Figure of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian
In the chapter "Ping Ren Jue Gu" (Normal Person Fasting from Grain), Bo Gao stated: The stomach has a width of one chi five cun, a diameter of five cun, and a length of two chi six cun. Its curved portion can hold three dou five sheng of water and grain. It commonly retains two dou of grain and one dou five sheng of water when full. The *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states that the stomach weighs two jin one liang. The chapter "Chang Wei" (Intestines and Stomach) agrees with this. The *Su Wen · Ling Tai Mi Dian Lun* says: The spleen and stomach are the officials in charge of storage, from which the five flavors emerge. The chapter "Ben Zang" states: The spleen corresponds to the flesh. If the flesh is firm and large, the stomach wall is thick; if the flesh is small, the stomach wall is thin; if the flesh is small and flaccid, the stomach wall is not firm; if the flesh is disproportionate to the body, the stomach is positioned low. A low-positioned stomach results in dysfunction of the lower constriction (Xia Wan); flaccid flesh indicates a relaxed stomach; flesh lacking fine texture indicates constrained stomach Qi, and constrained stomach Qi results in dysfunction of the upper constriction (Shang Wan).
The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian consists of forty-five acupoints. Counting from Chengqi (ST1) and Sibai (ST2), we accumulate Ju Liao (ST3) and Di Cang (ST4), followed by Da Ying (ST5) and Jia Che (ST6). Descending through Tou Wei (ST8) to enter Ren Ying (ST9), then Shui Tu (ST10), Qi She (ST11), and Que Pen (ST12). Qi Hu (ST13), Ku Fang (ST14), Wu Yi (ST15), Ying Chuang (ST16), Ru Zhong (ST17), and Ru Gen (ST18). Bu Rong (ST19), Cheng Man (ST20), Liang Men (ST21), Guan Men (ST22), Tai Yi (ST23), Hua Rou Men (ST24), Tian Shu (ST25), and Wai Ling (ST26). Da Ju (ST27), Shui Dao (ST28), and Gui Lai (ST29). Qi Chong (ST30) enters the realm of Pi Guan (ST31). Fu Tu (ST32) leads to Yin Shi (ST33) and Liang Qiu (ST34). Du Bi (ST35) proceeds to Zu San Li (ST36). Shang Ju Xu (ST37, also known as Shang Lian) and Tiao Kou (ST38). Xia Ju Xu (ST39, also known as Xia Lian) and Feng Long (ST40). Jie Xi (ST41) and Chong Yang (ST42) enter Xian Gu (ST43). Finally ending at Nei Ting (ST44) and Li Dui (ST45).
The meridian of the stomach is the Foot-Yangming. Chengqi is found seven fen below the eye. Sibai is one cun below the eye. Ju Liao is eight fen beside the nostril. Di Cang is close to four fen beside the corner of the mouth. Da Ying is one cun three fen below the mandible. Jia Che is eight fen below the ear. Xia Guan moves with the artery in front of the ear. Tou Wei is four cun five fen beside Shen Ting (Shen Ting is a Governor Vessel point located five fen above the hairline on the midline. Tou Wei is four cun five fen away from Shen Ting). Ren Ying is truly present one cun five fen beside the throat. Shui Tu is in front of the tendon, below Ren Ying. Qi She multiplies below Shui Tu (Qi She is below Shui Tu). Que Pen is inside the transverse bone below the hollow, clearly visible each one cun half away from the midline. Qi Hu is four cun beside Xuan Ji. To the breast is six cun and four fen. Ku Fang, Wu Yi, and Ying Chuang are near. Ru Zhong is exactly at the center of the nipple. Next, Ru Gen emerges below the breast, each one cun six fen apart without invading each other (From Qi Hu to Ru Gen, these six points are spaced one cun six fen vertically, and four cun away from the midline Ren Vessel). Now leaving the midline requires four cun, stating the previous acupoints to you. Bu Rong is three cun beside Ju Que (Ju Que is a Conception Vessel point, six cun five fen above the umbilicus). Moving back one cun five fen sets up You Men (You Men is a Kidney Meridian point, one cun five fen beside Ju Que, situated between the Stomach Meridian and Conception Vessel). Within are Cheng Man and Liang Men, Guan Men, Tai Yi, and Hua Rou Men. The vertical distance is one cun without excess or deficiency, totaling three cun from the midline. Tian Shu is between two cun beside the umbilicus. One cun below Tian Shu installs Wai Ling. Two cun below Tian Shu is Da Ju. Four cun below Tian Shu is Shui Dao (Metal). Six cun below Tian Shu is Gui Lai (Good). Together they are two cun from the midline. Qi Chong is one cun above the inguinal region (the end of the transverse bone), and specifically four cun from the midline. Bi Guan is one chi two cun above the knee. Fu Tu is six cun above the knee. Yin Shi is three cun above the knee. Liang Qiu is recorded at two cun above the knee. Du Bi exists in the depression of the kneecap. Zu San Li reaches three cun below the knee. Shang Lian is at six cun below the knee. Tiao Kou tastes at seven cun below the knee. Xia Lian is seen at eight cun below the knee. Feng Long is tied at nine cun below the knee, measured actually at eight cun above the ankle, connecting from the outside of Xia Lian. Jie Xi is six cun and half away from Nei Ting (Nei Ting is Nei Ting). Chong Yang changes five cun behind Nei Ting. Xian Gu is between two cun behind Nei Ting. Nei Ting appears in the space between the outer sides of the second toes (in the depression between the lateral side of the great toe and the second toe). Li Dui is at the tip of the great toe and second toe, judged as the Jing-Well point of the Stomach where the distance to the nail is like a leek leaf.
Note: Ma Xuantai said: For the acupoints of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, from Que Pen, Qi Hu, Ku Fang, Wu Yi, Ying Chuang, Ru Zhong, and Ru Gen, they are each four cun away from the midline. The vertical spacing is one cun six fen. From Bu Rong, Cheng Man, Liang Men, Guan Men, Tai Yi, and Hua Rou Men, they are each three cun away from the midline, with vertical spacing of one cun. From Tian Shu, Wai Ling, Da Ju, Shui Dao, and Gui Lai, they are each two cun away from the midline, with unequal vertical spacing. For the single point Qi Chong, it is again two cun from the midline, one cun above the inguinal region. Its curvature is such that the *Xu Shi Zhen Jiu Shu* (Xu's Acupuncture Book) was mistaken in discussing them as two rows. There are forty-five acupoints on each side, totaling ninety acupoints.
