胸痹之病，令人心中坚痞忽痛，肌中苦痹。绞急如刺，不得俯仰，其胸前皮皆痛，不得

用雄黄，巴豆，先捣，雄黄细筛，纳巴豆，务熟捣，相入丸如小豆大，服一丸不效，稍

Chest Bi disease causes a hard, obstructive sensation in the heart region with sudden pain, and severe obstruction in the muscles. The pain is twisting and urgent like stabbing, preventing bending forward or backward. The skin over the chest is painful to touch. There is chest fullness, shortness of breath, coughing that triggers pain, irritability, and spontaneous sweating. Sometimes the pain radiates through to the back and spine. If not treated immediately, it harms the body over several days. Here are formulas for treatment.
Use Xionghuang (Realgar), Badou (Croton Seed). First pound them; sieve the Realgar finely, add the Croton Seed, and ensure thorough pounding. Mix and form pills the size of small beans. Take one pill; if ineffective, gradually increase the dose.
Another formula: Pound Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange). Take one cun-bi (a measuring spoon) per dose, three times daily and once at night.
Another formula: Pound Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit). Use one large fruit, cut Xiebai (Shallot Bulb) half sheng (a volume measure), boil in seven sheng of white wine until two sheng remain. Divide into two doses. You may also add Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) four liang, washed with hot water to remove slipperiness, then use it.
Another formula: Jupi (Tangerine Peel) half jin (weight measure), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) four pieces, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root) half jin, water four sheng. Boil until two sheng remain. Divide into two doses.
Another formula: Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) and Gui (Cinnamon Twig) in equal parts, pound into powder. Take one cun-bi with Jupi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction), three times daily.
The formulas of Zhang Zhongjing are miraculous.
Another formula: Gui (Cinnamon Twig), Wu Hui (Aconite Lateral Root), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger Root) each one fen (part); Renshen (Ginseng Root), Xixin (Asarum Root), Zhuyu (Cornus Fruit) each two fen; Beimü (Fritillaria Bulb) two fen. Pound together, mix with honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take three pills per dose, three times daily.
If the disease has healed but recurs:
Eat five jin of Jiugen (Chinese Chive Roots), pound them, squeeze out the juice, and drink it to cure.
Attached Formula
Du Ren treats chest and diaphragm pain radiating to the back, epigastric and abdominal fullness, qi stagnation, and chronic cough.
Take a large Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit), remove the pulp, take the seeds, roast thoroughly, grind separately, mix with the seed coat, and form pills with wheat starch paste the size of paulownia seeds. Take fifteen pills with rice water.
Ge Shi's formula for treating sudden persistent dry retching:
Break an egg, remove the white, and swallow several yolks; it will cure immediately.
Another formula: Pound Gegen (Kudzu Root), squeeze out the juice, and take about one sheng.
Another formula: Some say Sugarcane Juice, warm it, take one sheng, three times daily. Another says Fresh Ginger Juice, take one sheng.
Another formula: Moxibustion on one acupoint between the two tendons behind both wrists, named Jianshi (Pericardium 4), seven moxa cones on each side. Moxibustion on Xinbaochi (Confluent Point of Pericardium) and ChiZe (Lung 5) is also good.
Another formula: Gancao (Licorice Root) two liang, Renshen (Ginseng Root) two liang, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root) four liang, water six sheng. Boil until two sheng remain. Divide into three doses.
Formula for treating sudden vomiting and cold extremities:
Use Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root) half jin, peel and slice it; Jupi (Tangerine Peel) four liang, tear it. Add water seven sheng, boil until three sheng remain, strain. When temperature is suitable, take one sheng, three times daily.
Another formula: Get Teng (Creeper Vine), break it so juice flows, catch the juice in a vessel, and drink one sheng. Fresh Gegen Teng (Kudzu Creeper Vine) is especially good.
Formula for treating sudden continuous [vomiting]:
Drink several sheng of newly drawn well water; this is very effective.
Another formula: [For] pain, scratch the space between the eyebrows.
Another formula: Stimulate the nose with an object for about one fen duration, insert Zaojiao (Soap Pod) into the nose to induce sneezing; this cures.
Another formula: Simply hold breath and look upward.
Another formula: Take two sheng of good Dou (Fermented Soybean Paste), boil to extract juice, and drink.
Another formula: Boil Xiangsu (Elsholtzia Herb) strongly, take one or two sheng initially; this is good.
Another formula: Make Sanli (Millet) three sheng into powder, take with well water; this is good.
Another formula: Use Pipaye (Loquat Leaf) one jin, wipe off hairs, roast it. Add water one dou (volume measure), boil until three sheng remain. Taking Lugen (Reed Rhizome) is also good.
Formula for treating those who vomit after eating:
Burn Luji Hui (Deer Antler Ash) two liang, Renshen (Ginseng Root) one liang, pound into powder. Take one cun-bi, three times daily. Yao agrees.
Formula for treating sudden persistent nausea:
Xiebai (Shallot Bulb) half jin, Zhuyu (Cornus Fruit) one liang, Dou (Fermented Soybean Paste) half sheng, Rice one ge (measure), Dates four pieces, Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) two pieces, Salt the size of a bullet, water three sheng. Boil until one and a half sheng remain. Divide into three doses.
Another formula: Chew many Doukouzi (Cardamom Seeds) and bite Binglang (Areca Nut); this is also good.
Formula for treating stomach reversal where food is rejected and vomited immediately after eating:
Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) four liang, Gancao (Licorice Root) two liang, water two sheng. Boil until one and a half sheng remain. Divide into two doses.
Formula for treating belching acid and sour heart after eating:
Renshen (Ginseng Root) one liang, Zhuyu (Cornus Fruit) half jin, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root) six liang, Dazao (Jujube) twelve pieces, water six sheng. Boil until two sheng remain. Divide into two doses.
For persistent hiccups: Wash Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) until dry, pound into powder, take one bi (spoonful), and it stops immediately.
Another formula: Ganjiang (Dried Ginger Root) six fen, Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) four fen, roasted and pounded. Form pills with vinegar the size of paulownia seeds. Take three pills, three times daily; effective.

