In the above formula, Caojueming, Shi jueming, and Muzeicao, which brighten the eyes and remove nebulae, are used as Sovereign herbs; Fangfeng, Qianghuo, Manjingzi, and Ganjuhua, which disperse wind and raise Yang, are used as Minister herbs; Gancao and Chuanxiong, which harmonize Qi and smooth blood, are used as Assistant herbs; Huangqin and Shigao, which treat and eliminate evil heat, are used as Envoy herbs. This formula is also suitable for treating diseases of internal tension and external flaccidity.
Shen Yan Jin Jiu Wan (Divine Effectiveness Spotted Dove Pill): Treats the same symptoms as above, accompanied by dry mouth, bitter taste, excessive eye discharge with grittiness, and heat pathogen in the Upper Jiao.

In the above formula, Ganjuhua and Caojueming, which primarily brighten the eyes, are used as Sovereign herbs; Ruiren, Muli, Huanglian, and Jili, which remove dampness and clear heat, are used as Minister herbs; Fangfeng, Qianghuo, and Xixin, which ascend upwards, along with Qumai and Fuling, which separate downwards, are used as Assistant herbs; Banjiu tonifies the Kidney, Yanggan tonifies the Liver, and Rougui guides the group of herbs into the heat pathogen, serving as Envoy herbs. The preparation of this formula is grand because the Kidney and Liver are distant organs; the principle of frequently administering decoctions and powders applies here.
Wan Ying Chan Hua San (Ten Thousand Responses Cicada Flower Powder): Treats the same symptoms as above.
Prescription: Chantui (Periostracum Cicadae) (cleaned of soil, 0.5 liang), She tui (Periostracum Bombycis) (roasted, 3 qian), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii), Zhi Gancao (Prepared Radix Glycyrrhizae), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Bai Fuling (Poria) (each 1 liang); Chi Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) (3 liang); Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Chinensis) (4 liang); Shi jueming (Concha Arcae) (boiled in flowing water from the east for one shichen, ground extremely fine, 1.5 liang).

Add two zhong of water, decoct to one zhong, and take hot after meals.
The above formula is designed for conditions caused by excessive heat counter-attacking. For diseases where Wind-Heat is uncontrolled and severe heat leads to hard stool, it is used temporarily as a measure, being a bitter-cold medication. Since bitter-cold drugs damage the Stomach Qi, Baizhu's sweet-warm and Gancao's sweet-neutral properties are first used to govern Stomach Qi as Sovereign herbs. Next, the acrid-warm ascending and dispersing clearing benefits of Chuanxiong, Fangfeng, Jingjie, Jiegeng, and Qianghuo are used as Minister herbs. Then, the slightly bitter properties of Shaoyao, Qianhu, and Chaihu, and the slightly bitter-cold properties of Bohe, Huangqin, and Shanzhi, which guide and attack simultaneously, are used as Assistant herbs. Finally, the bitter-cold properties of Zhimu, Huashi, and Shigao, and the greatly bitter-cold properties of Dahuang and Mangxiao are used to expel excessive heat as Envoy herbs. If the stool is not hard, reduce Dahuang and Mangxiao; this is the treatment method of attacking against the disease trend. Taking it very hot is a contrary treatment.

Except for Huashi and Qianniu which are separately ground into extremely fine powder, combine the rest into a fine powder, mix evenly with the above powders, drop water to form pills the size of tung zi (Chinese quince seeds). Take 30 pills per dose, increasing to 100 pills, taken with tea soup after meals before sleep.
In the above formula, Baizhu's bitter-sweet-warm property removes heat in the Stomach as Sovereign herb; Baizhi's acrid-warm resolving benefit, and Qianghuo's bitter-sweet-neutral slightly-warm property, unblock and benefit various joints as Minister herbs; Huangqin's slightly bitter-cold treats heat generation, and Huashi's sweet-cold lubricates urination, clarifying turbidity as Assistant herbs; Dahuang's bitter-cold unblocks the large intestine and purges various excess heats, and Qianniu's acrid-bitter-cold promotes bowel movement and removes wind toxicity as Envoy herbs, representing the method of reverse attack. For diseases where Wind-Heat is uncontrolled and severe heat leads to hard stool, it can also be used concurrently. However, Qianniu is toxic and not considered a divine herb; combining it with Dahuang here takes advantage of its fierce and rapid nature. Generally, it should not be used long-term as it damages Original Qi; it is a temporary measure. Dosage should be adjusted according to deficiency and excess.

It is advisable to use it regularly to concentrate its power. It can be used for all eye diseases.
