Metal generates Water. Water generates Wood. Wood generates Fire. Fire generates Earth. Earth generates Metal.
Metal overcomes Wood. Wood overcomes Earth. Earth overcomes Water. Water overcomes Fire. Fire overcomes Metal.
Heaven generates Water with the number one; Earth completes it with six. Earth generates Fire with the number two; Heaven completes it with seven. Heaven generates Wood with the number three; Earth completes it with eight. Earth generates Metal with the number four; Heaven completes it with nine. Heaven generates Earth with the number five; Earth completes it with ten.
Thus: Water corresponds to one and six; Fire to two and seven; Wood to three and eight; Metal to four and nine; Earth to five and ten.
For instance, if the Xin Mai (Heart Pulse) is diagnosed as stopping at the numbers one or six, this indicates Shui Ke Huo (Water overcoming Fire). If this occurs on Bing days or Xin days, or during Chen hours or Xu hours, death will ensue. The same logic applies to other organs.
If the Gan Mai (Liver Pulse) is diagnosed as stopping at the numbers four or nine, this indicates Jin Ke Mu (Metal overcoming Wood). Death will occur on Yi days or Geng days, or during Mao hours or You hours.
If the Pi Mai (Spleen Pulse) is diagnosed as stopping at the numbers three or eight, this indicates Mu Ke Tu (Wood overcoming Earth). Death will occur on Ding days or Ren days, or during Ji Hai hours.
If the Fei Mai (Lung Pulse) is diagnosed as stopping at the numbers two or seven, this indicates Huo Ke Jin (Fire overcoming Metal). Death will occur on Wu days or Gui days, or during Zi hours or Wu hours.
If the Shen Mai (Kidney Pulse) is diagnosed as stopping at the numbers five or ten, this indicates Tu Ke Shui (Earth overcoming Water). Death will occur on Jia days or Ji days, or during Chou hours or Wei hours.
The East corresponds to Heavenly Stems Jia and Yi, belonging to Wood; the South corresponds to Bing and Ding, belonging to Fire; the West corresponds to Geng and Xin, belonging to Metal; the North corresponds to Ren and Gui, belonging to Water; the Center corresponds to Wu and Ji, belonging to Earth.
Jia combines with Ji to transform into Earth; Yi combines with Geng to transform into Metal. Ding combines with Ren to transform into Wood, resulting in lush forests. Bing combines with Xin to transform into Water, flowing abundantly. Wu combines with Gui to transform into Fire, invading the Southern region.
Zi and Wu correspond to Shao Yin Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire of Shaoyin); Mao and You correspond to Yang Ming Zao Jin (Dryness Metal of Yangming); Chen and Xu correspond to Tai Yang Han Shui (Cold Water of Taiyang); Chou and Wei correspond to Tai Yin Shi Tu (Damp Earth of Taiyin); Yin and Shen correspond to Shao Yang Xiang Huo (Assistant Fire of Shaoyang); Si and Hai correspond to Jue Yin Feng Mu (Wind Wood of Jueyin).
Yi You belongs to Metal. (Because Yi and Geng transform into Metal, and Mao and You correspond to Yang Ming Dryness Metal.)
Bing Xu belongs to Water. (Because Bing and Xin transform into Water, and Chen and Xu correspond to Tai Yang Cold Water.)
Ding Hai belongs to Wood. (Because Ding and Ren transform into Wood, and Si and Hai correspond to Jue Yin Wind Wood.)
Wu Zi belongs to Fire. (Because Wu and Gui transform into Fire, and Zi and Wu correspond to Shao Yin Ministerial Fire.)
Ji Chou belongs to Earth. (Because Jia and Ji transform into Earth, and Chou and Wei correspond to Tai Yin Damp Earth.)
