The nine types of parasites are: the first is called Fuchong (Hidden Worm), measuring four fen in length; the second is called Huichong (Roundworm), measuring one chi in length; the third is called Baichong (White Worm), measuring one cun in length; the fourth is called Roucheong (Flesh Worm), resembling a rotten apricot; the fifth is called Feichong (Lung Worm), resembling a silkworm; the sixth is called Weichong (Stomach Worm), resembling a toad; the seventh is called Ruochong (Weak Worm), resembling a melon seed; the eighth is called Chichong (Red Worm), resembling raw meat; and the ninth is called Nuochong (Pinworm), extremely minute, resembling a vegetable worm.
Fuchong (Hidden Worm) is the master of all worms. If Huichong (Roundworm) penetrates the heart, it causes death. Baichong (White Worm) reproduces, with offspring multiplying, causing the mother worm to grow larger, reaching four or five chi in length, which can also cause death. Roucheong (Flesh Worm) causes vexation and fullness. Feichong (Lung Worm) causes coughing. Weichong (Stomach Worm) causes vomiting and a tendency for stomach qi to rebel, resulting in hiccups. Ruochong (Weak Worm), also known as Gechong (Diaphragm Worm), causes excessive salivation. Chichong (Red Worm) causes borborygmus (intestinal rumbling). Nuochong (Pinworm) resides in the tongchang (rectum); when numerous, they cause hemorrhoids; at their extreme, they cause leprosy-like conditions; adhering to ulcerated areas, they generate various sores, carbuncles, tinea, boils, scrofula, scabies, and dental caries worms, doing everything possible.
Humans do not necessarily have all these worms, nor does having them imply abundance; some may have an excess of certain types while lacking others. These various worms reside between the intestines and stomach. If the qi of the fu and zang organs is substantial, they do no harm; if deficient, they can erode the body, transforming into various ailments according to the movement of the worms.
The three types of worms refer to Changchong (Long Worm), Chichong (Red Worm), and Nuochong (Pinworm). The term "three worms" still falls within the count of the nine worms. Changchong is Huichong (Roundworm), measuring one chi in length; when active, it causes the expulsion of clear fluid, and upon exiting, causes heart pain; if it penetrates the heart, it causes death. Chichong (Red Worm) resembles raw meat; when active, it causes borborygmus. Nuochong (Pinworm) is extremely minute, resembling a vegetable worm, residing between the tongchang (rectum); when numerous, they cause hemorrhoids; at their extreme, they cause leprosy-like conditions; adhering to ulcerated areas, they generate various sores, carbuncles, tinea, boils, scrofula, scabies, and dental caries worms, doing everything possible.
Since these three are part of the nine worms, but are now given separate names, it is because these three types tend to act independently to cause disease, hence they are called the "Three Worms." Decoctions, moxibustion/heat therapy, acupuncture, and stone therapy for treating them have separate specific formulas. Nourishing and guiding exercises are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) · *Daoyin Fa* (Guiding and Pulling Methods) states: Cross both hands behind the head, draw qi deeply, and then exhale. Sit on the ground, slowly extend both legs, embrace the middle of the knees with both hands from the outside, bend the head down quickly until it enters between the two knees, cross hands above the head, repeat twelve times, and this will cure the Three Corpses (Sanshi).
It further states: Clench teeth fourteen times, then swallow qi fourteen times; repeat this process three hundred times before stopping. Practicing this for twenty days eliminates all pathogenic qi; after sixty days, minor illnesses are cured; after one hundred days, major illnesses are removed, and the Three Corpses (Sanshi) lurking in the corpse are eliminated, leaving the face and body lustrous.
