This condition initially presents with nodules, where uneven lumps accumulate in red and purple clusters like beads. The larger ones are the size of chestnuts, appearing in strings of three to five, while the smaller ones resemble locust seeds, presenting as grape-like granules scattered on the skin surface. This is caused by excessive worry and thought, and extreme sexual indulgence, which injure Kidney Water (Jin-Ye, body fluids), depriving the Shen (Spirit) of support. Wind-Dampness pathogens then run rampant on the exterior of the skin collaterals. Immediate treatment with Huolong San (Fire Dragon Powder), Zaoling Dan (Jujube Spirit Pill), and Shengtian Naoxie San (Heaven-Ascending Musk Powder) is required. If one fails to abstain from sexual desires, symptoms will progress to curvature of the waist and back, flaccidity and paralysis of the limbs, contracture and destruction of fingers and knees, corruption and decay of the mouth and face, collapse of the nose bridge, sinking of the eyes, bone-steaming tidal fever, hair loss with profuse sweating, frequent pulling pain and stiffness of the body, dull pain in the skin and muscles, and a sensation in the throat as if swallowing an object. The harm becomes severe. This condition is also known as Han Feng (Sweat Wind) or Putao Feng (Grape Wind).
Another variant involves fine black lumps appearing on the palms, fingers, arms, ankles, thighs, abdomen, ribs, hypochondrium, neck, head, or face. These remain hidden when the weather is clear and bright but manifest during cloudy, rainy, humid, and muggy conditions. Alternatively, they may be invisible during the day but erupt with intense itching at You-Xu hours (5 PM–9 PM), causing pain upon scratching. When the weather is clear, the color may be bright red or floating white with itching; during rain, it becomes dark, black, and purple with pain. This is named Du Chi Chuang (Jealousy Madness Sore), caused by stagnant Fire and Wind pathogens invading the Zang-Fu organs. It must be rapidly treated with formulas that dispel wind, nourish blood, regulate Qi, and clear Yang. Otherwise, it will develop into Da Feng (Great Wind/Leprosy).
This condition initially resembles Shui Gu (Water Distension/Ascites), with edema of the four limbs, fullness, stifling sensation, flaccidity, and fatigue. Subsequently, blisters appear all over the body; upon rupture, they become sores with foul-smelling, purulent discharge, leading to rapid ulceration. If it manifests in the joints, it causes soft paralysis and immobility, loss of eyebrows, contracture and fracture of hands and feet, collapse of the nose bridge, eversion of lips, and destruction/falling off of toes and palms. This is also called Lan Feng (Rotting Wind). If there is frequent colicky pain around the umbilicus, gradual emaciation following eating, sitting, lying down, or sweating, and if the edema starts from the feet, the harm is extremely urgent. This results from excessive wine and sex, violent anger, cruel and eccentric temperament, rage, and Qi stagnation, leading to the deterioration of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, depletion of essence and fluids, and injury to the Five Zang organs by Damp-Toxicity and Cold pathogens, depleting the Spleen and Kidneys. It may also stem from anger combined with water dampness causing stagnation and coagulation. Such cases often involve damage to Wind-Water Yin-Yang and misfortune caused by annual life spirits and evil stars. Recovery requires Susun Fengqi Wan (Search for Wind and Smooth Qi Pill), Kushen Wan (Sophora Root Pill), Shengtian Naoxie San (Heaven-Ascending Musk Powder), combined with formulas that dispel pathogens, regulate Qi, nourish righteousness, and support the Spirit.
