(Note: Qi acupoints refer to the 365 acupoints throughout the body, which are sites where Qi and blood vessels flow and circulate. Acupuncture or moxibustion can be applied at these points for treatment, hence they are called "Qi acupoints".)
The Yellow Emperor asked: I have heard that there are 365 Qi acupoints corresponding to the days of a year, but I do not know their specific locations. I wish to hear them explained in detail. ... Qibo bowed twice and rose, saying: Please allow me to explain. When pain is felt as if the back and heart are pulling each other, the treated acupoints are Tiantu (RN22), the point below the tenth thoracic vertebra, and Shangji (Zhongwan, RN12). (Tiantu is located four cun below the laryngeal prominence in the neck, in the depression; it is the meeting point of the Yin Linking Vessel and the Conception Vessel. Needling should be shallow; insertion depth is one cun, retention time is seven breaths, and moxibustion is three moxa cones. In the current editions of *Jia Yi Jing* and *Jing Mai Liu Zhu Kong Xue Tu Jing*, no acupoint is recorded below the tenth thoracic vertebra on the spine, suggesting it might be the seventh vertebra, which is governed by the Qi of the Governor Vessel.) Shangji refers to the epigastrium. (Specifically, Zhongwan [RN12]. Zhongwan is the Front-Mu point of the Stomach, located one cun below the upper epigastrium, midway between the xiphoid process and the umbilicus. It is where the Hand-Taiyang, Hand-Shaoyang, and Foot-Yangming meridians originate, and where the Qi of the Conception Vessel emerges. Insertion depth is one cun two fen; if moxibustion is applied, seven cones may be used. Note: *Jia Yi Jing* records it as the meeting point of the Conception Vessel.) Xiaji refers to Guanyuan (RN4). (Guanyuan is the Front-Mu point of the Small Intestine, located three cun below the umbilicus, and is the meeting point of the Three Foot-Yin meridians and the Conception Vessel. Insertion depth is two cun, retention time is seven breaths, and moxibustion is seven cones.) The way evil influences connect the back and chest, linking Yin and Yang on left and right, is as described above. The symptoms include pain and astringency in the front and back, pain in the chest and hypochondrium, dyspnea, inability to lie flat, rebellious Qi, shortness of breath, unilateral pain, full and rising pulse, oblique emergence from the Kaivessel, connection to the chest and hypochondrium, support for the Heart through the diaphragm, ascent to the shoulder adding to Tiantu, and oblique descent to the shoulder crossing below the tenth thoracic vertebra. (Note: Xin Zhengjiao states: "Carefully examining the text from 'back and heart pulling' to here, it is suspected to be from the *Gu Kong Lun* (Bone Empty Treatise), misplaced due to bamboo slip detachment." This is correct. However, since the count of 365 acupoints in this chapter is also missing, it is retained here to preserve both versions.)
There are fifty Shu points of the Zang organs. "Zang" refers to the Five Zang organs: Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung, and Kidney, excluding the four Form Zang organs.
