[Da] The cause of frequent urination in women lies in the fact that both the Kidney and the Bladder govern water metabolism. Kidney Qi connects with the external genitalia. If these two meridians are both deficient and subjected to pathogenic heat, it results in difficult and scanty urination; if deficiency is predominant, it manifests as frequent urination.
[Xue] For the aforementioned symptoms, if caused by fire stirring in the Liver Meridian, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) [for regulating menstruation] added with Longdan Cao (Gentian Root) and Cheqianzi (Plantago Seed). If caused by fire stirring in the Bladder, use Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) [for miscellaneous diseases and consumptive disorders] added with Maimen Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit). If caused by damp-heat in the Liver and Kidney, use Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Decoction to Drain the Liver). [See section on Genital Sores]. If caused by emotional constraint injuring the Liver and Spleen, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) or Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction). If caused by Qi deficiency of the Liver, Spleen, and Lung, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction to Supplement the Middle and Augment the Qi) [for miscellaneous diseases due to overwork and fatigue] added with Maimen Dong and Wuweizi. If caused by Blood deficiency in the Liver Meridian, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San. If caused by severe deficiency and failure of Kidney Qi, use Lurong San (Deer Antler Powder). If there is no response, use Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill). One woman suffered from the aforementioned condition with frequent urination and severe fever in the late afternoon; this was due to Blood deficiency and Qi stagnation of the Liver and Spleen combined with damp-heat. She recovered after taking Jiawei Xiaoyao San added with Cheqianzi. Another woman suffered from the aforementioned condition with fever, irritability, redness of the face and eyes, and a flooding yet empty pulse. I diagnosed this as irritability caused by Blood deficiency and prescribed Danggui Buxue Tang (Angelica Tonifying the Blood Decoction) [for miscellaneous diseases due to overwork and fatigue], from which she recovered after several doses. A third woman had suffered from the aforementioned condition for a long time, stubbornly believing it was a Fire syndrome, and indiscriminately used cold and cooling hemostatic agents, resulting in the manifestation of all deficiency syndromes. I stated: "This is damage to the Spleen and Stomach leading to disease in various meridians; the primary treatment should be tonifying Middle Qi." Consequently, she alternately took Liujun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) and Buzhong Yiqi Tang for over two months and soon recovered.
[Da] Lurong San (Deer Antler Powder) treats chronic deficiency-cold in women, characterized by urinating thirty to fifty times day and night.
Lurong (Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum), Wuzheiyugu (Sepiae Endoconcha), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Caulis et Ramulus), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae) [each 1 liang]; Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) [each 7 qian 5 fen]; Sangpiaoxiao (Sphingidis Mantis Oötheca) [0.5 liang].
Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian before meals, mixed with warm wine.
Sangpiaoxiao San (Mantis Egg-case Powder) treats deficiency-cold in women with frequent urination.
Sangpiaoxiao (Sphingidis Mantis Oötheca) [30 pieces, stir-fried], Lurong (Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum), Muli Fen (Concha Ostreae Pulvis) [2 liang], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [2 liang], Huangqi (Astragali Radix) [0.5 liang].
Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian before meals, mixed with ginger decoction.
Supplementary Suoquan Wan (Lock the Fountain Pill) treats insufficiency of Bladder Qi with frequent urination.
Tiantai Weiyao (Stellariae Fructus), Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Semen) [equal parts].
Grind into powder. Boil Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) in wine to make a paste, form pills the size of mustard seeds. Swallow 70 pills before sleep with salted wine. Alternatively, take as powder mixed with wine. If unable to drink alcohol, mix with rice gruel.
Another method: Take one piece of glutinous rice, roast until soft and cooked before sleep, consume it, and swallow with warm wine. If not drinking alcohol, use plain water. Consuming more is better. Walk or sit for a while until the stomach feels empty, then sleep. This is highly effective.
