Whenever one takes mineral powder formulations such as the Five Minerals Hu Ming Geng Sheng Powder (Five Minerals Protecting Life and Renewing Vitality Powder) or Zhongru Han Shi Powder (Stalactite Cold Food Powder), failure to observe the proper regulations for harmonization and dosage will inevitably trigger drug-induced diseases, causing a wide range of symptoms. If the onset is sudden and severe rather than gradual, it indicates the activation of the drug's potency, and timely rescue measures should be taken.
If there are any abnormal pains or discomforts on the limbs and exterior of the body, wash immediately with cold water hundreds of times. If a sensation of heat rushing upward occurs, wipe the body with cloths soaked in cold water, or apply hot/cold stones (cold stone moxibustion/ironing) to the affected areas. Drink warm wine, rise slowly, and walk around.
If there are abnormal pains, irritability, and dizziness within the heart and abdomen, urgently resolve the toxicity. Use alternating hot and cold methods, drink one to two sheng (ancient unit of volume) of warm wine, gradually increasing the intake. Once feeling slightly relieved, consume cold food. For heart pain, which is the most urgent condition: if the muscles are cold and the jaw is clenched, force open the teeth and administer warm wine; this will lead to recovery.
If there are hard accumulations, heat-related癖 (fixed masses), and other diseases within the abdomen, urgently apply purgative therapy.
Take 13 Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit, *Gardeniae Fructus*) and 5 he (ancient unit of volume) of Chi (Fermented Soybean, *Sojae Semen Preparatum*). Add 2 sheng of water, boil to obtain 1 sheng of decoction, and take it all at once. If the heat is extremely severe and sores have already erupted, add 2 liang (ancient unit of weight) of Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, *Scutellariae Radix*). If the fixed masses and food stagnation do not digest, and there is aversion to food and fear of cold, administer another purgative.
Take half a sheng of high-quality Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*), half a sheng of Mang Xiao (Mirabilite, *Natrii Sulfas*), 2 liang of Gan Cao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*), and equal parts (one fen) of Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber, *Pinelliae Rhizoma*), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, *Scutellariae Radix*), and Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flower, *Flos Genkwa*). Pound into a powder and store in a sealed container. To prepare for administration, use 8 sheng of water to first boil 20 Da Zao (Jujube Fruit, *Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus*) until soft. Strain to obtain 4 sheng of liquid, remove the jujubes, then add five fang cun bi (square-inch scoopfuls) of the medicine. Stir well and heat over fire, undergoing three cycles of boiling and cooling ("three ups and three downs"). After completion, divide into three doses. Take one dose in the morning; if bowel movements become smooth, subsequent doses may be withheld. If ineffective, take another dose. Immediately after purgation, prepare and eat two sheng of wine porridge, followed by water-based rice meal. Do not delay eating; an empty stomach susceptible to heat pathogens can be fatal.
After purgation, emergency preparations should be maintained long-term.
Take one he each of Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*), Ting Li (Lepidium Seed, *Lepidii Seminis*), and Chi (Fermented Soybean, *Sojae Semen Preparatum*), and 30 Xing Ren (Apricot Seed, *Armeniacae Semen Amarum*) and Ba Dou (Croton Seed, *Crotonis Fructus*). Pound together, mix with honey, and form pills the size of broad beans. Take two pills in the morning; reduce the dose if diarrhea occurs, increase if palpitations/stagnation persist.
There are many methods involving Sanjie Tang (Detoxification Decoction), pills, powders, and wines. The general principle lies in using cold agents and inducing frequent bowel movements to clear toxins. The limbs should be kept active through labor. One must avoid starvation, spoiled rice, foul fish/meat, hot drinks, thick clothing, proximity to fire, traveling far in summer heat, and excessive exposure to wind/cold. Generally, maintaining a robust physical constitution capable of bearing hardship is ideal. If disease has already manifested, forced cooling measures (such as pouring cold water) may be necessary. Medications taken should preferably possess detoxifying and cooling properties. After taking powders, if symptoms subside but remain static, self-medication may resume after 20-30 days. Persistent stagnation and heat indicate improper regulation, requiring adherence to preventive methods. This regimen is mostly used by wealthy leisure-seekers, while laborers rarely suffer from these issues due to their exposure to cold and physical exertion. Fearing emergencies, these few items are briefly recorded for sudden contingencies. Details are found in the larger formulas section.
Supplementary Formulas
*Sheng Hui Fang* treats eruptions from mineral drugs, characterized by stagnant heat, chest oppression, and hematemesis.
Use fresh Ci Ji (Thistle Herb, *Cirsii Herba*), pound and extract juice. Take 3 he per dose, mix with a little honey, stir evenly, and ingest.
*Shi Liao* states that for Dan Shi (Cinnabar and Stone minerals) heat eruption:
Cook Gu Gen (Imperata Rhizome, *Imperatae Rhizoma*) with Crucian Carp (*Carassius auratus*) to make a soup. Consume it; recovery occurs after two or three meals.
