Diagram of the Hundred Ke (Ke) in Day and Night
Starting from the first quarter of Shen hour, counting up to Si hour, there are ten positions in total, amounting to eighty Ke. Adding one Ke above Xu hour, one Ke above Chou hour, and one Ke above Chen hour, the total is eighty-three Ke, but it is actually four Ke short. Therefore, take four Ke from above Si hour, resulting in eighty-seven Ke. It is still half a Ke short; take thirty minutes (half a Ke) from above Si hour, totaling eighty-seven and a half Ke for the completion of the transition, finally ending at twenty minutes to the left within the middle of Si hour.
Each Palace (Earthly Branch position) consists of eight Ke and twenty Fen. Sixty Fen equal one Ke. The day and night comprise one hundred Ke. The Five Movements and Six Qi all begin from the first quarter of Yin hour each day. Counting initially to twenty minutes at the end of Chou hour, thus each position is eight Ke and twenty Fen. The concept of sixty Fen being one Ke refers to twenty Fen above Yin hour, twenty Fen above Mao hour, and twenty Fen above Chen hour, totaling sixty Fen. Chen, Wei, Xu, and Chou each form one Ke, together forming one hundred Ke.
Place the remaining fractional parts (large and small remainder) of the Great Cold solar term, add the Qi Ce (constant for calculating solar term transitions), and designate Ji You as the starting point. The resulting Day and Hour obtained is the Day and Hour when the Six Qi intersect.
For example, in the year of Gui Chou, the remainder for Great Cold is fifty-nine days, twenty-five Fen, thirteen seconds, single nine. Add the Qi Ce: eighty-seven Fen, thirty-nine seconds, odd one. When two accumulate, they become one second (referring to a fraction rule where two-thirds or similar logic applies, text implies specific arithmetic handling); when six are removed, adding them yields an empty day of twelve Fen, fifty-two seconds, odd two, designated as Ji You. Excluding the empty day in calculation, it is the day of Ji You. In the tenth month, tenth day of Ren Zi year, which was Wu Shen day's Great Cold, we derive that the twelfth day of the second month in Gui Chou year is Ji You day, which is the intersection of the Second Qi (Er Zhi Qi).
Take the remainder of the Second Qi: twelve Fen, fifty-two seconds, odd two. Add the Qi Ce: eighty-seven Fen, thirty-nine seconds, odd one. When three accumulate, they become one Ke. Adding them yields one day [missing characters] twenty-two seconds, designated as Ji You. Excluding the empty day in calculation, we obtain Geng Xu day. On the fourteenth day of the fourth month in Gui Chou year, it is Geng Xu day, marking the intersection of the Third Qi (San Zhi Qi).
Take the remainder of the Third Qi: one day [missing characters] twenty-two seconds. Add the Qi Ce, obtaining one day, eighty-seven Fen, sixty-one seconds, odd one, designated as Ji You. Excluding the empty day in calculation, we obtain Geng Xu day, on the fifteenth day of the sixth month, with the time occurring earlier.
