*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats the condition of jaw dislocation and inability to close the mouth caused by yawning:
Have one person use their fingers to pull the patient's chin, gradually pushing it back into place, and it will return to normal. After pushing it in, the finger should be withdrawn quickly to avoid accidental biting injury to the finger.
Another prescription: Melt wax and mix with water, apply as a poultice to the affected area.
Yet another prescription: Treats trismus (lockjaw), where the mouth corners and eye roots pull the tongue making it immobile:
Ostreae Concha (calcined) [Fulonggan] Fuzii (processed, skin removed) Fan Shi (burned)
Take the above four herbs, grind them into fine powder in equal proportions. Mix with white wine to form a paste, apply to the affected area, change when dry, continue until cured.
Moxibustion method from *Qianjin Fang*: For jaw dislocation caused by yawning, moxa on the fifth thoracic vertebra on the back, seven moxa cones per day. If not healed after three days, moxa Qichong point for two hundred cones. The location is in the middle of the bone below the throat on the chest, also known as Qitang.
Also moxa the depression three cun above the medial malleolus of the foot, or three cun five fen, one hundred cones, repeated three times; this is the Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupoint.
[Zhang Huan]: Various diseases of the ears in children are caused by wind pathogen invading the brain and stagnating in the Hand-Taiyang meridian, leading to deafness. When wind and dampness pathogens interact, sores may appear in both ears. Furthermore, when children are slightly older, if they see the new moon and point at it with their finger, sores may develop under the ear, named "Moon Erosion Sores" (Yueshi Chuang). Additionally, when a wet nurse bathes an infant and accidentally allows water to enter the ear, the water and dampness stagnate and accumulate, interacting with blood and qi, fermenting and forming pus, which is called "Er Gan" (Ear Malnutrition/Parasitic Disease).
[Xue Ji]: The ears are the orifices of the Heart and Kidney, and belong to the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. The Heart and Kidney govern internal conditions, often due to insufficiency of essence and blood; the Liver and Gallbladder govern external conditions, often due to excess wind-heat. Deafness or tinnitus may result from congenital deficiency. Swelling, pain, or purulent itching result from pathogenic factors lodging in the body. For congenital deficiency, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Kidney Tonifying Pill) is suitable. For Liver meridian wind-heat, Chaihu Qinggan San is suitable. If caused by blood dryness, Zhizi Qinggan San (Clear Heat) is used; if ineffective, combine with Liuwei Dihuang Wan, and intermittently administer Jiuwei Lushui Wan (for Infantile Malnutrition/Gan syndrome). If due to Liver-Kidney Gan heat, take Liuwei Dihuang Wan in the morning and Lushui Wan in the evening. If due to food stagnation generating internal heat, Siwei Fei'er Wan (for Infantile Malnutrition/Gan syndrome) is used. If caused by accumulated heat from the wet nurse's rich diet, Jiawei Qingwei San (for Toothache) is suitable. If caused by Spleen meridian constraint/stagnation, Jiawei Guipi Tang (for Palpitations/Fright) is suitable. If caused by Liver meridian fire anger, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (for Deficient Heat) is suitable. These should be taken by the wet nurse, who should also give small amounts to the infant. Do not focus solely on treating external symptoms; this not only blocks the ear orifice but may also generate other complications. Prolonged neglect leads to lifelong deafness; be cautious.
The song from *Baoyan Cuoyao* states: Taiyang pathogen entering the ear damages hearing; Qi stagnation often causes deafness. Tinnitus is linked to wind and Qi interaction. Pain corresponds to evil wind at Naohu point. Kidney heat and stagnation cause ear afflictions; deepening daily, pain produces thick pus. Without thick pus, it is not this disease; it is merely because water drops entered inside.
