The condition of "Breast Rock" (Ru Yan, a type of breast cancer) in women is originally not a disease occurring postpartum. However, both Breast Rock and Breast Carbuncle manifest as sores on the breast. Practitioners often treat these conditions indiscriminately, causing significant harm to the public; therefore, it is necessary to distinguish and discuss them separately.
Breast Carbuncle arises from "Blown Milk" (Chui Ru, acute milk stasis), which is different from Breast Rock. Breast Rock results from the gradual depletion of Qi and Blood over several years. It initially stems from women experiencing dissatisfaction with their parents-in-law or husbands, or from prolonged worry and depression regarding various matters, leading to long-term stagnation in the Liver and Spleen organs. In the early stage, small nodules form within the breast, with normal skin color, sized like a Go stone, painless and non-itchy. After ten or more years, they develop into ulcerative sores. Once the ulceration penetrates deep into the lungs and intestines, it becomes incurable. Therefore, at the initial stage, patients may experience internal heat, night fever, five-palm heat (heat sensation in the palms, soles, and chest), limb fatigue and emaciation, and irregular menstruation. Early treatment is advisable. Taking Yi Qi Yang Rong Tang (Qi-Nourishing and Blood-Supplementing Decoction) and Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) for an extended period can gradually dissipate the nodules. If Qi deficiency is severe, large doses of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) should be taken exclusively and for a long time, allowing the nodules to gradually subside. If hard-draining and detoxifying herbs are used, damaging the healthy Qi, it will inevitably lead to溃败 (溃败, collapse/ulceration). Cases that do not ulcerate for many years are particularly critical; once ulcerated, they are untreatable. Zhou Jizhi stated: For Ru Pi (Breast Fibroadenoma) and Ru Yan, when the lump is hard and un-ulcerated, one can mash a live crucian carp together with fresh Dioscorea opposita (Shan Yao) and apply a small amount of Moschus (She Xiang) to the lump. When extreme itching occurs, do not scratch; gently rub through clothing. Apply once every seven days, and the lump will gradually diminish. If time passes until ulceration and putrefaction occur, resembling rock-like lesions with redness, weeping fluid, deep foul-smelling cavities, Gui Pi Tang (Spleen-Restoring Decoction) and other medicines can be used to prolong life. Misusing attacking/draining methods will lead to imminent danger. I once saw a woman with breast tubercles the size of a cup for several years, where all treatments failed. After suffering from metrorrhagia (blood flooding), she took approximately one qian of Ren Shen daily for over a month, consuming a total of two jin of Ginseng, after which the breast nodule suddenly disappeared. This condition is milder in women who still have menstruation; for those aged fifty or sixty without menstruation, it must not be viewed lightly.
Yi Qi Yang Rong Tang treats Luo Li (scrofula), He Jie (tubercles), Liu Zhu (flowing abscesses), and all types of stagnant heat and toxic vapors.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, stir-fried with soil), Fu Ling (Poria, each 1 qian), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 qian), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, wine-fried, each 8 fen), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 2-3 qian), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried, 1.5 qian), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian or 8 fen), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus, heart removed, 1.2 qian), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma, 7-8 fen), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata, each 5 fen).
Use Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) as a guide, decoct in water and take orally.
