*Yan Yi* states: Dan Xiong Ji (Red Male Chicken), now referred to as red chickens, is named for its feather color. In the I Ching, Xun represents chicken and wind. Chickens crow at the fifth watch because the sun is approaching the Xun position, stimulating their qi to crow. The chicken body contains wind pathogenic factors, thus humans should not consume it excessively. The *Classic of Materia Medica* details its uses extensively. For postpartum blood fainting, body spasms and rigidity, eyes rolling upward, and sudden loss of consciousness, take one egg, remove shell, clarify the white, mix with two qian of Schizonepeta powder, administer, and the patient stabilizes. Subsequent treatment follows accordingly. If no other diseases exist, further medication is unnecessary. Treatment is very agile; black chicken eggs are especially effective. Neither the *Classic* nor its commentaries state that chicken induces wind. However, currently it is believed chicken contains wind, and consumption invariably triggers symptoms; since chicken corresponds to Xun, this can be verified. Those who eat chicken should exercise caution.
