Treats wind-toxin, where qi attacks the eyes, eventually forming internal and external cataracts (opacities of the lens or cornea), causing pain and suffering, with red flesh and visible blood vessels. Cases lasting ten years can all be treated.
Black Soybean (2 liang, small ones) Chuan Wutou (1 liang, peeled) Qing Ju Pi (0.5 liang, white pith removed; ground together with Wutou and Black Soybean into powder, soaked overnight in 1 sheng 3 he of water, then simmered over low heat to form a paste) Gan Ju Hua (1 liang) Niuxi Gouqi Chuanxiong Jingjie Sui Qianghuo Dilong (cleaned)
Grind the aforementioned ingredients (Qing Pi etc.) into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills each time, on an empty stomach, with tea or wine as desired; honey water is also acceptable. My late father, due to the loss of his youngest daughter, was injured by grief and weeping, suddenly closing his eyes and losing vision. After more than a month of treatment, his sight recovered. Later, due to extreme anger when scolding a criminal, his eyes closed again and he lost sight. He obtained this prescription after a year. Taking less than one dose restored his vision.
Qianghuo Fangfeng (soaked in wine overnight) Huangqi Muzei Fuzi (processed) Chanqiao Gancao Shetui (one strip, roasted with green bamboo) Jingjie Sui Gan Ju Hua Bai Jili (remove spines) Xuanfu Hua Shi Jueming (wrapped in mud, burned until red-hot, separately ground)
Take equal parts of the above. Exclude Fuzi, Shetui, and Shi Jueming. Crush the remaining herbs. Roast them on a new tile until dry, then grind into a powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed and taken after boiling in the second rinse of rice water. Take one dose on an empty stomach, at noon, and before midnight sleep. When I was young, I suffered from eye disease. Over a year later, someone gave me this formula, but I did not have time to prepare it. A cousin, Xu Fuchang, suffered severely from dim vision and later recovered completely. Asking him about the cause of recovery, he said that after taking this medicine, he continued to take it. He recovered before finishing one dose. Since then, giving it to others has always been effective.
Treats various types of stroke (Zhong Feng) and cold damage (Shang Han).
Jingde Wutou (4 liang, skin broken; those from Jingde with rhizome heads and white flesh are best) Gaoben Fangfeng Danggui Baizhi Tiannanxing Chuanxiong Ganjiang Xionghuang (finely ground) Guizhi (all half liang, raw, avoid fire)
Grind the above into powder. Take one "zi" or half a "qian" with warm scallion wine. For paralysis, add Niuhuang and Shexiang; reduce the dose for children, taken with mint wine. I have personally seen several doctors use this powder, so I briefly record one or two cases. Once in Jiangnan, I saw a person lying at the market gate. Upon inquiry, he was a traveling merchant who had contracted hemiplegia (pian feng). Medical treatment made his condition worse, leading to critical illness, and he was abandoned by the innkeeper. At that time, my elder brother was the county magistrate. Someone carried him to the magistrate's office, and medicine was administered. Another ten doses were given. A few days later, my brother went out. A man in the market leaned against a bed and shouted: "The person who lay there yesterday can now walk holding the bed!" The medicine ran out, and he asked for more. My brother gave another ten doses. After finishing them, he could stand up. Another official suffered from sores and spasms, lying bedridden for over a year. My brother gave him two qian-bi of the powder, divided into eight doses. The official mistakenly took it all at once. After ingestion, he became stiff, dizzy, and vomited, nearly dying. A few days later, the sores and spasms disappeared, and he recovered greatly. For stroke-induced spasticity or flaccidity, treatment must first remove phlegm. After phlegm is removed, use formulas like Xuming Tang to induce sweating. If that is not suitable, using this powder is appropriate. Generally, wind diseases often carry heat. If dispersal has not occurred, administering Wutou-type drugs may be inappropriate. Further consideration of treatment is necessary, certainly...
