[Earth Slurry]
Nature: Cold. Indications: Mainly treats irritability caused by poisoning.
Tao Hongjing stated: This is made by digging a pit in the ground, pouring water into it, stirring until turbid, and taking it after a short while to relieve various types of poisoning. There are poisonous mushrooms in the mountains; if people do not recognize them and cook and eat them, death ensues without exception. Another type of fungus from maple trees causes uncontrollable laughter upon ingestion; only drinking earth slurry can cure this, as other medicines cannot save the patient. In the current annotation of *Tang Bencao* (Compendium of Materia Medica of the Tang Dynasty), it was originally listed under the Lower Grade of the Grass category but has now been moved here.臣 Yuxi et al. respectfully note: Ri Huazi stated that Earth Slurry is non-toxic.
*Shenghui Fang*: For treating heat-induced thirst and cardiac oppression, consuming one cup of Earth Slurry is highly effective. Mei Shi's Formula: For poisoning from eating raw meat. Dig three chi deep, take three sheng of soil, add five sheng of water, boil five times, clarify, and take one sheng to achieve a cure.
[Wax Snow]
Flavor: Sweet. Nature: Cold. Non-toxic. Relieves all toxins; treats epidemic febrile diseases (Tianxing Shiqi), infantile febrile epilepsy with manic crying, adult activation of cinnabar/stone elixir toxicity, sudden heat after alcohol consumption, and jaundice. It should still be taken warm in small doses. It is excellent for preserving and pickling various fruits. Spring snow contains insects, and the water spoils easily, so it is not stored. (Newly supplemented content found in Chen Cangqi and Ri Huazi.)
*Bielu* states: Respectfully noted that frost treats juice-soaked skin conditions during summer months, such as red swelling in the armpits and prickly heat; when mixed with clam powder and applied, it heals immediately. It can be swept from tiles or wood using chicken feathers and stored in porcelain jars, remaining unspoiled for a long time. It is now appropriate to append this after Wax Snow.
*Yanyi*: The information regarding Wax Snow is detailed under the entry for "Half-Day River Water" (Bantianhe).
[Spring Water]
Flavor: Sweet. Nature: Neutral. Non-toxic. Indications: Treats Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting syndrome), Fan Wei (Regurgitation), Re Li (Heat Dysentery), Re Lin (Heat Strangury), and dark, scanty urination. Also used externally to wash Qi Chuang (Lac Dermatitis) and She Yong Zhong (abscesses caused by toxic insects). It helps dissipate pathogens; long-term consumption dispels warmth, harmonizes the middle jiao, descends rising heat, promotes diuresis, and is recommended to be drunk in large quantities. Additionally, newly drawn water: According to *Baiyi Fang*, for patients suffering from cold disorders of the heart and abdomen: if the patient is male, have a female give him a cup to drink; if female, have a male give her a cup. It also antidotes the toxicity of He Kou Jiao (closed-mouth pepper). Furthermore, for food impaction where fish or meat bones are stuck: take a cup of water, close your mouth facing the water, open your mouth to inhale the vapor, and the obstruction will naturally descend. Also, for sudden trauma causing prolapsed intestines due to falling: spray the body with cold water to induce rigidity (Jin), allowing the intestines to retract naturally. Also, on the night of La Day (the 12th lunar month), have someone hold pepper beside the well without speaking to others, drop the pepper into the well, and drink this water to remove internal warming qi. *Bowuzhi* also states: Regarding all waters used to treat illness, one should always use newly drawn clear spring water, avoiding stagnant, turbid, or warm water; not only is it ineffective, but it also harms the person. (Newly supplemented)
Shen Cunzhong's *Bitan*: Dong'e is traversed by the Ji River. Taking its well water to boil gelatin produces Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin). When used to stir turbid water, it clarifies it; when ingested by humans, it resolves phlegm accumulation in the chest/diaphragm and stops vomiting effectively. The Ji River water flows downward, is clear and heavy, thus it is used to treat turbid stagnation and rebellious upward-flowing pathologies.