Zhang Zhongjing's formula for treating reverse flow vomiting: Da Banxia Tang (Large Pinellia Decoction).
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) three sheng, Renshen (Ginseng Root) three liang, White Honey one sheng. Add water one dou two sheng, stir and boil one hundred twenty times, cook until three and a half sheng remain. Take one sheng warm, twice daily. It also treats phlegm-fluid retention in the diaphragm.
Another formula: Mainly for vomiting and hiccups. Grain cannot go down, dizziness and palpitations. Banxia Jia Fuling Tang (Pinellia Decoction plus Poria): Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) one sheng, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root) half jin, Fuling (Poria) three liang, sliced. Add water seven sheng, boil until one and a half sheng remain. Divide and take warm.
Qianjin Fang (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats reverse flow vomiting, vomiting immediately after eating.
Pound millet into powder, mix with water, form pills the size of paulownia seeds, seven pills. Cook thoroughly, dip in vinegar, swallow carefully. Once swallowed, it stops. Flour can also be used.
Another formula: Treats dry hiccups. If hands and feet are cold, eat ginger; this is the holy medicine for vomiting cases.
Treats hardness and fullness below the heart, inability to eat, vomiting and hiccups in the chest.

Jingyan Fang (Experienced Prescriptions) treats Ouni Fanwei San (Vomiting and Reverse Flow Powder).
One large Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), one jin of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Root). Finely chop, boil, and grind into a paste consistency. Take with rice water.
Another formula: Treats men and women with persistent vomiting day after day, unable to keep down porridge, food, or medicines. This Hou Xiao Mo Wan (Effective Rubbing Pill) can be applied.
Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung), selected pure without soil or stones, amount unspecified. Pound and sieve into powder, grind, mix with dog bile to form pills the size of chicken heads.
