于是迅速使用潞党参(Codonopsis Radix)、山药(Dioscoreae Rhizoma)、茯苓(Poria)、炙甘草(Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum with Honey)、白术(Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma)、橘白(Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Album)、苏子(Perillae Fructus)、莲子(Nelumbinis Semen)、红枣(Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus)、煨姜(Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum)和粳米(Oryza Sativa Germen)煎煮汤剂。
先用苦味药物以降逆,处方:山栀(Gardeniae Fructus)、羚羊角(Saigae Tataricae Cornu)、竹茹(Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam)、旋复花(Inulae Flos)、半夏曲(Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparate)、柿霜(Diospyros Fructus Crusta)。
[Case 1]
An uncle-type patient, having inhaled turbid pathogenic factors in late autumn, suffered from incessant vomiting. Initially, Huo Xiang Zheng Qi San (Patchouli and Magnolia Decoction) was administered, but the medicine was vomited immediately upon ingestion. Subsequently, fever, coldness of the feet, dark complexion, and sunken eye sockets appeared. Later, Dao Tan Wen Wei Yin (Phlegm-Draining and Stomach-Warming Decoction) was tried, yet nausea and vomiting persisted, preventing food intake. The pulse was found to be weak and lacking spirit. It was concluded that this indicated extreme deficiency of the Middle Jiao (Spleen and Stomach). A decoction was rapidly prepared using Codonopsis Radix (Luparen), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao), Poria (Fuling), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum with Honey (Zhigancao), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Album (Jubai), Perillae Fructus (Suzi), Nelumbinis Semen (Lianzi), Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus (Hongzao), Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum (Weijiang), and Oryza Sativa Germen (Jingmi). The patient was given small amounts frequently. Remarkably, vomiting ceased, and the desire for porridge emerged. After adjusting a few herbs in subsequent prescriptions, the patient recovered through regulation.
[Case 2]
An elderly woman surnamed Li developed alternating chills and fever followed by vomiting due to lower back pain. She exhibited sweating and aversion to cold. The pulses at the Cun (inch) and Guan (bar) positions were hidden/faint, while the Chi (cubit) positions were rapid and active. Considering her advanced age, inability to retain food and fluids, excessive vomiting damaging stomach qi first, and the absence of Cun and Guan pulses indicating deficient yang, it was deduced that her feet would likely be cold at times, explaining the sweating and aversion to cold. She reported coldness extending from her calves to her knees. Therefore, Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum juice was administered hot, which stopped the vomiting. Immediately after, rice soup was given, causing the right pulse to slightly rise. Consequently, Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction) was prescribed, resulting in the normalization of both pulse and symptoms.
[Case 3]
A male relative presented with chest pain, reduced appetite, and regurgitation of acid, caused by rebellious Liver qi and flooding of turbid yin. A powder was made from Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo), Aurantii Fructus (Zhiqiao), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Qingpi), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), and Poria (Fuling). This was taken twice daily on an empty stomach, washed down with water infused with Citrus reticulata peel (Jinju pi). The treatment was effective.
[Case 4]
Patient Xia presented with surging pulses at both Cun positions and wiry-slippery pulses at both Guan positions. Symptoms included rebellious vomiting, tinnitus, dry mouth, dizziness, and continuous leukorrhea. The pattern was identified as Disharmony between Liver and Stomach. The prescription consisted of Evodiae Fructus (stir-fried with Coptidis Rhizoma juice), raw Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Pinelliae Rhizoma (stir-fried with green salt), Poria (Fuling), Perillae Fructus (Suzi), Aurantii Fructus (Zhiqiao), and Benincasae Exocarpium (Gualu shuang). After three doses, symptoms subsided.
[Case 5]
Patient Li presented with a surging pulse that beat against the finger, dry mouth, frequent coughing, vomiting of clear fluid after meals, head tremors/dizziness, and palpitations. This was attributed to labor injuring yang; yang transformation generated internal wind, which rushed upward to cloud the clear orifices. Wind movement caused water surging; stomach deficiency allowed Liver wood to overact, leading to incessant vomiting and dizziness. Water retention in the diaphragm caused palpitations; lack of fluid ascent caused dry mouth; failure of qi to descend led to constipation. Treatment initially focused on harmonizing yang and descending rebellion. The formula included Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Chrysanthemi Flos (Ganju, stir-fried), Mori Folium (Dongsangye), Poria (Fuling), Armeniacae Semium Amarum (Xingren), Perillae Fructus (Suzi, all stir-fried and ground), Ostreae Concha (Muli), Spongia (Haifushi), Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam (Danzhuru), and Peucedani Radix (Qianhu). After three doses, symptoms resolved, and the pulse became more contained. The fatigue indicated that the fire-wind rebellious trend had been checked. Ganju and Dongsangye were removed, and Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao), Poria cum Radice (Fushen), Trichosanthis Fructus (Gualou), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), and Codonopsis Radix (Luparen) were added to harmonize Liver and Stomach and clear phlegm-fire. The patient subsequently recovered.
[Case 6]
A female relative presented with emotional depression, dizziness, flushed cheeks, immediate vomiting after eating in early summer, a weak-small pulse, and irregular menstruation. The cause was Liver-Gallbladder fire and wind invading the Stomach. The pathology progressed rapidly without transmission to other stages. Due to stomach deficiency, hiccups occurred; Wood qi overacted on Earth. Over time, the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) lost nourishment, collateral vessels were damaged, and bleeding occurred internally. Since the Chong Mai is the Sea of Blood and belongs to the Yangming channel, bitter herbs were first used to descend rebellion. The formula included Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi), Saigae Tataricae Cornu (Lingyangjiao), Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam (Zhuru), Inulae Flos (Xuanfuhua), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparate (Banxia qu), and Diospyros Fructus Crusta (Shishuang). After three to four doses, dizziness and vomiting stopped. Saigae Tataricae Cornu and Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparate were removed, and Asini Corii Colla (Ejiao, melted separately and mixed in), Moutan Cortex (Danpi), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao), Poria (Fuling), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) were added to nourish and regulate the Liver and Stomach, restoring regular menstruation.
