也有病情轻微而自行痊愈的情况。如果放纵酒色，嗜好辛辣、火热及有毒之物，性情多怒、烦躁、急躁的人，以及患病日久不治疗，因而积久成疾的，则病变增大，变大后变坚硬，坚硬后产生疼痛，或者变大并低陷溃烂，颜色发白或淡黄，像腐烂疮疡相似者，证候尚属轻浅。如果再不知禁忌，并且触犯戒律的，则溃烂加深。溃烂加深后又继续不遵守禁忌、不进行治疗的，则转变为漏症（瘘管）。不可误认为是粟疮（针眼/麦粒肿）。
如果是连片聚集而生、相互相聚的，就不是星。因为星不能长得很大，变得很大的也不是星。有虚实两种情况，有的会自行消退，有的不会消退。所谓的虚实，不是指人的气血而言，而是指络脉之间的火邪而言。如果络脉间的虚火客居游走，因而郁滞于风轮（黑睛），凝结成星的，这种火没有根源，不能长久滞留，火退气散，膏液清澈，星就会自然消除。如果火有根源而来，气实壅盛……
There are cases that are mild and resolve spontaneously. If one indulges in alcohol and sexual activity, has a preference for pungent, hot, and toxic foods, possesses a temperament prone to anger, irritability, and impatience, or fails to treat the condition for a long time leading to accumulation, the lesion may enlarge, become firm, and then painful; or it may enlarge, sink, and ulcerate, appearing white or pale yellow, resembling a rotting sore. Such manifestations indicate a relatively mild syndrome. If one continues to ignore dietary and lifestyle taboos and violates them, the ulceration will deepen. If deep ulceration is further compounded by continued disregard for taboos and lack of treatment, it may transform into a fistula (Lou). It must not be mistaken for Hordeolum (Suli Chuang).

The terms deficiency and excess here do not refer to the body's Qi and Blood, but rather to the Fire within the collaterals. If deficient Fire from the collaterals wanders and stagnates in the Wind Wheel (cornea), condensing into a star, this Fire lacks a source and cannot persist for long.
