(Condition) Cured. Therefore, this syndrome cannot resolve on its own. When deficiency occurs, wind-pathogen prevails, and the true Qi is further depleted. As the Classics state: "When menstruation does not come, it is due to the closure of the Bao Mai (Uterine Vessels)." The Bao Mai belongs to the Heart and connects to the Bao Zhong (Uterus). Now, with Qi rushing upward and pressing, the Heart Qi cannot descend and communicate smoothly, hence menstruation does not come. First, administer agents that descend and clear Heart Fire; subsequently, administer Wu Bu Wan (Five Tonics Pill) from the *Ju Fang* (Prescriptions of the Imperial Medical Bureau); finally, use Weisheng Tang (Health Preservation Decoction) to regulate the Spleen, nourish Blood, and tonify Qi.
Kelian Wan (Toosendan Fruit Pill) treats leukorrhea (red and white vaginal discharge) in women.
*Kelian* (Toosendan Fructus, crushed and soaked in wine), *Huixiang* (Foeniculum Vulgare Fruit, stir-fried), *Danggui* (Angelica Sinensis Radix).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with wine paste to make pills, size of *Tongzi* (Chinese toon seeds). Take 30-50 pills per dose, with warm wine on an empty stomach. For pain in the lower back and legs, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) 4 liang, add *Qianghuo* (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1 liang each.
Weisheng Tang (Health Preservation Decoction)
*Danggui* (Angelica Sinensis Radix), *Baishaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba, each 3 liang), *Huangqi* (Astragali Radix, 3 liang), *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang).
Cut the above herbs into coarse pieces. Take 0.5 liang per dose, add 2 cups of water, decoct until 1 cup remains, remove dregs, and take warm on an empty stomach. If the patient is deficient, add *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix) 1 liang.
The so-called "Big Head Disease" (Plague-like swelling of the head) arises because the pathogenic heat in the Yangming channel is excessive, assisting the Ministerial Fire of the Shaoyin channel. The pathology mostly resides in the Shaoyang or Yangming channels, or may transmit to the Taiyang channel. Observe which part exhibits swelling and treat according to the affected channel. Damp-heat causes swelling; excess Wood causes pain. This pathogen manifests in the head, often appearing first around both ears, all of which are treated according to their respective diseases. Treatment should not employ drugs too rapidly. Rapid action may overshoot the disease site, leading to upper heat not being cleared while middle cold arises, inevitably harming life. This disease enters from the exterior to the interior and involves blood pathology. Moreover, since the head is affected by pathogens in a formless region, treatment should be slow initially and rapid later. "Slow initially" means the pathogen is in the upper jiao, adhering to formless regions. Once adhering to the formless, it can go anywhere. If heavy purgatives are used to rapidly evacuate, overshooting the disease site, the illness will not resolve. Even if mild drugs are used, if taken hastily—whether before meals or as a single large dose—the "slowness" principle is lost, and the medicine cannot eliminate the disease. One must slowly soak and permeate the formless pathogen. Alternatively, the nature, flavor, and form of the drugs should mimic symbolic meanings, always adhering to the principle of "slowness." "Rapid later" refers to when the mild agent has purged, and the pathogen has entered the middle, reaching the Yin regions and infecting substantial/form-giving areas. If not removed quickly, Yin fluids will be damaged. Ultimately, one must expel the guest pathogen, requiring rapid removal; this is "treating the guest with speed." Regarding "treating the host with slowness," it means Yang pathogens are in the upper Jiao and Yin pathogens are in the lower Jiao, each belonging to their home organ. If treated hastily, chaos cannot be resolved but will increase. Thus, treating the host requires slowness. "Treating the guest with speed" refers to Yin pathogens invading Yang regions and Yang pathogens invading Yin regions; these guest pathogens must be removed rapidly. For example, in Shaoyang-Yangming disease: Shaoyang pathogen manifests as swelling/pain around the ears; Yangming pathogen manifests as massive head/face swelling. First, use Huangqin Huanglian Gancao Tang (Scutellaria, Coptis, and Licorice Decoction), all stir-fried, decocted, and taken in small, frequent doses continuously. After finishing this dose, use Wei Dahuang (Baked Rheum Palmatum Radix) and Shuniuzi (Arctii Fructus, stir-fried on a new tile until fragrant), decoct, remove dregs, add Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), equal parts, and sip occasionally. Do not let food remain in the stomach. Aim for slight diarrhea. Once the pathogen is gone, resume the previous medication. If unresolved, repeat the sequence to achieve thorough bowel movement, at which point the pathogen ceases. If Yangming channel thirst occurs, add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum). If Shaoyang channel thirst occurs, add Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix). For Yangming channel meridian circulation, use Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). For Taiyang channel meridian circulation, use Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), etc.
Appendix on Leitou Feng (Thunderhead Wind)
Various medicines fail to treat Leitou Feng because they do not correspond to the syndrome. The head is governed by the Zhen Trigram. Zhen represents an open vessel facing upward. Therefore, I add He Ye (Nelumbinis Folium) to my prescriptions to symbolize the shape of Zhen. Its color is green, following the method of analogical imagery. One should decoct Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) from the *Ju Fang*.
*Shengma* (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), *Cangzhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 liang), *He Ye* (Nelumbinis Folium, one whole leaf).
Grind into fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, add 1 cup of water, decoct to 70%, and take warm after meals. Alternatively, burn one whole He Ye, grind finely, and mix with the decocted medicine; this is also excellent.
Appendix on Ear Theory
It is said that the ear is not singular. In terms of orifices, it corresponds to Water. In terms of sound, it corresponds to Metal. In terms of meridians, the Hand-Shaoyang and Foot-Shaoyang converge there. Deafness originating internally is primarily related to the Kidney. Impediment to sound entering from externally is related to the Meridians. Sounds may resemble cicadas, bells, or fire burning, each manifesting differently according to the channel. One must carefully distinguish deficiency and excess. For instance, deafness is attributed to the Kidney. Why treat the Lung? The Lung governs sound. Nasal congestion is attributed to the Lung. Why treat the Heart? The Heart governs smell. Extending this logic, all originate from the reception of Qi. The Kidney receives Qi at Si hour, the Heart at Hai hour, the Liver at Shen hour, and the Lung at Yin hour. The Spleen prospers during the four seasons. This method constitutes the Way of Longevity.
