[Jiming San (Crowing Rooster Powder)]
**Composition and Preparation:** Niu Bang Zi (Fructus Arctii, fried until fragrant and ground into fine powder). Before administration, add five spoons of blood from a male rooster and a small amount of Zhuang Yuan Hong (a type of traditional wine), mix well. Take with the decoction of three fen of fried Jing Jie (Herba Schizonepetae).
The rooster belongs to the Xun trigram (Wind) in the Bagua; its nature is to move in response to the sun. When it stretches its neck and crows loudly, it is the moment when Yang energy rises to the top. At this time, blood is taken from the comb, hence the name "Jiming" (Crowing Rooster).
**Indications:** Early stage of smallpox/variolae, specifically symptoms on the head and face.
**Formula Analysis:** [Text contains fragmented notes regarding auxiliary herbs, sudden manifestations, lifting blood, and using blood mulberry as a guide.]
One pile of Ji Shi (Gallus gallus domesticus excrement) (preferably soft with pointed shape and white color), three qian of Liu Yi San (Six-to-One Powder), and a small amount of Bing Pian (Borneol) (used as coating).
Grind all ingredients and form pills the size of mung beans. Administer with a decoction of Deng Xin Cao (Pith of Juncus effusus).
*(Note: In Qi Bo's formula for treating distension (Gu Zhang), fermented grain residue was used to eliminate feces. Today, pediatricians use chicken excrement, taking advantage of its turbid Yin nature. There are many formulas for treating smallpox that use turbid Yin substances, such as Ren Zhong Huang (Human waste processed by bamboo), Ren Zhong Bai (Calcined human excrement), Tong Bian (Child's urine), and Jin Zhi (Processed human feces), which are not unusual. When sha zhen (scarlet fever/rubella-like rash) first erupts, treatment should primarily target the Lung Meridian. Although Wind-Warmth is distinct, yearly climatic variations bring mixed pathogens, all of which are light and clear evils; they may enter through the mouth and nose or invade the San Jiao (Triple Burner).

[Mahuang San (Ephedra Powder)]
**Composition:** Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, stir-fried with honey and wine), Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, stir-fried with wine), Ren Zhong Huang (Human waste processed by bamboo), Niu Bang (Fructus Arctii, fried and ground), Chan Tui (Periostracum Cicadae, heads and feet removed). All in equal proportions.
Grind into powder. Take three qian each time, decoct in water and administer.
During severe cold, wind evil invades the lungs, and the xuankou (pores/secret apertures) are closed by cold. Symptoms include slightly red eyes, watery eyes, nasal congestion, wheezing, cough, and swollen throat. This indicates that sha zhen cannot emerge properly.
