令皴坼，即劈破用。天雄身全矮，无尖，周匝四面有附，孕十一个，皮苍色即是天雄。宜炮
皴拆后，去皮尖底用。不然，阴制用并得。侧子只是附子旁，有小颗附子，如枣核者是，宜
生用。治风疹神妙。木鳖子，只是诸喙、附、雄、乌、侧中毗 者，号曰木鳖子，不入药中
用。若服，令人丧目。若附子底平有九角，如铁色，一个个重一两，即是气全，堪用。夫修
事十两，于文武火中炮令皴坼者去之，用刀刮上孕子，并去底尖，微细劈破，于屋下午地上
掘一坑，可深一尺，安于中一宿。至明取出，焙干用。夫欲炮者，灰火勿用杂木火，只用柳
木最妙。若阴制使，即生去尖皮底了，薄切，用东流水并黑豆浸五日夜，然后漉出，于日中

以
附子一个，生去皮脐，用绿豆一合，同入铫子内，煮豆熟为度。去附子服豆，即立瘥。每个

主治鱼刺卡喉，用网覆盖在喉咙处即可痊愈。如果煮成汁液饮用，骨头就会立刻落下。
无毒。主治时行病（流行性疾病）后的劳复（因劳累导致的病情复发），以及马骏风引起的黑汗。将药煮成汁液饮用，带有泥土污垢的药材效果更佳。
芦令夫妇和谐共处。使用它有特定的方法。这是生长在江河中的波芦。
味苦，无毒。去除虮子和虱子。提取汁液洗头，虱子全部死亡。有人误吞虱子导致生病的，捣碎绞取汁液，服用一小合（容量单位），也能主治各种虫疮。生长在山脚湿地。茎叶像山丹，颜色微红，高一、二尺。又有水竹叶，形状像竹叶但短小。生长在水中，也说能去虱，人们取水竹叶生吃。
主治妇人难产，含在口中，胎儿立即产出。也可以咽下其汁液。叶子像卷柏但较大。生长在羯国。它的叶子，煮起来不烫手，无毒。
味甘，平，无毒。主治金创（金属利器造成的创伤），止血生肉，解除丹石发热。刚长出来时细软，像兔肝。又名鸡肝，与蘩蒌同名。
味甘，平，无毒。主治人和牲畜被老虎、野狼等咬伤，担心毒气进入肌肉的情况。取茎混合葛根，浓煮后服用，也可以取汁液服用。生长在高山，像芒草，节短。江西人称之为折草。六月、七月生出穗子像荻草一样。
味辛，平，无毒。主治蚕及其他虫类，如蚕类咬伤人，担心毒气进入腹部，煮汁服用。生捣敷于疮口。生长在湿地，像蓼草大，茎红色花白色，东方土地也有生长。
味苦，平，无毒。主治结气瘤痛上气，气急。煮服。生长在伊水、洛水之间的洲渚，苗像木贼。节节相接，也名叫接续草。

附子
味辛、甘，温、大热，有大毒。主治风寒咳嗽气逆，邪气，温中，金创，破除症坚积聚血瘕，寒湿痹痛，膝盖挛缩疼痛，脚疼冷弱，不能行走，腰脊风寒，心腹冷痛，霍乱转筋，下利赤白，坚固肌骨，强壮阴气。又能堕胎，被称为“百药长”。生长在犍为山谷及广汉。冬季采挖称为附子，春季采挖称为乌头。（地胆作为使药，畏恶蜈蚣，畏惧防风、黑豆、甘草、黄芩、人参、乌韭。）
陶隐居说：附子，在八月上旬采挖，八角形的品质好。凡是使用，三建（天雄、侧子、附子）都用热灰微微炮制使其裂开，不要过焦，只有姜附汤中生用。俗方每用附子，都必须配伍甘草、人参、生姜，正是为了制约它的毒性。现在考察陈藏器《本草》说：附子醋浸，削得像小指头大小，放入耳中，治疗耳聋。去皮炮制裂开后，涂上蜂蜜炙烤，让蜂蜜渗入内部，含在口中，不要咽下汁液，主治喉痹。
《图经本草》在侧子条目下有详细记载。

