2) Intersection of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel and the Yang Qiao Vessel. This acupoint is located in the fleshy part of the hip. The channel water at the Earth level within the point vaporizes into a large amount of Yang Qi after flowing into the deeper Earth level. The Qi and Blood substances within the point include both the Yang Qi at the Heaven level and the channel water at the Earth level. These substances align with the nature of the Qi and Blood of the Yang Qiao Vessel, thus serving as the intersection of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel and the Yang Qiao Vessel.
Qi-Blood Characteristics: The Qi-Blood substances consist of channel water at the Earth level and Yang Qi at the Heaven level.
Movement Pattern: Most of the channel water flows into the deeper Earth level through the pores at the Earth level of this point; a small portion flows downward to Huantiao (GB30). The Yang Qi at the Heaven level merges into the Heaven level where the Yang Qiao Vessel resides.
Functions: Promotes dampness resolution and Qi transformation.
Treatment Principles: For Cold patterns, use dredging, tonification, and moxibustion; for Heat patterns, use hydro-acupuncture or needle-draining to release Qi.
30 Huantiao (GB30)
Aliases: Bin Gu, Kuan Gu, Fen Zhong, Huan Ge, Bi Shu, Bi Yan.
Acupoint Meaning: The water-dampness of the Gallbladder Channel vaporizes into Heaven-level Yang Qi here in large quantities.
Name Explanation:
1) Huantiao. "Huan" refers to a jade artifact that is circular with a hole in the center, or a link in a chain; here it indicates that the substance within the point is cool and damp Qi with the characteristics of Lung Metal at the Heaven level. "Tiao" means jumping or vigorous movement, referring to the robustness of Yang Qi within the point. The name implies that the water-dampness of the Gallbladder Channel vaporizes into Heaven-level Yang Qi here. The substance of this point is ground-level water-dampness transmitted from Juliao (GB29); upon reaching this point, the water-dampness seeps into the abundant muscles within the point and vaporizes into Heaven-level Yang Qi. The robust Yang Qi allows for free movement, hence the name Huantiao.
2) Bin Gu. "Bin" refers to the patella (kneecap). "Gu" refers to Kidney Qi.
