Cuìqīng Dìngzi (Emerald Green Pill), also known as Shànxiào Dìngzi (Excellent Effect Pill), is used to treat Nǎojū (Brain Carbuncle), Fābèi (Back Carbuncle), Èchuāng (Malignant Ulcer), and their ulcerated stages, with the function of draining pus and promoting tissue regeneration.
Tongqing (Malachite Green, 4 qian), Mingfan (Calcined Alum, calcined until dry), Shaofen (Kaolin powder), Ruxiang (Frankincense, ground separately, 1.5 qian), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 1.5 qian), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix), Qingfen (Calomel, 1 qian), Shexiang (Musk, 0.5 qian), Xingren (Apricot Seed, 14 grains, peeled and removed of tips, ground separately).
If there is necrotic tissue, add Baixiangding (White Civet Cat Excrement, 1 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Form into pill-shaped cakes using thick rice paste, or mix with glutinous rice flour; either method is acceptable. Apply according to the depth of the wound, continuing until the wound surface is level and healed; it can still be used at this stage, demonstrating remarkable efficacy. Unlike the previous few formulas which should not be used excessively due to the presence of raw arsenic, this formula is non-toxic. To alleviate patients' suspicion that it might be poisonous, one may invite them to taste a small amount orally as proof.
Sōunóng Dìngzi (Pus-Searching Pill): First, use chasing and cauterizing pills to erode and remove necrotic tissue and foul matter. Once only pus remains, this formula is appropriate for use.
Ziran Tong (Natural Pyrite), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root, each 0.5 liang), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix, each 2.5 qian), Muxiang (Costus Root, 1.5 qian), Shexiang (Musk, a small amount).
Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Mix with glutinous rice flour to form pills for application, or use as a powder sprinkled directly on the wound; both methods are effective.
These two formulas are essential medicines for the ulcerative stage. I have used them to save countless lives. For wounds that are deep and narrow, first clean out the pus using a cotton-tipped stick. Then, mix the medicine with soft rice to form pills. The length and size should correspond exactly to the wound dimensions, ensuring the medication reaches the bottom of the wound for efficacy. Cover the exterior with a plaster. For wounds that are shallow and wide, wash with medicinal decoction, dry thoroughly, and simply sprinkle the dry powder onto the area. If the wound is dry, ignite a piece of naturally dead bamboo dipped in soybean oil, collect the dripping oil under a bowl, mix it with the aforementioned powder, and apply with a chicken feather. This will stop pus discharge and promote new tissue growth with miraculous effect.
Shexiang Qingfen San (Musk and Calomel Powder): Treats Xué gān chuāng (Blood Gan Ulcer), Yīnshí chuāng (Yin Erosion Ulcer), ěr gān chuāng (Ear Gan Ulcer), and all types of malignant ulcers.
Shexiang (Musk), Qingfen (Calomel, each 0.5 qian), Bai fan (Alum, sublimed/refined), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh, each 1 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Apply externally based on whether the wound is dry or moist.