Mainly treats fishbone impaction; covering the neck with a net cures it. If boiled into juice and drunk, the bone will fall down immediately.
Non-toxic. Mainly treats relapse after epidemic diseases (Tianxing Laofu) and black sweat caused by Ma Jun Feng. Boil into juice and drink; those with dirt are better.
Lu Ling couple live in harmony. There is a specific method for its use. This is Bo Lu produced in rivers.
Bitter in taste, non-toxic. Removes lice and nits. Extract juice to wash hair, all die. If people get sick from accidentally swallowing lice, crush and squeeze juice, take one Xiao He (small unit of volume), also mainly treats various insect sores. Grows in wetlands at mountain foot. Stems and leaves resemble Shan Dan, slightly red, one or two chi high. There is also Shui Zhu Ye, like bamboo leaves but shorter and smaller. Grows in water, also said to remove lice, people eat Shui Zhu Ye raw.
Mainly treats difficult childbirth in women; holding it in the mouth leads to immediate delivery. Also swallow its juice. Leaves are like Juan Bai but larger. Grows in Jie Guo. Its leaves do not get hot when boiled, non-toxic.
Sweet in taste, neutral, non-toxic. Mainly treats metal wounds (Jin Chuang), stops bleeding and generates flesh, resolves Dan Shi fever. Newly grown, fine and soft, resembling rabbit liver. Another name is Ji Gan, same name as Fan Lou.
Sweet in taste, neutral, non-toxic. Mainly treats humans and livestock injured by tigers, wild wolves, etc., fearing poison entering the flesh. Take stems mixed with Gegen, boil thick and drink, or take juice. Grows in high mountains, like Mang, short nodes. People in Jiangxi call it Zhe Cao. Produces spikes like Di in June and July.
Pungent in taste, neutral, non-toxic. Mainly treats silkworms and other insects; if bitten by silkworms, fearing poison entering the abdomen, boil juice and drink. Crush raw and apply to sores. Grows in wetlands, large like Liao, red stems white flowers, also found in eastern lands.
Bitter in taste, neutral, non-toxic. Mainly treats Qi stagnation, nodules, pain, ascending Qi, rapid breathing. Boil and drink. Grows on islets between Yi River and Luo River, seedlings like Mu Zei. Nodes connect continuously, also named Jie Xu Cao.

Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata)
Pungent, sweet, warm, very hot, highly toxic. Mainly treats wind-cold cough and rebellious Qi, evil Qi, warms the middle, Jin Chuang, breaks Zheng Jian accumulations and blood masses, cold-damp Bi pain, knee spasms and pain, cold weak painful feet unable to walk, wind-cold of waist and spine, cold pain of heart and abdomen, Huoluan muscle cramps, dysentery with red and white discharge, strengthens muscles and bones, strengthens Yin. Also causes abortion, called "Chief of Hundred Medicines". Grows in valleys of Qianwei and Guanghan. Harvested in winter as Fuzi, harvested in spring as Wutou. (Didan acts as an assistant, dislikes Centipedes, fears Fangfeng, Black Beans, Gancao, Huangqin, Renshen, Wujiu.)
Tao Hongjing says: Fuzi, harvested in early August, eight-cornered ones are good. For use, San Jian (all three types) are slightly roasted in hot ashes until cracked, not too charred, only used raw in Jiang Fu Tang. Common prescriptions always pair Fuzi with Gancao, Renshen, and Shengjiang, precisely to control its toxicity. Now according to Chen Cangqi's *Bencao*: Soak Fuzi in vinegar, shave like a small finger, insert into ear to treat deafness. Peel, roast until cracked, coat with honey and roast again to let honey penetrate, hold in mouth, do not swallow juice, mainly treats Hou Bi.

