The Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Small Intestine, Bladder, Kidney, Pericardium, Sanjiao (Triple Burner), Gallbladder, and Liver follow in sequence; the Hand Yin meridians connect to the Zang organs, the Hand Yang meridians connect to the head, the Foot Yin meridians connect to the abdomen, and the Foot Yang meridians connect to the head and feet. (This is the order of transmission among the Zang-Fu organs, and the sequence of circulation up and down.)
(From *Fourteen Meridians Unfolded*.)
The Twelve Meridians begin with the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Its branch emerges from behind the wrist to the tip of the index finger, and connects with the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. The branch of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian ascends from the Clavicle region (Quepen, LI13) along both sides of the mouth and nose, and connects with the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian emerges from the dorsum of the foot to the tip of the great toe, and connects with the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian diverges from the Stomach, ascends through the Diaphragm, and pours into the Heart, connecting with the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian has no branch; it directly connects from its own Shaochong (HT9) acupoint to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. The branch of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian diverges from the cheek, ascends to the inner canthus of the eye, and connects with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian diverges from the medial aspect of the shoulder on both sides, descends to converge in the popliteal fossa, continues down to the lateral end of the little toe, and connects with the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian emerges from the Lung, pours into the chest, and connects with the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian. The branch of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian follows from the palm between the little finger and the second finger, emerging at their tips, and connects with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. The branch of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian emerges from behind the ear to the outer canthus of the eye, and connects with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian enters the nail bed of the great toe from the dorsum of the foot, emerges from the pubic hair area, and connects with the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. The branch of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian diverges from the Liver, penetrates the Diaphragm, ascends to pour into the Lung, enters the throat posteriorly, ascends to the forehead, circulates along the vertex, travels along the Du Meridian (Governing Vessel), connects with the genitalia, passes through the pubic hair region, travels along the Ren Meridian (Conception Vessel), enters the Clavicle region, descends to pour into the Lung, and finally reconnects with the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian.
(Attached: Diagram of the Start and End Points of the Twelve Meridians.)
The meridians begin with Taiyin and end last with Jueyin. The acupoints start first with Zhongfu (LU1) and end with Qimen (LR14). Originally, the Lung meridian originates in the chest, emerges from under the axilla, travels to Shaoshang (LU11), connects with the index finger, and joins the Yangming meridian. The Large Intestine meridian starts at Shangyang (LI1) and ends at Yingxiang (LI20) outside the nose. The Stomach meridian passes through Chengqi (ST1) and descends, reaching Lidui (ST45) on the foot meridian. The Spleen meridian begins at Yinbai (SP1) on the foot and trends toward Dabao (SP21) under the armpit. The Heart meridian exits from Jianquan (HT1) and pours into Shaochong (HT9) on the little finger. The Small Intestine meridian begins at Shaoze (SI1), ascends behind the shoulder, and connects to Tinggong (SI19). The Bladder meridian's acupoints start at Jingming (BL1) and exit at Zhiyin (BL67) on the lateral side of the foot. The Kidney meridian initiates at Yongquan (KI1) and connects to Yufu (KI27) in the anterior chest. The Pericardium meridian starts at Tianchi (PC1) behind the breast. It connects with Zhongchong (PC9) in the middle finger. The Sanjiao meridian begins on the lateral side of the finger, from Guanchong (TE1) to Sizhukong (TE23). The Gallbladder meridian starts from Tongziliao (GB1) and connects to Xiaoyin (GB44) on the fourth toe of the foot. The Liver meridian ascends from Dadun (LR1) and returns to the Lung meridian of Hand-Taiyin at Qimen (LR14).
