remove dregs, return the oil to the pot and heat it. Add white tender Pine Rosin (Songxiang, 1 liang) and Yellow Beeswax (Huangla, 1 liang). Decoct over low fire, stirring frequently with a willow twig until uniform. Pour into water and pull until white. Separately grind Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrh (Moyao), and Litharge (Huandan - genuine, soaked, levigated, ground; each 7 qian). Knead these powders into the ointment by hand, place in a bowl, cover well, and cure in water for seven days, changing the water daily. For knife or axe wounds, take an appropriate amount of ointment based on wound size, fill the wound cavity, protect with white paper, and pain will cease. Change once a day. On the fifth day, to promote tissue regeneration and close the wound, add 0.5 qian of Dragon Bone powder (Longgu) to the ointment. For soft tissue injuries only, apply using oil-paper patches.
Stop-Bleeding Powder: Indicated for continuous bleeding from knife or axe wounds. Alternatively, add Calcined Alumen (Duanshi, weathered) and Starch (Dianfen), each 1 liang; exclude Wumingyi and Wubeizi. Dragon Bone (Longgu, 3 qian), Wumingyi (1 liang), Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrh (Moyao), each 2 qian; Chinese Gall (Wubeizi, 2 liang, half raw half stir-fried); Alum (Baifan, 1 liang, half raw half calcined). Grind each herb into fine powder, mix uniformly, and sprinkle onto the wound. It prevents suppuration, protects against wind pathogenic factors, stops pain, and promotes tissue regeneration.
Flesh-Growing Powder: Treats traumatic injuries (Jinchuang) to stop bleeding, relieve pain, regenerate flesh, and close wounds. Internal use: Burn 2 cun of the injured woman's girdle to ash, administer with wine. External use: Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrh (Moyao), Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Sanqi), Elephant Skin (Xiangpi), Dragon Bone (Longgu), Levigated Lead Monoxide (Feidan), Camptotheca Fruit (Ercha), Gypsum Fibrosum (Ruanshigao - processed, levigated). Grind all to extremely fine powder, mix in equal parts, and sprinkle on the wound.
Simple Prescription: For extracting arrowheads. Huashiyshi (Flower Porphyry Stone - calcinated seven times), grind fine, sprinkle on the wound; the arrowhead will naturally emerge from the surrounding tissue.
Yinianjin: Leaves of Rosa laevigata (Jinyingye), young stems of Boehmeria nivea (Nen Zhutou), each 2 liang; Mulberry Leaves (Sangye), 1 liang. Pound and apply externally. Or, grind into powder for future use during the cloudy days of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Knife/Axe Wounds: Podocarpium Resin (Jiangzhenxiang), Chinese Gall (Wubeizi), Copper Dust (Tongmo), mix in equal parts, grind uniformly, and apply.
Another Method: Dry mulberry leaves, grind into powder, then pound into juice for topical application. Applying weathered alum mixed with mulberry sap is also effective.
Another Method: Place weathered alum inside a cow's gallbladder collected in the twelfth lunar month, dry in shade, grind, and apply. Effective even for crushed heads, or apply weathered alum mixed with wheat flour.
Another Method: Chew dried summercypress spikes (Xiakucao) thoroughly and apply. Or apply Polygonati Rhizoma powder (Baiji), or the yellow skin from inside a chicken gizzard, baked and ground, then applied.
Continuous Bleeding: Chew Sanqi, grind Huashiyshi, grind Wubeizi, or pound wild Boehmeria leaves; use as needed.
Wound not penetrating the peritoneum: Frankincense (Ruxiang), Myrrh (Moyao), each 1 qian, grind fine. Mix with urine and hot wine (half cup each) for oral administration (external application also available).
Severe injury but vital qi remains: Pound scallion whites (Congbai), stir-fry until hot, apply extensively to the wound. Replace when cool; pain will cease.
Pain Relief: Polygoni Citrini Herba (Liujinu) ground into powder, mixed with rice porridge liquid for application.
For any wound site, immediately sprinkle fried salt to prevent putrefaction.
