The image of the Spleen corresponds to Kun (Earth) in the Bagua. It is peaceful and faces the gate of the Stomach. Its flourishing times follow the four seasons. It takes Earth as its root. It grinds grain and can digest food. It nourishes the body, and its nature is originally warm. It manifests on the lips and connects with the breath from the mouth.
[Regarding the size of the spleen]: Connecting to the flesh, moistening the skin and buttocks. [Shape flat] [Broad] [Talent] [Long] three [five] [cun five].
Nan Jing states: The spleen is broad three cun and long five cun. Mai Jue only mentions flat three cun, missing the text of long five cun. Now combining breadth and length, we establish the number three-five.
Gao Ning San Ban Jin. The pulse following the season is slow. If lost, Qi connects with swallowing.
Su Wen states: Among diseases caused by the five Qi, Spleen disease presents as swallowing (dysphagia or hiccups). It also states that puncturing the Spleen leads to death in ten days. Its movement resembles swallowing. Li Fan says: "Lian Tun" describes the tight and rapid pulse state. This contradicts Nei Jing and loses the intent of Mai Jue.
Excess dreams of songs and joy. Deficiency dreams of fighting over food distribution. Dampness often causes five types of diarrhea. Intestinal rumbling sounds like thunder rushing. Pi Qi forms an accumulation in winter. Skin turns yellow, limbs feel heavy. Weight two jin fourteen liang. Capacity three dou five sheng.
When all three positions show a slow pulse, it indicates Heat in the Spleen. Bad breath, stomach reflux, chronic vomiting. Swollen teeth, blocked circulation, Qi entanglement. Alternating chills and fever, frequent lack of mental strength.
Spleen pulse excess combined with floating indicates Xiao Zhong (Middle Consumption) and Spleen-Stomach deficiency. Dry mouth, abundant drinking. Eating much but muscles remain weak. (Muscle alternatively reads Hunger). Single slippery pulse indicates Heat in the Spleen. Bad breath, coarse breathing. Choppy pulse means not due to excessive eating; food does not build muscle. Slight floating indicates invasion by external Heat, coming and going with slight dispersion. Tight pulse indicates Spleen pain, accompanied by tendon stiffness. Desire to vomit but unable to, surging without relief. If wiry, Liver Qi is excessive, hindering eating due to scheming. Severe excess causes heart pain, like evil without talismans. Overflowing Guan position, saliva retreats from Chang Men, seen in wind as isolated.
The Lung resides at the forefront. The Large Intestine channel is open and disseminating. Dui corresponds to Bagua [Earth] [Speech]. Metal [belongs] [sequence] Five Elements [connects] [transmits]. Skin and hair correspond mutually. Hun and Po are connected together. The nose distinguishes fragrance and stench. Obstruction causes Qi to fry each other. Excessive speech becomes cough. Sores float, wine pours through. Pig fat coagulating is auspicious. Withered bones mean life is hard to save. Original accumulation is Xiben disorder. In spring, right hypochondriac side. Following season: floating, choppy, short. Reversing: large, flooding, wiry. Excess dreams of weapons and war. Deficiency walks [wades] [dreams] [water] [wild fields].
Ling Shu states: When Ju Qi invades the Large Intestine, one dreams of wild fields. Now according to Mai Jue, taking water fields as the dream for Lung deficiency is incorrect. Large Intestine deficiency, invaded by Ju Qi, leads to dreaming of wild fields. Fu deficiency leading to Zang deficiency might be linked. If saying water fields, it is a Kidney dream.
Weight three jin three liang. Six lobes scattered and suspended.