Chen Cangqi says: Fuzi does not have eight corners, Tao forced the name. Ancient formulas mostly used eight-cornered Fuzi, market goods also named for eight corners. Lei Gong says: For use, must recognize carefully, do not misuse. There are Wutou, Wu Hui, Tianxiong, Cizi, Mugua Zi. Wutou rarely has stems/leaves, long body black, rarely side tips. Wu Hui skin is old/cyan, bean-sized, pregnant 8-9, surrounding bottom sunken, black like iron. Should be roasted in strong fire until wrinkled/cracked, then split and used. Tianxiong body complete and short, no tip, surrounded by attachments on four sides, pregnant 11, cyan skin is Tianxiong. Should be roasted wrinkled/cracked, peel tip and bottom used. Otherwise, yin-processing used is also acceptable. Cizi is just small attached Fuzi beside Fuzi, date-seed sized, should be used raw. Miraculous for treating wind-rash. Mugua Zi is just the connected parts among Hui, Fu, Xiong, Wu, Cizi, called Mugua Zi, not used in medicine. If taken, causes blindness. If Fuzi bottom is flat with nine corners, iron-colored, each weighing one liang, Qi is full, usable. For processing ten liang, roast in mild-strong fire until wrinkled/cracked discard, scrape off upper embryos with knife, remove bottom tip, split finely, dig a pit one chi deep in afternoon shade under roof, place inside overnight. Next morning take out, dry-roast and use. For roasting, do not use ash fire or miscellaneous wood fire, willow wood is best. For yin-processing, remove raw tip skin bottom, slice thin, soak in East-flowing water and black beans for five days and nights, then drain, sun-dry and use. For use, must yin-process peel tip, every ten liang, use five liang raw black beans, six sheng East-flowing water. *Shenghui Fang*: Treat severe Ding Chuang swelling. Use Fuzi powder, mix with vinegar and apply, reapply when dry. *Qianjin Yifang* same. *Waitai Mi Yao*: Treat hemiplegia from wind, cold Pi Zhu. Raw Fuzi one liang, unfermented wine one sheng, cut coarse, put in wine, pass seven days, drink every other day, take one Xiao He, cured. *Qianjin Yi*: Treat Great Wind, cold Phlegm Pi, distension Bi diseases. Use big Fuzi one piece weighing half liang, two pieces also okay, roast and soak in wine, Spring/Autumn five days, Summer/Autumn three days. Take one He, stop when cured. Twice daily, nothing not treated. Another formula: Treat sudden inability to open mouth. Crush Fuzi powder into tube, open mouth blow into throat, cured. *Baiyi Fang*: Treat sudden shock, corpse paralysis unable to speak, jaw locked. Raw Fuzi powder in tube, blow under tongue, immediately cured. *Jingyan Fang*: Vomiting reverse stomach. Use one big Fuzi, one jin Ginger, finely chop boil grind like paste, take with rice drink. *Jingyan Hou Fang*: Treat adults chronic mouth ulcers. Raw Fuzi powder, mix with vinegar/flour, stick sole of foot male left female right, change twice daily. Another formula: Treat heat disease, vomiting water/dysentery, cold body faint pulse, continuous restlessness. One Fuzi peel navel, divide into eight slices. Add one qian salt, one sheng water, decoct to half sheng, warm drink, immediate effect. *Doumen Fang* treat reverse stomach. Use biggest Fuzi, sit on brick, fire around gradually force crush, put into fresh Ginger juice, again force dry with fire, quench again, about half bowl ginger juice exhausted, grind sieve powder. Take one qian with millet drink, not over three doses cured. Another formula: Treat Yuan Zang cold injury and open stomach. Roasted Fuzi peel tip, grind powder, two zhan water, add two qian medicine, salt/scallion/date/ginger decoct together, take one zhan, empty stomach drink. Greatly removes accumulated cold, warms lower Yuan, fattens intestines benefits Qi, wine food no hindrance. *Jianyao Jizhong Fang*: Treat Hongzhang Jiao leg swelling fullness, long time not cured formula: Black Fuzi one liang, peel navel, raw grind powder, Ginger juice mix like paste, apply on swelling. Medicine dry re-mix apply, swelling subsided as limit. Sun Yonghe treats great diarrhea Huoluan unceasing. One Fuzi weighing seven qian, roast peel navel, grind powder. Each dose four qian, two zhan water, half qian salt, decoct take one zhan, warm drink stop immediately. Zhang Wenzhong treats sudden eye red swelling, gritty pain cannot open, tears unceasing. Shave Fuzi red skin powder, like silkworm feces, put in eye, fix as limit. Cui Shi Formula treats deafness wind, jaw tight cannot open formula: Take eight-cornered Fuzi one piece, vinegar soak three nights make moist, slightly shave one end insert into ear, moxa fourteen moxibustions, make Qi pass through ear, immediately cured. Sun Zhao Koujue says treat Yin excess blocking Yang Shanghan, person must be restless hot, not wanting to drink water is correct. Should take Pili San: One Fuzi, burn to ash retain nature, grind powder, honey water mix down one dose cured. This forces scatter cold Qi, then hot Qi ascends and sweat comes, then cured. Another formula: Treat headache. Roasted Fuzi, Shigao, equal parts grind powder. Add Nao/Mosuo little bit. Tea/Wine half qian down. *Xiuzhen Mizhi*: Treat Tou Feng most verified. One Fuzi, raw peel navel, use one he Mung Bean, together enter pot, boil bean cooked as limit. Remove Fuzi eat bean, immediately cured. Each Fuzi, can boil five doses, later grind powder take.
