Taste is sweet, nature is warm, non-toxic. It primarily treats diseases of the five Zang organs and hundred ailments; it nourishes the spirit (Shen), calms the Hun and Po souls, supplements Qi, brightens the eyes, unblocks blood vessels, stops irritability and fullness, benefits Jing and Shen, and eliminates demonic spirits and evil ghostly qi. Long-term consumption allows one to connect with divine clarity, prevents aging, lightens the body like an immortal, and makes the mind agile. Also known as Erqi Sha (Two-Qi Cinnabar). The preparation method involves: 1 liang of Mercury (Hydrargyrum), 6 zhu of Sulfur (Sulfur), finely ground; first stir-fried to form Qing Sha Tou (Green Sand Head), then placed in a Shui Huo Ji Ji Furnace (Water-Fire Mutual Completion Furnace) for sublimation/refining. When it exhibits patterns resembling bundled needles, the process is complete. It is incompatible with Magnetitum (Magnetic Hematite) and fears salty water.
Maoting Hua records: Yang Zidu ingested Housun Lingsha (Monkey Spirit Cinnabar); [the substance/spirit] would often speak human language. However, this could be taught to those interested in curiosities; many used Lingsha to feed monkeys, parrots, dogs, etc., to train them.
Qingxiazi stated: Lingsha, if it can withstand fire like grass, melts into liquid without breaking, can treat wind-cold conditions. Used as Mother Sha, the Child Kui transforms into Silver; if the Five Metals are broken but fail to melt, they are unsuitable.
Taste is pungent, nature is cold, non-toxic. It fears Magnetitum and Shihuang (Realgar/Orpiment mixture?). It unblocks the Large Intestine, resolves pediatric Gan accumulation (malnutrition syndrome) and Luoli (scrofula), kills parasites causing sores, scabies, tinea, nasal rosacea (Jiu Zao Bi), and wind-sores with itching. Also known as Gengfen (Mercury Powder), Qingfen (Light Powder), Qiaofen. Avoid all blood products. (New supplement seen in Chen Cangqi and Ri Huazi's works.) Tujing Bencao has detailed entries under "Shuiyin" (Mercury).
Empirical Prescription: Treats pediatric geophagia (eating dirt) causing abdominal distension. Take 1 fen of Nifen (Calomel/Mercurous Chloride), knead and mix with rock sugar to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take one pill on an empty stomach with rice decoction; after some time, the dirt will be discharged, and the illness will heal.
Sun Yonghe stated: Treats deficiency-wind. Bu'er San (Unparalleled Powder): Take 1 liang of Nifen, boil in water five times until reduced like tea dregs, dry over slow fire, add 0.5 liang of Moschus (Musk), grind finely into powder. Each dose is 1 zi amount, mixed with warm water. For any wind condition, take 0.5 qian or 1 qian bi temporarily, adjusting based on deficiency or excess. Another prescription: Treats bloody dysentery. Take 5 qian of Nifen, 3 qian of Dingfen (Lead Carbonate), grind together uniformly, mix with a small amount of steamed dough center soaked in water to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 7 or 10 pills each time. Boil one sprig of Artemisia argyi (Ai Ye) in one cup of water to make a decoction to swallow the pills; using Ai Ye decoction is also excellent.
Yanyi states: Shuiyin Fen (Mercury Powder) is a phlegm-draining medicine, commonly used for pediatric salivary overflow (Xian Chao) and convulsions (Yong Zhong). However, it must not be taken regularly or in excessive amounts; excessive use causes its damaging effects to manifest simultaneously. If accompanied by fright (Jing), extreme caution is required. Fright arises from insufficiency of Heart Qi; purgatives should not be used, as purging leads to interior deficiency, allowing fright qi to enter the Heart, becoming incurable. If the person is inherently deficient, this substance must be strictly prohibited; utmost caution is essential.
