Grind the firm, white Poria (Fuling, 茯苓) into powder. Take five qian each time, mixed with warm water for oral administration. It should be taken on an empty stomach, before meals, and before going to bed, four to five times a day. Medical texts regarding nocturnal emission (Mengxie, 梦泄) all attribute it to Kidney deficiency (Shen Xu, 肾虚), suggesting only tonifying the Kidney and astringing essence (Bu Shen Se Jing, 补肾涩精). However, such methods have rarely proven effective. My analysis indicates three types of syndromes for this condition: The first is extreme deficiency, where the Kidney cannot secure essence and the Heart cannot control thoughts. Emission may occur during dreams or without dreams. These conditions are severe and require large doses of tonic medicines. However, few people suffer from this type. The rest mostly suffer from Heart deficiency (Xin Xu, 心虚) or Heart heat (Xin Re, 心热). Due to emotional stimuli from the Heart, emissions occur in dreams. This syndrome is milder, and most patients fall into this category; they can recover simply by taking Poria Powder (Fuling San, 茯苓散). I have used it repeatedly to save others with excellent results. There are also young men with vigorous Qi, or widowers and Daoist priests, who forcibly restrain their desires. Emissions caused by mental arousal belong to a state of no disease. *Yi Ji She Sheng Jia* states that nocturnal emission is more harmful than sexual excess, which is likely incorrect. I have verified that when people engage in sexual activity shortly after recovering from epidemic febrile diseases (Tian Xing, 天行), death often ensues. In contrast, nocturnal emission never causes physical exhaustion, which is clearly evident; there are merely degrees of severity in nocturnal emissions.
Tin sand (if used for making silver paste, replace with Minium (Huangdan, 黄丹) and mix to the size of Wutongzi pills) Tordis Seed (Wuyi, 芜荑) Areca Nut (Binglang, 槟榔) (These two herbs are ground equally into powder.)
Decoct concentrated pomegranate root juice to half a sheng. Add three qian of the powder and form five pills. Take at midnight, and expel worms the next morning. When I was young, I suffered from Taenia solium (Cunbai Chong, 寸白虫). Initially, the worms were longer than rice grains. After several years, they grew to over one cun in length. Ancient texts say that if a worm reaches one chi in length, the person dies. I treated it with medicine, expelling several he of worms. Some were like ribbons, over ten zhang long, coiling like pig intestines, moving shimmeringly. When the tip broke off at one cun, it became a separate worm. After expulsion, the illness subsided slightly, but returned to its original state after a few months. This happened four or five times. Later
I once read *Ben Cao*, noting that Honeycomb (Lufengfang, 露蜂房), Snake Slough (Shetui, 蛇蜕), and tangled hair, each burned to ash, taken as one qian bi per herb, mixed with wine, are miraculously effective for treating ulcers that fail to heal. I have tested this repeatedly. Burn them until the medicinal properties are partially retained. For treating carbuncles and sores (Yong Ju, 痈疽), take a handful of fresh Honeysuckle buds (Rendong, 忍冬). The leaves are pointed and round, growing on stems with hairs. They grow in fields and along fences everywhere. Leaves grow opposite each other. In spring and summer, new leaf tips are tender green and thin. In autumn and winter, they become thick and hard, dark green and round. After frost, leaves curl and turn purple, remaining evergreen through winter. Flowers bloom in April, extremely fragrant, scent detectable from several steps away. Initially white, turning yellow after a few days. The alternating yellow and white flowers give it the name Gold and Silver Flower (Jinyinhua, 金银花). The stamens hang down like threads, hence also called Old Man's Beard (Laowengxu, 老翁须) or Golden Hairpin (Jinchai Gu, 金chai gu). In winter, the round, thick leaves resemble Ficus pumila (Bilixiang, 薜荔), also called Big Bilixiang (Dabilixiang, 大薜荔). It can be transplanted to courtyard railings for emergency use. The floral fragrance is pleasant, similar to Jasmine (Moli, 茉莉), Daphne (Ruixiang, 瑞香), and Licorice (Gancao, 甘草). (Use raw Ban liang)
Mash the fresh Honeysuckle thoroughly, combine with Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草), and add one jin and half sheng of wine. Seal in a clay pot and boil for the duration of two meals. Take warm. While in Jiangxi, I met Monk Jianqing, a physician skilled in treating Back Carbuncle (Fabai Ju, 发背疽). He shared his formula using Old Man's Beard, which I found mysterious. Ten years later, passing through Jinling, I heard Physician Wang Qi was also skilled in treating sores. His formula used Willow Vine (Shuiyang Teng, 水杨藤). Upon inspection, it was indeed Old Man's Beard. A few years later, my friend Wang Ziyuan mentioned a divine formula that saved several people, using Big Bilixiang. Passing through Liyang, Physician Du treated sores, saving one person for twenty thousand coins, using Thunbergia laurifolia (Qianjin Teng, 千金藤). At Ningguo County尉 in Xuanzhou, Wang Zibo passed on a formula using Gold and Silver Flower. Liu Chunchen, a scholar from Haizhou, passed on a formula using Golden Hairpin. These gentlemen all made their skills seem miraculous. Investigating these herbs, I found they are all the same plant. Consulting *Ben Cao*, it is Honeysuckle. Ancients used it only as a tonic, not for treating sores. The method of boiling with Licorice is consistent across formulas. If fresh herbs are unavailable in haste, dry leaves can be powdered. Take three fang cun bi of the leaf powder and one fang cun bi of Licorice, boiled in wine. This is acceptable but inferior to fresh herbs.
